With everyone but Vernon Gholstin coming back, does Ohio State make it to another National Title game?

If they beat USC, there is no one else in the way. Big 10 is a cake walk and won't be tested thereafter.

Even if they lose to USC, there's always the chance they don't lose the rest of the season and end up with only one loss. Then they will probably be the team with one loss that lost the greatest amount of time ago, which usually helps a team up in the polls. Basically the "it pays to lose early in the season" scenario.

What about Michigan? I agree its better to lose early but you never count out Michigan, even though the BUCKS have beat them the past so many years. I am a BUCKEYE fan, and BUCKEYE fans will agree with me Michigan and the BIG TEN is no cake walk!

The Big 10 will be a cakewalk.
Michigan will be good but I can't see them coming into C-Bus and winning next year. They are just losing way too many playmakers.
Illinois lost Mendenhall and had he come back it would have been an OSU/Illinois battle for the B10. Now I see it as a one horse race that wins by 8 furlongs.

Ohio St has to beat USC or stay very close at the least. If they get blasted by 14+ as I suspect they will, even if they run the table the rest of the way out, the voters won't be putting them in again.

No offense to Michigan but I see them rebuilding next year as they have lost their #1 running back, #1 QB ( and their top recruit at QB in Mallet's transfer), and their top receivers. Hard to make up this much loss of talent.

Kinda agree with you Victorian....if there would be 3 unbeaten teams next year at end of season..and OSU is one of them..There is no way the pollsters put the Bucks back in the championship game. Disclaimer: Not saying OSU will go undeafeted.Using as an example..

I might give Michigan an INCH of a chance if they get that pryor kid. He goes elsewhere.. and you're looking at the spread, with no one at the helm.

If Ohio State runs the table again next year, I think they would have earned the right to play for the National Title, especially with wins over USC and Michigan!

I am a huge Buckeye fan, but will you guys relax a little, How about the trip to Wisconsin to take on the Badgers? PJ Hill will play this time, they return 9on offense and9 on defense..... Just maintain boys.........The Big 10 cupcake schedule will have some bumps.

I still think the title game will hinge on the USC game.

My main concern is that our defense. The defense has trouble stopping teams that pound the ball and teams that spread you out and make you play 1 on 1. Any team that does not spread you out or does not pound the ball, we are able to stop. I would very much like to see a new DC (Cam Staley). Ohio State's defense needs to switch it up and play multiple schemes against these teams when what is being done is not working.

Along the lines of the defense, it is glaringly apparent that we need better DB's and LB's and DT's. (Our DE's have been good!) Once we get LB's that can run and DT's that have weight in their shoes and DB's that can cover, our defense will improve or we can get a DC to improve what we already have! Then we can run our zone blitz package all the time like the current DC likes and play that "wonder" zone behind it. (Because as a fan you "wonder" where the DB's are and wonder why they are not even on the screen when guys catch the ball.) I can not say what they do in person as I have not been to a game since 2003.

osu fan...to say that OSU needs better Linebackers is ridiculous. Over the past few years the buckeyes have produced some of the best LB's to come out of college (see Hawk, Schlagel, Carpenter, Laurenaitis (sp?)) along with some other good ones (Grant wasn't bad, and with Homan coming up who knows)). All I'm saying is that you can't say our Linebackers haven't been good.

Defensive Backs have been down though, I will agree there. It's hard to expect a lot out of them when you have guys like Ashton Youboty leaving their Junior years though.
I wanted to have a career in sports when I was young, but I had to give it up. I'm only six feet tall, so I couldn't play basketball. I'm only 190 pounds, so I couldn't play football. And I have 20-20 vision, so I couldn't be a referee. ~Jay Leno

If Ohio State can survive the USC game then they should be poised for another shot at the Big Game....

Holy loser's mentality Batman! Who in their right mind would rather play in a lesser bowl than make an appearence in the national championship game???

I'm a Buckeye fan and I can't wait to see my team get another shot at the national title. Yeah, I'm disappointed at the results of the last 2 national championship games, but I would never trade away a chance at redemption for the idea of "playing it safe" in the Capital One or Outback Bowl.

Yeah...I would definitely prefer to get beat in the National Championship game than go to the Utz Pretzel Bowl or whatever and just hope someone gives a crap about it on December 27th.

And besides, wasn't it Michigan that was supposed to be going for it last season from the Big Ten??
