miller city - just okay.. nothing special

CG - probably the best by a longshot.. deep fence but smooth infeild.. good grass and dirt.. awesome dug outs

continental - has come a long way. getting better still.. just a mediocore field.. better than miller city.. but miller city atmopshere is better because of the general set-up.. c-town is too close to the road and just too much going on

ottoville - just okay

OG - actually terrible for being a bigger school

I wouldn't call CG's dugouts awesome. Their just regular dugouts really with about a 1 foot high bench. They do have a quality field though and one of the better in the county.

MC's field is right by a road too, it's just that not too many people go down it because no one lives there. It's also right by railroad tracks which can get annoying pretty quick. I think the atmosphere is better at MC because they win and compete, not because of a road.

Ottoville's isn't just okay, I think it just bad. It's a stone infield with no fence and a ditch in right field. They got dugouts now, which is no reason to think the field is better...there dugouts, every team should have them.

Ottawa has had D2 Districts at their field, I don't think it is a terrible field for being a bigger school when you hold bigger school tournament games, and their dugouts are a lot better than any other school in the county.

[In putnam county I just dont see how it would get any better than CG.. they hold d-2 districts there as well and have a pretty sweet set up

Ottawa's field isnt that good... and either are their dugouts.. their legion's field is much better than the high school diamond ( from playing legion on both of them).. relatively choppy infield and too much loose dirt on the base paths

I'll agree with you on the Miller City arguement but I've never really played them when they were "competing"

I know this isnt in Putnam County, but was around Columbus last week checking out some ball diamonds and found Dublin Scioto and Worthington Kilbourne is which field I think it was to be really sweet......perfect for baseball...dont think that many fields this area match to the quality they seemed....

but no out field fence, just like Pandora.

What about the playground fence in right and football fence which is like + 400 ft out there, im just messin but Kreinbrink of years back that went to Northwestern hit it over the football fence in center. PG field's could be nice if work was put into it, and looks decent for the season but the outfield is terrible as the football team practices in it during the fall and lets just say a liner up for middle into the outfield will jump all over the place and even over ur head if not ready. Id have to go with Groves field, real nice setup there and kept nice from my visits

I think Grove has the best field right now. And hopefully P-G does things right and puts in a really good field.

MC/Continental/CG all have very nice fields. grass infield, well kept ground. all miller city needs is bigger dugouts. pandora needs a little work on the grass infield and a fence. fort jennings and kalida have dirt infields but both are kept up fairly decent. ottoville has that stone for a diamond. i dont know why they still keep that stone. it does help with water conditions but no one plays on stone anymore.

Well, here's my take on some of the fields throughout the county. I realize that some of these fields have undergone some changes since I last played on them.

Ottoville-waste of time to comment.

FJ-I think their field is ok. Dirt on infield could be softened up a bit. I do like the changes they have made. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to really gripe about.

Kalida-Personally, I like Kalida's field. I really like the changes they have made to their field with the dugouts and everything. Nice place to play a ballgame.

Grove-Grass infield and red clay. You don't get too much better in PC than what they have there.

Pandora-Room for improvements.

Continental-Apparently they have dome some major changes so comment not available there.

Leipsic-personally never liked playing at Leipsic. Maybe it was a comfort thing. Didn't like the field, the outfield. I don't know.

Miller City-I may be one of the few that actually likes MC's field. I believe it is a grass infield now. I always did like their dugouts. Outfield could probably be in a little better condition, but I like MC.

OG-I have not played a game on OG new field. It looks good, but that's all I can say for it. Their old field (the now Legion field) was one of my favorites to play in. Probably because I got to play under the lights a lot and that made the atmosphere at the game so much better. Those dugouts could have been better, but the room you had as a defense (catcher, 1st, 3rd, RF, LF) and well has having a large outfield for offense I thought made things so much better.

Here is my order (personal bias is included)
1. Columbus Grove
2. OG (old field)
3. Miller City
4. Kalida
5. FJ
6. Leipsic
7. Pandora
N/A. OG (new field)
N/A. Continental
Ahead of Ottoville. Dupont's little field
LAST. Ottoville

I'm pretty sure the grass was planted last fall and the diamond will be done sometime this summer with the guy from Grove doing it. ( Jim Neu ). He is inviting area coaches for a ball diamond clinic there when he does it.
