Per WLIO Delphos Jefferson's Marc Smith resigned today. Also per Jim Naveau on Twitter, Versailles basketball coach Scott McEldowney has resigned also.

Cry me a river, Coach. His fault for letting any outside influences get to him.

In my opinion the parents of Jefferson have him an easy out by passing a petition. IF there was one. Which from the interview on Koza the administration has no idea if there was a petition. Marc's words. Has anyone actually seen the petition or signed it?

It wasn't that long ago that the entire football coaching staff at Jefferson resigned. Even the golf coach got sick of the B.S. from mommy and daddy and hung it up. Now the basketball coach is done. Who would want to put themselves through that headache and take the job?

I've heard from several sources the petition discussion was all over social media. I'm not in that loop so I can't confirm but there seems to be legs to that rumor.

I've heard that previous coaches at Jefferson dealt with petitions being passed around also. I don't know what people expect over there.

the signs as you enter the city declaring Delphos "America's friendliest city" are about the opposite way most people feel when they go there. Delphos, whether it be Jefferson or St. John's, football or basketball, is a closed town that does not welcome outsiders. I have been to football and basketball games at both schools. not a friendly city when you win, tougher when you lose.

As a former coach in NW Ohio, let me enlighten how outside influences can "get to you."

1. Your wife is confronted in the grocery store and rudely told that Johnny should be starting.
2. Your phone rings several times during the season and a "fan" who is too spineless to identify himself proceeds to tell you what a POS coach you are and threatens your livelihood.
3. Your car is vandalized while sitting in your driveway.
4. Your kids are ignored by friends while at school due to their brother not getting enough playing time.
5. After a win, a parent storms into your locker room and cusses you out because his son did not play
6. Family is harassed while sitting in the bleachers during a game.

So FlightCrew, when you learn what coaching is about, please let us know. Until then I would politely suggest you keep your 2 cents to yourself.

Here's 2 more pal.
You think that crap was pulled on Korto, Chris Adams, Jeremy Best, TyMac, Q, Al Welch, Josh Leslie?
Hell no cause they have programs in place, good coaches, demand and command respect. Nobody questions them.

I can't wait for the responses to FlightCrew's post. This may be better than the Republican debate.

Korto had a mob of people trying to run him out of town just a few years ago. Even legendary coaches have parents that either dislike them for playing time or for pushing little Johnny too hard. I recently spoke to a hall of fame coach who told me how hard the town was on him and his family in the 1 really down season he had. His wife didn't even want to go to the grocery store during busy times because of the comments and uncomfortable exchanges.

FlightCrew-get a clue. ( lol )

I know a coach that got an angry email from a parent... while on the bus ride home after winning a Regional semi-final game-his kid didn't get to play.

I know a coach that had his tires slashed while the team was competing in a State Championship.

Lot of crazies out there.

Fort fan, being a proud Perry Commodore, and there is no thread on our game, I would like to congratulate you guys for Tuesday even if you lost. You were a great MAC representative and your fans were great and respectful the whole game. I think they may have been a little shellshocked they lost to Perry. Lol either way what a fantastic basketball game and we will try to take down the 'skins tonight.

while I have heard of these things happening, I know that we had a coach at DSJ by the name of Armzen where this never happened.....even when he had a down season, people understood......I do agree that the times are a changing....have a son in coaching and the $hit that is going on in hs
sports shouldn't be......and most of the $hit is going on by the parents and their influence!!!!

I think many people in Delphos would agree with you to a certain extent.......Delphos certainly isn't the community it used to be, but maybe you aren't conversing with the right people.....show me a town that you can call 'Amerca's friendliest city'!!!!!!!

Just read the article on Smith's resignation and I wonder if this could have been handled differently......I never knew he was a physical therapist....not saying that makes a difference. Smith did some very good things at DJ and will be hard to replace....viewing past history, it will be very hard to make a quality hire!!!!!!
