I can see why some wanted a change and maybe it is time for someone new.......I don't live in the community, so I am just guessing here. If what Dogface Gremlin said was true, that is not the way to do it, especially to a coach of Korto's stature. I like Palacelaw's idea of negotiating that this would be Dick's last season and he could get his farewell tour and his 900 wins. Maybe that was discussed and Coach K said no to it, I don't know. Not that I disagree with the BOE's decision, but more with how they handled it.

It was never discussed. They didn't even offer to name the gym after him. I made another suggestion to a board member that they let him run some free clinics for elementary school kids. He could have kept involved with the game and youngsters without the pressure of a head coaching job

Dick pretty much summed up things when he said "Do you think anyone will ever beat 890"....."do you know anyone who has coached 40 years at the same place"......what about.......I had great players....or better yet, WE had great players......our kids accomplished so much.....OMG people....this wasn't about anything concerning the TEAM........the whole career was about EGO.........enough said!!!!!!

The future of Kalida basketball and its players is much better off!!!!!

This doesn't happen often, but I totally agree with Flounder on this.

Anyone that has been to a game where Kortokrax was coaching could obviously see that his son Rick was leading the team. It was time for a change.

I feel sorry for the next guy coaching Kalida. That will be no easy task to replace a legend.

I agree with that with the exception of the last sentence.....

Consensus seems to be Kalida is a sleeping giant. Next guy will be very successful .......

The irony to this all is that Kalida is on the map in Ohio because of Dick Kortokrax, and they will remain so because of this decision.
.

Pine........

Kalida is on the map because of 'Pioneer Days' period........and those 'Pioneer Days' have been going on longer than Dick......and will continue to go on!!!!!!

The feeling on social media is that he would not agree to play underclassmen ahead of upperclassmen so he was threatened with non renewal if he did not "retire". That is in the Columbus paper.

Hmmmmm......wonder how the Columbus paper got hands on this information while the local news media is just blowing it off.........................Family!!!!!!!!

Since Randy is the coach at Hartley, it's not too hard to figure out.☺

maybe Dick will move to Columbus and become an assistant at Hartley? He could run the practices in case Randy sees another opportunity to join up with Joe Verhoff and open a bakery to compete with Buckeye Donuts.

From what is being posted on Twitter everywhere, the decision was not his, and the school board went AGAINST the recommendation of the AD and the superintendent. Apparently they met with him earlier in the week and asked HIM to make it easy on THEM and resign, and agree not to go to the media about the situation, as well as, ask his family not to "rock the boat". Are you kidding me?

Their reasons were that NOBODY in the community supported him, and implied that kids do not play or have quit because of his boring practices, and how much he bores them with his coaching style. Seriously. Who are all of these people trying to kid. The feeling on social media is that he would not agree to play underclassmen ahead of upperclassmen so he was threatened with non renewal if he did not "retire". That is in the Columbus paper.

Age and control were the real motivators here.

It was in the Columbus paper because a lot of that was said BY HIM on Friday, check the article I posted it has the audio

I was at the Eye Doctors office in Lima a few months back. He came walking in and sat down. The lady came to the door and called his name Three times and he never moved. Finally she said Final call for Richard Kortokrax again he never moved. Then a man sitting across from him said Coach I believe they are calling you, he looked up walked to the door, the Lady said are you Richard Kortokrax and he nodded his head and never said a word. It was kinda shocking like watching a " Zombie". I was like my gosh I hope he didnt drive over by himself ?? But there was nobody else with him.

Sometimes tough decisions have to be made to move forward. Right, wrong or indifferent, the school board's job is to do what's best moving forward, not behind. Hats off to a great career!

The only way Kalida will see a regional run over the next 3 years is if Crestview gets moved to a different district.

Crestview should be D-3 with all their recruits from Indiana.

Good call...forgot about the new sectional/district set up. Whens the last time Kalida's been out of sectionals, 2011?
