Holtsberry takes the helm for UNOH men’s golf; Williams joins Lima Senior
BY LARRY GRAHAM - Jan. 26, 2007

Matt Holtsberry won’t sugarcoat the situation.

“I don’t have a tremendous amount of coaching experience, but I’ve taught golf and helped the Lima junior programs over the years,” Holtsberry said. “I don’t know if we’re going to set the world on fire right out of the gate, but we have an opportunity.”

It’s an opportunity for both Holtsberry and the University of Northwestern Ohio after Holtsberry was named the men’s golf coach. He becomes a part of the rejuvenation of an athletics program that’s remained dormant for more than 20 years.

“The more I looked at it, the more interested I became,” Holtsberry said of the vacancy. “I think it’s a great opportunity for the university and the Lima area.”

Holtsberry has a solid resume. Originally from the Lima area, he was a Division I golfer at New Mexico State University. He’s also a member of the PGA and is integral in the management of Lost Creek Country Club.

“It was just his own personal ability to juggle his job with the coaching responsibilities,” UNOH athletic director Chris Adams said. “We feel strongly he’ll be able to do that. That’s why he’s such an asset for us.”

In addition to Holtsberry, the UNOH inaugural coaching staff includes Adams as the men’s basketball coach, Rick Bowersock (women’s basketball), Terry Hilborn (men and women’s tennis) and Dan Reinicke. Hilborn and Reinicke were the most recent hires, named in Dec., and the men’s and women’s basketball teams announced their first signings on Jan. 10.

“He ends up being our final hire as far as head coaching jobs go at UNOH,” Adams said of Holtsberry. “Bringing him on board solidifies our staff and allows us to head in the proper direction.”

Williams tabbed as new softball coach at Lima Senior

Mike Williams was named the new softball coach/program coordinator for Lima Senior on Thursday. A 1989 graduate of Kenton Senior High, Williams was an assistant football coach for Kenton from 1994-2000. He’s also served as a volunteer assistant for Kenton’s girls summer softball league.
