I really dislike the way they have tournaments set up for cross country. Like I would say I hate it and it doesn't show how good runners are or what they can be.
Here's my proposed theory.
They have the team races for DI DII and DIII boys and girls. Then you have individual races for boys and girls. Not individual races for divisions but just for sexes. I think that if you come in like second for DII but there was 3 people that beat you in DI and 2 more that beat you in DIII you shouldn't have the right to say you were second in state but in actuality you were 7 (i think my math is right, idk i'm from putnam county). When you run individual the enrollment of boys or girls in your high school doesn't mean a thing. Who cares if you've got 200 or if you've only got 70. When you run individually you run for yourself no one else. You don't run for points or your team you run for yourself and a place so what does school size matter?
feedback on theory (kinda like playoffs for BCS....ok not really but you get the point)
(oh and im serious about feedback if i see 30 views and only 4 posts im trackin people down!)

My proposed tournament style

I never check this forum...Apparently that goes for most people, too...But here's my take on things:
I don't know exactly how it works now. I say you would have to run a large jumble of all guys at once and then all girls at once, separate the teams by division as they cross the line and then do a breakdown of those teams by division. Then, I do believe it would make more sense to be the "best in the state overall" in an individual sport like cross-country, but then you'd have to think about doing that for wrestling, too...and track...and tennis...and whatever else. It would get quite challenged by the logistics of pulling some of that off.
It sounds fine by me. I have always kind of thought the same thing. But when you look at some of the logistics of pulling it off in some of these sports, it gets a lil' rough.
That, and you have to coddle everyone's self-esteem nowadays, so we should probably break it down to even MORE divisions so that there can be MORE state champions in cross country!

"Well, I may be a scholar, but I most certainly am not a gentleman."

dont follow cross country at al, didnt even know they have a playoff format, but from what I am seeing, they divide each individual division up at state and you want them all to race together...to me your way would seperate each division and see who is really the best...it makes since

Turn it into a marathon. Would that be fair?
