On that much we CAN agree on....and that is the crux of the matter. AAU has destroyed Ohio HS
athletics in the way it is supposed to be.....this is the reason you are seeing all of these
other "AAU-types" at the Lima Senior basketball games this year. They are taking notes on how
this is being done, so that they can take it back to Cincy, Columbus, Cleveland, etc. and weave
this into the way their AAU and high programs are run.....Ted Ginn Sr. was probably the first in
Ohio to figure it out. Then Dambrot at ASVSM....there have been others to be sure.....North College
Hill, Cincy Taft, and NOW Lima Sr.....maybe I should be glad that the locals are just now figuring
out the insane OHSAA rules....maybe it is time that LSH gets their fair share. Just call me old-school
about high school athletics. It wasn't or shouldn't be meant to be this way. Agree or disagree, I
feel that the OHSAA is completely at fault, but no one is willing to put up a fight....If things keep
going this way, (and I think they will) it will mean the end of high school athletics as I knew it.
Maybe the younger crowd is all fine with this and I'm just a grumpy old man....RM
I agree with so much of this. It is as I wrote it myself. But I'm torn... I think the world of Quincy Simpson as a person first...then as a coach. As a "small school" guy...what happens at the higher divisions has never bothered me. I see Lima Senior as late to the game... I guess my affection for the man in charge, combined with a apathy toward "how the hot dog is made" for the higher divisions...leads me to rooting more for Lima Senior than I ever have...
On a side note... Am I really supposed to feel sorry for Elida?
This means I'm part of the problem...because we all know the same stuff happens at the lower levels too. ...and that drives me nuts...but much less so than a decade ago.
High school sports is critically wounded and youth sports are but a dollar grab for MOST involved. I still love the game so much. But the fantasy it's long gone.
In this world of present day athletics...Quincy Simpson is one of the good guys. The world and Lima Senior could do a lot worse...and I dare say...not much better.
