Well the season is officially underway after last nites preseason game vs the Brett Favre less NY Jets, losing 24-20. I think as is with most preseason games the score is not indicative of how the game went. The Browns first team O marched the ball down the field and finished with a awesome Braylon Edwards TD catch, a one handed twister in the corner of the endzone. The first team defense also looked great, stopping the Jets on a 4th and 1 before a huge storm sent everyone packing. When the teams came back out, Brady Quinn did a nice job moving the team down the field and Travis Wilson looked like he might be finally ready to contribute at WR. I really liked what I saw from new TE Martin Rucker who is big fast and has great hands. He will complement Winslow nicely. The Browns seem to have a lot better depth this year. On the bad side, our backups gave up several big plays, Ken Dorsey threw a couple of late interceptions when he was driving the team to score and we are in trouble if any of our cornerbacks get hurt. That all aside though, I am once again excited for the start of the season and who knows, this might be the year.

I also noticed a different #75 on the field that was not former OSU Buckeye Simon Frazior. Must be playing with the Destroyers now.

The Browns have pretty much traded and signed and released their way into telling their fans that this is their best chance (and probably for a while!). I have to say that if the Browns don't do much this year, they've set themselves back some with all the trades and contracts that they aren't going to want to keep around if the team isn't winning.

Now Now Slice...play nice...I have said on here and in other forums, that I think the Browns are still a year away from being a team to control their own destiny. People have to remember, last years record was against a pretty weak schedule. This years schedule is a totally different animal. If the Browns go thruogh this seasons schedule 10-6, I will be very Happy and impressed. Not saying they can't can't just being a realist.
With all that being said, I was content with the 1st team O last night. The line looks like it will be able to blow a lot of D lines off the ball this year. Thomas and Fraley are going to be beasts this year. 1st team D was a little suspect but not too bad. Still gave up the big play.....something the Browns said (and all the Browns fan agree) they had to correct from last year if thewy want tobe considered a top teir team.

Go Browns....Cowboys are coming up...

gumshoe, i think simon was traded to the falcons in the spring and also i don't think eathen kelly is with the team anymore. i've met both of them and both are very nice guys (simon made wings for me) and underrated. i was disapointed when i heard they left the team, i kinda figured they where on the way out when rogers and williams came to the team. also for the cornerback positions i've heard if what they have now doesn't hold they are waiting for other teams to make cuts and see if they can sign someone like ashton youbouty from the bills or holdout and see if free agent ty law will lower his asking price.

I have to say, I get the distinct feeling all of this hype surrounding the Browns is just setting everyone up for a huge disappointment. I hope I'm wrong, but I've got a funny feeling ...

Well it wouldn't be right if I didn't come on here and post after last nights showing. The Browns lost to the NY Giants 37-34 but don't be deceived by the score. It was an ugly beatdown by the Giants and Romeo should be concerned . He probably was in a NewYork deli all day instead of teaching a little team discipline. The Browns had almost 100 yards in penalties....in the first quarter, a fumble at the goal line...the kind that always bring back depressing memories....and our alleged #1 QB knocked out with a concussion. The good news is that when we play them again during the regular season, we didn't show them anything cause we couldn't/didn't do anything. Plus playing at home, their over confidence and who knows maybe it will be different. Brady Quinn looked good once again both literally and figuratively, my daughter making the first observation and me with the latter. I am sure it will be yet another gut wrenching, up and down season that we Browns fans are used to......agony and ecstacy.....and more agony!

i hate when everyones always saying quinn played great, quinn did this. i would hope he played great going against the other teams backups, he's a 1st round pick and the FUTURE starter for the team. lets see if they hold out anderson for a game and then maybe see a little of what brady can do, remember it's still the preseason though.

Are you serious Cleveland Clowns actually have fans? That would be like Cinncinata Bungles thinking they have a football team too.

Some of us are born into this and its not our fault, so don't compare us to the Bungals. Okay another preseason loss this time to the lowly Lions. Brady Quinn didn't look very good and the injuries are mounting. One thing that still appears to be consistant from last year is our own Fat Albert, standing on the sidelines wondering what a philly beef steak would taste like instead of wondering if he can find any DB's who can play. 8-8 if there is a god, 6-10 more likely!

And yet I still see folks on the Huddle saying how the Browns will be an 11+ win team, win the AFC North, and in the playoffs. Obviously no realists over there when it comes to looking at their own team objectively.

Well the Browns finish the 2008 preseason 0-4 and with half the team banged up. With the injuries and the schedule this year, I look for the Browns to be around 8-8 on the season. While the teams played backups last nite, QB Brady Quinn again played decent, leading the Browns to a 10-0 lead but also missing an open receiver in the endzone for an easy TD, on a drive that later led to a FG.

While the regulars have not played much, the defense doesn't look any better from last year and the secondary is led by two second year players. Our good special teamers are all hurt save for Phil Dawson who had a great preseason.

I guess the good news is that the last four Super Bowl Champions have had a combined 6-10 record in the last four preseasons with three of the four finishing at 1-3. Not that the Browns are close to Super Bowl material, see Cowboys Week 1, the team has only one way to go and that is up......I think!

Hey now, some of us Bengals fans were born into it as well. I know how you guys feel. Here's hoping to a good race for the division crown between the Browns and Bengals!
