Junior high started in the early to mid 90's. Coach Metzger wasn't a big fan of junior high football. Didn't want the kids to get burnt out and come in with a fire to play.

There was no JH football at through 90s maybe started in 00 or 01

It's gonna be interesting to see how this year plays out.

Coming from North Baltimore, I don't expect much of the Tigers this year. I'm just hoping to see a revival of the rivalry between North Baltimore and Van Buren. Coach Bishop expects to have 30 players on this years squad.

I know no one here cares too much for North Baltimore, but I still like to discuss them :)

I would like to take time while we are on topic in this thread to give a shout out to the McComb Panthers, Coach Alge and the whole Panthers program for bringing back some pride to the lower divisions within our conference in the last few years. Recently viewed as an early round doormat for the MAC to clean their boots on, the players, program and staff at McComb have brought some pride and competitive prowess back to the BVC. I am stoked for the upcoming season and the old/new rivalries that will be unfurled. For the longest time (with the exception of LB) the BVC has been downplayed via strength of schedule and lack of tradition. All I know is that when I was sitting in the stands at the 2012 Panthers vs. Jays game after Wilson caught that pass as a VB fan, I have never cheered that loud in my life. The "BVC" chant from the crowd wearing a multitude of conference school spirit wear and letter jackets was a thing of legend. I felt like I was the the BVC version of "We Are Marshall". Make no mistake, we are back.

McComb and Coach Alge have indeed been the real deal.

No it's combined 7th and 8th grade. I believe they have only lost 2 games in the last two years. The seventh graders this year won the Northwest Ohio Midget League Super Bowl their 6th grade year.
Better for the kids if they have separate teams if they have the numbers. A lot of difference between 7th and 8th grades, and it keeps the 7th graders interested.

Midget football is so overrated. The only true benefit of midget football is pulling kids away from soccer. You have more of a chance of turning kids away from the sport of football as so many kids have had any growth spurts yet. The best thing for kids at this age would be a flag football league.

Here's Van Buren's 2014 schedule:

@ Ottawa Hills - hope the Green Bears are improved from last year
Bluffton - don't know much about the Pirates this year
@ McComb - should be a good game and I get a kick out of listening to people bitch about their announcer
Arlington - all we can do here is pray no one gets hurt and that we gain some experience in a hard hitting slug fest
North Baltimore - will probably leave after half time and go to the bar depending on how early we put the reserves in
Vanlue - will probably just go to the bar
@ Leipsic - should be a great game with access to the best concession stand nachos in our conference
Hopewell Loudon - not sure what to expect here or where they are at in their rebuilding phase
@ Liberty Benton - if VB were only to win one game all year, I would want it to be this one (personal reasons - not being a hater)
@ Pandora Gilboa - they put the smack on us last year should be a good game, wish it were home though, that field sucks

From what I can tell you predict 3 easy wins and the rest of the games could go either way and you have a rivilary like OSU vs TSUN as most OSU fans would say if they would only win one game it would be vs them.

Hardin Northern has had plenty of hard nosed battles with the MAC winning some and losing some. Not positive but i think facing the MAC more so than any other BVC school. But as you noted recently, i do believe Kirkendall and Leipsic deserve a shout out as well along with Alge and the McComb Panthers. Leipsic may not have won the recent games against the MAC(DSJ) but Leipsic sure was no doormat. Bummer to see Kirkendall leave a program he re-emurged to the top. Best of luck to all BVC schools in 2014!

Pretty accurate analysis of my breakdown with an exception of your implying that I view the VB vs. LB game as a rivalry. It's more of a friendly alumni matchup I engage in each year with a buddy from out of town that went to LB. It ends with drinks at Frickers and reminiscing 'bout raising hell in the good old days.

Some coaching changes, the added teams, the move to divisions, and not playing everybody = nobody knows what to think.

You could be right Bob, but if I had a new coach and a new schedule......I would have some opinions on the upcoming season. But I'm not to shy. LOL!
