Hey Outspoken...guess what! PH has no control over the radio announcer and to put Dave Kleck down is just not right. He is the best sports announcer out there...at least you can understand him! The "typical PH arrogance" comment is a little overboard. Everyone hates a winner and yes PH has been very successful lately in most of its sports, and yes the people and the athletes are darn proud! Who wouldn't be? Its even understandable when other schools' fans get a little, uh, shall we say...jealous? That's a very human reaction. However, most people don't usually show their jealousy in such a public manner. But, this is a somewhat anonymous forum, so I suppose its a little easier to make the comments. As far as Monk's comments in the paper...maybe he was just trying to show his team that he had confidence in them. They all read the papers too. Thhis was a very unusual position for them to be in. I doubt that it was a personal slam against anyone. He has done an outstanding job with the softball program.
By the way, before you ask, yes, I am surprised that PH played the baseball regional at home. No one knows why the OHSAA didn't change it. I don't think anyone in PH country would have minded traveling to a neutral site. I'm sure it will get reviewed in Columbus. But the fact of the matter is, its over and done with. And in my "typical PH arrogance" I would predict that the outcome would be the same.
Good Luck at state PATRIOTS!

Typical PH arrogance......it's just come to be expected.......their players.....their fans.....even their radio announcers. I think the biggest ilustration of it this week by far was their girl's softball coach though. He was quoted in the Defiance Crescent this week before their game with Antwerp that they had faced as good or much better pitching than Bryn Schlatter, and that there was no way it was going to be a 1-0 or 2-1 game with the mighty Patriot hitting. Well guess what? He was right...........Antwerp kicked their ass 11-0.......run ruled in 5 innings!!!!! Blatent disrespect for an opponent..........and a two time all state pitcher. Antwerp didn't really need the added incentive that Monk threw their way. You would think that someone that has been around sports as long as he has would know better than that!!! I was embarrassed for him. As for PH baseball..........I haven't seen their field, but I've heard it's gorgeous. I'm sure they have worked very very hard on it and I think they definitely deserve to host a Regional........just not the one they are participating in......that is just not right in my opinion.
I heard what Monk said and it surprises me. And boy was that game ugly. I'm sure he will think more about the words he uses next time, and with PH's 3 Freshman pitchers, they will be there again.
As far as arrogance, like Charlie Brown said, everyone hates a winner. When you are on top, everything is percieved as arrogance. People from outside the MAC percieve their confidence as arrogance and I'm sure those inside the MAC see it as supporting their teams and just confidence, and it will be that way until someone stops their domination.
PH has every right to be high on athletics. Football, Volleyball, Both Basketball, Baseball, and Softball have all won league titles and/or advanced very far in the tournies...So I for one am damn proud to be a PH graduate and will let anyone know that.

That was quite a quote by Monk. What is the coach Monk's real name?

Hey Oberhaus, Check out the Blanchard Valley Buzz, fans upset with PH's kids. I thought LB was the only school disliked but again PH wins too muchtoo. I believe last I checked PH was rated number 1 in state. VB was not going to beat PH, no matter if the game was on VB's field.
yeah thats probably the case but there is no need to give teams home field in the tourney during regionals....

Monk is Mike Meyer...longtime assistant Boys Basketball coach to Dave Krauss and now Kent Seeman...not sure how long he has coached the softball team

All this discussion about PH playing at home is a bunch of BS. They are some of the best hosts you could have. There is no favoritism with the music, announcements, or playing facility. PH asked the OHSAA about the situation in April - it was not the decision of PH to play there. It was already decided. Get over it!
Why people choose to pick on things like this instead of give these HS students credit for working hard and obtaining the level of success they've achieved is beyond me!

I thought maybe the OHSAA would have switched the D3 Elida regional to PH and move the D4 Ph regional to Elida.
Who knows what the OHSAA was thinking, it's the same group of people that decided to play the regional tournament at 2:00 on a Thursday & Friday afternoon!
Good luck to PH this weekend, would be kind of neat to see Coldwater & PH both win state titles, in which usually the two teams battle each other every year in the district tournament.

Thanks Obie, after thinking about the nic "Monk" I thought I had it figured out; you only confirmed what I thought. I have met Coach Monk & am not surprised by his comments about the Antwerp pitcher.
