Bluffton University's Baseball team was involved in a tragic accident this morning. 6 People are dead including the the bus driver and his wife and 4 students. 3 others were in critical condition.

The accident took place in metro Atlanta when the bus unkowingly exited the freeway and drove off of the overpass back onto the freeway. Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the accident. The bus was chartered from Executive Coach in Ottawa. Many players on the team were from area high schools.

My condolences and deepest sympathy goes out to all involved and their families. My thoughts and prayers also are going out.

It is such a shame that things like this happen at unforseen times. Those young people will deal with this for everyday they live. Best of luck young men. My heart will be thinking of you every day.

over the summer i had the opportunity to play with tyler williams.....what an honor....here are some of my thoughts and memories that i thought i would share with everyone about tyler...

-first off tyler williams was the fastest player that i have ever played with or against.....very rarely was he ever thrown out trying to steal 2nd....very rarely was he ever thrown out from 2nd to home on a basehit to the outfield...and most of the time on a basehit to the outfield he never even looked at the 3rd base coach because HE knew he could make it

-i remember playing in a tournament in troy.....were up 7-6 in the bottom of the 9th vs. grove city.....2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd....tyler is out in center field that night.....the grove city hitter drills a ball into deep center field....tyler takes off flying as usual....superman dives in the fence and makes the game winnest and saving catch....and saving our tournament chances (we would later finish 2nd)

-i remember also in the district tournment in the 11th innings agianst van wert (loser goes home).....runner on 3rd two outs.....tyler gets called on to pitch hit....he simply looked at our coach with his usual joking tone and says "one pitch and were done"....unbelievely one pitch and he shoots one right back up the middle for the game winner....both of these memories i will remember the rest of my life

-on more of a joking mode tyler was always the one to could up with the weirdest things during games......whether it was rubbing the bill of your hit when the count was 2-2 w/2 outs.....or whether he just yelled something it usually made everyone in the dugout laugh....and even sometimes the oppositing dugout

-my final summer memory of tyler was during an overnight tournament in lancaster....adam weitholter (bluffton) was scheduled to throw the next day so very wisely he stayed in his room all night and slept....well eventually tyler figured out "weity" was in there and decided to prank him....so he runs across the street to a 7/11 and buys a pack of water balloons.....fills them up with a couple other guys and heads for adam's room....they proceeded to bombard his room and drill him with 6 or 7 water balloons....tyler threw his last water balloon and took off down the hallway.....and not looking runs right into our coaches arms...(WHOOPS)....like wise our night of fun was over for the night....

those are just a few of the many things i will remember tyler williams for....**R.I.P. Tyler Williams Lima American Legion #2**....my thoughts and prayers go out to the other victims....including scotty harmon from elida whom i knew as well...what a tragic day in NW Ohio crybaby.gif

An absolute tragedy! One of my best friends, Matt Rau (assistant coach at Ft. Jennings), was a volunteer assistant coach at Bluffton this past fall during their "fall" season. He is taking this hard, as well as all others from the area. I talked with him the other day; he was telling me, "Everyone just needs to know how good a group of student athletes these young men are, Bluffton is a small school that high quality individuals go to, they go for the quality of academics, as well as the Christian atmosphere. So, Ohio lost some of its quality".

Tonight there was a one hour program about this accident on CNN. It`s running again tomorrow (Sunday) sometime. If you can catch the segment I highly recommend it. Very informitive and had some interviews with some family members. I know one of the bus driver`s brothers and the brother of his wife as well. Good honest people that my heart goes out too.
