Well, I was training really hard for junior nationals, and then, carpal tunnel. I never quite did return to full strength after that, and I've given up on the game after losing to a girl. bag.gif

The only true part of the story was that I lost to a girl one time. She was a southpaw though which I really wasn't used to seeing. I got an early lead on her, but then she came back and defeated me 10-9. I haven't given up, but I'm a bit hesitant to play.

I will have to go with hockey as the toughest sport to compete in. It involves speed, endurance, hand to eye coordination. physical and mental toughness. and most other attributes desirable in athletics. To top it all off, the game is played on ice!!

For those who have seen a hockey game, how many times have you witnessed a player in front of the crease with a defenseman cross checking him, another defenseman holding his stick while the goalie is slashing him on the shins? Meanwhile, a slap shot is coming towards the net at 100 miles an hour, on edge, through a maze of players and he reaches out and redirects the puck into the top left corner??? You try it.......

You say NASCAR isn't a sport then what does that make golf. Because I am sure some of them big fat guys can play any other sports like you said. Nascar is a Sport PERIOD.

Hardest sport to master - baseball. Stand at the plate facing a Verlander FB and then have him drop a curve that starts out at your head.
Most physically demanding non-violent sport - triathlon or marathon.
Most physically demanding violent sport - football
Most difficult mentally - car racing or golf.
Sport in which athletes are the most overrated athletically - basketball. Yes they are great athletes but football is tougher on the body, baseball is harder to master, etc.
Sport in which athletes must be the most physically gifted to excel - basketball. I don't care how gifted you are athletically, you have to be tall or fast or both to play basketball. You can be short but you better be extremely quick. You can be strong and fairly slow to play basketball but you better be tall.

Sport most willing to accommodate a fat slob (kinda like I am) - tie - golf or bowling.
Sport with the male athletes most likely to be found in a dress at some point in their lives - figure skating. Not that there is anything wrong with that (requisite Seinfeld quote), most of those guys are better athletes on their worst day than I was on my best. However, I have five words for you - Dick Button, Olympic Gold Medalist.
Sport with the most athletes who now want to kick my a** - figure skating
Sport with athletes that should be required to wear more clothes - sprinters.
Sport with athletes that should be required to wear less clothes - I was going to say volleyball but there IS beach volleyball so I don't know.
Sport with the biggest wuss athletes - tie - NBA basketball, tennis and golf. As for basketball, for crying out loud, you shoot badly because you don't work at it, not because of the ball. As for tennis and golf, if you require your fans to be shushed before you play you need to turn in your man card.
Sport with the biggest wuss fans - tennis and golf. If you have to be shushed to watch your sport and you take it you need to turn in your man card.
Sport in which your kid needs to participate in order to be watchable - soccer. It is a great sport to play, don't get me wrong, but I can't take it, I just can't take it.
Sport totally unwatcheable even if my kid was the best at it in the world - Formula 1 racing. Almost no lead changes with some European geeks as the best athletes. No thanks. If I have a chance to to attend an F1 event or have a tooth extracted without novocaine, I'm hitting the dentist's chair.
Sport with best officials for reasons that have nothing to do with officiating skills - Australian rules football - If I remember correctly, that is the sport where the official wears an overcoat, a fedora and does a two handed pistol hip shot thingie when someone scores. Worth watching highlights for...well...almost.
Worst movie sport - that goat game they played in Rambo III. Watch it and you'll see what I mean. Any sport that requires you to grab a dead goat carcass is not going to make it to ESPN.

I'm pretty familiar with foosball but what is a southpaw?
I wanted to have a career in sports when I was young, but I had to give it up. I'm only six feet tall, so I couldn't play basketball. I'm only 190 pounds, so I couldn't play football. And I have 20-20 vision, so I couldn't be a referee. ~Jay Leno

bbdall thanks for the nice break down of all your thoughts and I agree with all most of them...i disagree with soccer not being able to be watchable...IMO at least...I think if you are watching a good team that has fundamentals it is fun to watch...or sitting at home drinking a cold one watching it on TV is also a great way to watch a game...but some people dont understand it and I am sure it is boring to watch then....

Soccer is very watchable imo. I watched all the world cup I could this summer.

Well, we only have soccer until the 6th grade so I don't have to worry about watching bad highschool games.

I've done some reading on people that run ultra marathons or 100 miles runs. Unbelieveable. Run 24 or more hours straight...uphill, downhill, different terrain, different temps...talk about an absolute mental battle on top of a run like that.

I'll give props to foosball too...I finally beat the old man over Christmas in a 13 game series...wheeewwwww... hifive2.gif

Maybe someone should request that Rocketman or another Mod create a foosball forum...just a suggestion.................. whistling.gif
