Garbage or spot on? I'm glad a coach finally had the guts to come out and tell it like it is. I've read other people on here say that most schools will have an occasional dip in talent and have an off year or two. Does anyone realize this never happens to the state powered private schools. Why is that?

never find in the Lima News because of their idolization with the LCC program....

I agree that something needs to be done, and has needed to be done for a long, long time..
until the OHSAA has the gonads to do something you will continue to hear this....I agree
with most of Coach Grisdale's comments concerning ASVSM and any other school who participates
in this charade...RM

Let's not forget the public schools. Columbus Grove lost in the state finals to a team that had a star guard transfer in from another school. North College Hill. Berlin Hiland won back to back state titles on the back of a transfer. Steubenville football is often charged with bringing in players from West Virginia and SE Ohio. Aren't schools like Dayton Dunbar, HH Wayne, Thurgood Marshall, Brookhaven, etc... constantly part of the transfers conversation? Doubtless you could ask folks from around Ohio and find countless other examples. If you want to go after them, go after them all.

Agreed. Between voucher systems and open enrollment, the public's aren't exactly innocent either. If we're going to get into this again, lets get it ALL out on the table.

What are you talking about??? Dayton Dunbar, Berlin Hiland, OG, Moeller, Taft....do I need to go on? They are tough year after year!! And yes, privates are right there with them every year., but it's not the same teams every year. You cant back up your statements with facts, just generalizations.

Uh...Moeller is private....and has kids that drive up to an hour to play...I mean attend school there

I said most not all. Moeller is private, this was considered a down year for O-G in basketball, didn't make the play-offs in football, Dunbar is part of the problem. Relax schrades. I never said anything about the school you follow. You continually say that you don't care, yet you are always one of the first to jump in and defend that side of the issue. If you really don't care(which I don't believe) that's fine but if you do, take off the rose colored glasses and grow some thicker skin.

Separating Public and Private schools would be a huge mistake for the OHSAA

Everything is "on the table" AGAIN this year. The competitive balance proposal treats public and private schools exactly the same. We will give you status quo defenders all your Northland's, Dunbar's, etc and stipulate that ALL boundary stretchers should have some reasonable limitations. We will see how the individual schools vote, if they bother to vote at all, this year.

Last year the local benefactors and their church going brethren sympathizers were completely satisfied to vote self-interest ahead of principle. Their willingness to forsake all pretense toward wanting to compete on a level playing field has been rewarded THIS year. We look forward to next week's posts where so many will want their school and children to be awarded the same accolade as Crestview...as if the two paths traveled were of equal difficulty.

Can anybody confirm the accuracy of the allegation that four of five SVSM starters are not from Ohio? I refuse to believe that things have become THAT brazen...

But either way, I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm a fan of a public school that has had plenty of success in some sports and not so much in others. I would hope that our coaches would never whine like this joker.

You assume that principle and self interest are mutually exclusive. Did those who voted FOR the last proposal vote in their self interest instead of principle? I guess it depends where you stand. I believe most, if not all, of the MAC schools voiced their opposition to the last proposal as well.

You do remember when North College Hill had at least three starters that were from out of state. And I don't recall if they were starters but didn't Van Wert have two brothers from Fort Wayne play on their team some years ago?

I can't offiially comfirm but reading other sites, 4 of the 5 starters moved with thier familes from WV and Pa, but live in Akron area now so guess it would be legit
