Two weeks in, what are everyone's thoughts now on conference champs, top teams, bottom teams?

Top is still the same LB, Arl, McComb, Bottom still the same Van, CR, Arcade, added Riverdale, the rest fighting for the middle.

I had Liberty-Benton 2nd until I saw their first two games. They are not bad at all. They will be a tough out in the BVC. Can they be beat, sure they can. Will they is the question. I will take them as the #1 team for now.

I think Arlington will be tough if they develop an air attack, and I believe both McComb and Van Buren are underrated at this point. Rettig is a great football player, but Grubb concerns me at the QB position. Bowling Green's QB is going to Ohio Univ. on a baseball scholarship and their #1 WR is going to Youngstown State for football. They were a formidable test, but LB seemed to figure them out. Hopefully that will continue through the BVC play.

I think that with the wins LB has so far (Wynford and Bowling Green) they can make the playoffs with one loss, but I'm sure the coaches and kids goals are to take one game at a time and win the BVC. Time will tell. JMHO!

Yeah but look at all the fringe benefits you get now.... better daily local paper coverage, radio game of the week, less travel time/ expenses, included in the water cooler discussions on Monday at work....

Come on falcon.... glass half full here!! :)

Expansion wasn't about Harbins anyways. It was $$$$. VB got more of a gate last night than they did the last 6 times they hosted CR and Vanlue combined.

The bigger and/or more successful schools had the others over a barrel because a league comprised of Arcadia, Vanlue, CR, HN and whatever other dregs they could pull together as a league wasn't gonna pay the bills.
I get it. Kickem when they are down is human nature. That said there is only 1 other BVC school that can talk about HN and have a little credibility. VB is not that school.

I don't think that the teams at the top change L-B Arlington and McComb could Vanlue get more than 1 win this yr gotta think they might

It wouldn't be out of line to consider Vanlue a favorite over Cory.

...and...we now get the chance to play Cory-Rawson, Arcadia, and Vanlue every year! However...no promises for victories against them this year. Besides, a 30 minute bus ride home after a beat-down is better than an hour-plus after a beat-down any day.

You gotta remember, as almighty as high school football is, it's not the only sport that schools compete in. We'll have our chances to win in other sports until we get a competitive football program (thank goodness). Again, not promising or predicting wins against the other BVC schools at this point. I think it is fair to say that the BVC has shown improvement among the top teams in many of the league's sports...take volleyball, for example...it's gonna be hard for any conference to beat having the current #1, #2, and #6 teams in the state. I know you give me a hard time about all this "BVC envy"...The NCC was a quality conference in its day, even after we lost the Marion area schools and picked up schools like Ontario, Crestline, Lucas, and Fredericktown (early on), Galion, Bucyrus, and Upper Sandusky. In those days, an NCC contest (basketball, baseball, etc.) was usually harder to win than a game vs. a typical BVC team. But the past 10-15 years, the NCC has been on a decline, and the top of the BVC has elevated themselves. Yes, I ranted about our location and all the other "fringe benefits" that you love to remind me about, but I am glad that we're now a part of a conference that is gaining a stronger reputation instead of one that was in decline.

Raz me all you want about the newspaper coverage...at least we'll be able to easily FIND our articles in The Courier now.

Got us all wandering ,what did happen at the midget game? My guess is it wasn't the players, probably the coaches or parents, after all isn't that what it's supposed to be all about, reliving those glory years??

Well I wasn't there but I talked to people from both sides and the Arlington Mom I talked to said she was so embarrassed by the Arlington parents involved. Saw in the docket the Sheriff was called to a disturbance I don't remember the address but it was main street of Arlington at the school Sat night.

Being blown way out of proportion ! No punches thrown or anything physical , but you are correct about the main issue being adults.

The Arlington players conducted themselves with class through the entire ordeal, which can't be said for the other team they were playing.

As a former coach, 90% of the time issues arise are from the parents not the athletes. It's just sad how parents do this in sports at all levels, in ALL sports.

Regarding the Arlington Midget incident referenced above: Its hard to take any of those posts serious when people refer so vaguely to what did or didn't happen....IE, "after what happened at the Arlington midget game", "blown out of proportion", "can't be said about the other team", "sounds like a problem". If you think you have facts you have right to post them. If you don't just leave it alone and quit insinuating things.
