Wapak and Kenton have new coaches. Celina graduated Seniors. OG needs to find a quarterback. Sounds like an interesting fall. Why can't a Bath or Defiance sneak up and take the league at 7-3?

I can't speak for Bath, Elida, and the other dark horses. But while I'm usually defending Defiance at every opportunity, they aren't coming close to winning the league next year. We're losing the QB, the top 6 leading recievers, the top 4 leading rushers(from a TERRIBLE running game). We haven't had any kind of defense at all since 2009, and the last time the argument could be made for a GOOD defense was 2008.

The lower classes look really good and I'm excited for the future. But I fear 2014 will be a long season.

All valid points. You simply can't replace a tandem of Guilliam and Hancock.

When Keween left the year before they were VERY lucky to have someone as talented as Batt to be there to back him up.

As you alluded to, Defiance has a LOT of young talent, but it's still talent. A lot of the young talent is now used to winning in football (at the lower levels) and also in other sports (basketball and baseball). You have to think some of that rubs off on them and they aren't as "young" as their class would appear to be. Probably another .500 season but after that, IF all the kids stay out for football (which isn't always the case), there are TONS of athletes coming down the pipeline that can do some big things.

I'm amazed at the continual lack of respect that otherwise knowledgable football fans have for the OG program. Until this year 8 straight playoff appearances and an AVERAGE regular season record of 8-2 during those 8 years. OG hasn't had a losing record since 2003. Only Kenton can top that, and look at the number of D1 studs they've found in their program. ;)

Despite being the smallest school in the league and not much more than half the size of Wapak, they have clearly been the second best team in the WBL behind Kenton for the past decade. Even so, I'm pretty sure OG has split the last 6 games with Kenton going 2-2 against Maty Mauk and 1-1 against Sherman. I wouldn't be surprised if OG has the better head to head record against Kenton in the last 10 years.

Does anyone have access to the head to head scores in the WBL? Paging Teddy?

I think OG has lost to Elida ONE TIME since 1995, and that was when Elida was loaded and OG had 7 starters out for stupidity. Celina's win this year vs OG was the first win for a very long time, maybe a decade. Defiance too had lost quite a few in a row until they got a win this year.

Wapak has won 3 of the last 4 solely because of Frye, but I still think OG is 7-3 for the last ten. Saint Marys had a better head to head vs. OG until Frye left and since then it was a debacle. Not sure Bath or Van Wert have beaten OG even once? When was the last time Bath or Van Wert beat OG? Van Wert may have been 2006, 2004?

Kenton's got to develop a new QB and "find" another WR that can kill it. Who is Kenton's next QB, and where did he transfer from? Celina lost a lot of seniors, as did Defiance - though Buti's Bunch is clearly on the upswing and looking promising after a decade of frustration. Elida has finally run out of D1 caliber athletes. Wapak lost their head coach and maybe much of their staff not to mention ANOTHER monster FB.
Bath and VW have a long ways to go and need to find some skilled athletes. SM will be in the top 3 in the league again because Frye is that good, but hard to think they do any better than 5-5 the first year.

OG will have a strong senior group next year that has played significant time since they were sophomores, even among that undefeated 2012 squad. Schriner can get away with a "game manager" at QB better than anyone else in the league, and if their OL gets straightened out this could be anywhere from a 8 to a 10 win team. Their run defense was strong last year with half the talent that Kenton had, but they'll have to do better defending the pass which I think they will.

Don't sleep on OG.

When has Kenton ever had a QB transfer in at the varsity level? All of their QB's have been home grown since I have been following them for the last 30 years. They have a kid that's in the 7th grade that transfered from Shawnee but that's the only one that I've ever heard of.

Didn't Kenton get a stud junior high QB from Blufton, or Ada recently?

What about the freshman backup that is so good, he didn't play JV? Kenton born and bred?

I based my initial WAY TOO EARLY prediction based on returning talent. Every year I make sure to see at least every team once.

In my opinion, Wapak has a lot of returning talent. What remains to be seen is how Moyer does. Some great coaches fail at certain schools for one reason or another, it just ends up not being a good fit, it's just that simple.

Owl - Ken Schriner, year in and year out, overachieves with the talent he has on hand. He's really built a great program at OG, I just don't see the big time 1,500 yard rusher or the stud LB that gets 120 tackles right now. Maybe one of those sophomores will step up and be that guy and OG will be in the hunt.

I love the fact that none of us know who Kenton will "recruit" at QB for next year but we all acknowledge that Kenton will in fact go "outside the program" to get a signal caller. Keepin' it Klassy in K-Town ;)

This year is going to be a major transitional year for the WBL, Kenton and Wapak hit the reset button on successful programs, lots of the big time guys are gone, and SM welcomes home the prodigal son (Doug Frye).

OG will be just fine at running back this season. I think Dan or someone will step up at QB and do what is needed for success.

Kenton...I saw all 3 last year and horrible is all I can say. If they are going to do anything this year they better figure that out because without a GREAT QB in that offense, stick a fork in it.
I'm not sure which QB you guys saw but when OG JV played them at OG, they tried 3 different guys. None were scramblers and all of them had horrible accuracy. I was surprised they could even hit the turf with the ball.
Bath's problem isn't nor ever was talent....

At OG baseball game. Looks like the Football team is here and hitting the weight room. Folks say the big Recker kid lives in the weight room and the Godsil kid looks like he should play tight end. I hear track athletes even lifting for football.

I know this is rather boring compared to talking about new coaches, defenses and other things. But who has the best kicking game in the league next year?

I think he will be ok, Kenton did win the Toledo 7 on 7 tourny today, yeah I know it doesn't mean much. Truthfully, I don't expect much of a drop off from last year if any.

Not hardly lives in the HN district went there until his 8th grade year, then the debacle that occurred last summer at HN had a couple of classmates join him.

Heard OG did well at the Liberty Benton 7 on 7. Did anyone go?

Who looked good on O and D?

Yup they won it. First time ever I believe. Several good wideouts and both QB's did fairly decent.
