I don't understand why there is any talk on Arlington having a drop off in the near future. Very good the past few years at both the high school and junior high level. Am i missing something?

Talent level will drop a bit I don't think it's a huge drop. I think we may have concerns up front.

It's going to seem very strange the next few years in the BVC, the old rivalries, the familiar faces and teams we've always played is gone. You won't play the other 9 league schools, North Baltimore, Riverdale and Hopewell Loudon is joining the league and there are more non-conference games. Deciding a conference champion may be debatable as teams won't play the same opponents. That said, the same cast of characters will probably rein next season. Arlington, LB, McComb, Leipsic will probably be near the top, with Van Buren trying to break into the mix. Hopewell could be a dark horse.

Arlington SHOULD be really tough next year. With most of the line back Rettig might score 50 TD's which will not help because we still will not be able to move the ball against elite teams who stack the box.

bvcgrad............Arlington "WILL" be really tough next year. Unlike Arlington....LB will not have the line to go with their returning skilled folks.

That is good to hear lol ! Why would the girls basketball schedule get switched around like that ? It seems like that shouldn't be effected from adding a few teams .

Post, that confirms what fightingpanther posted on page 1. It also makes sense since Riverdale had been your opening game. At least game one will be easy to fill.

IV87, what's your thoughts on the Vikes upcoming season?

New coach, new staff, open up with 4 road games, 6 of the 10 games on the road. Games of interest include: Spencervlle, St. Joe, LB, McComb, and Arlington (4 of the 5 on the road). Those teams also posted a 36-14 regular season record last year (actually 20-4 at home). Add VB who you beat 26-20 and PG who you beat 26-21, it could be an interesting season.

Your thoughts?

Post Player or BVCgrad, what's your thoughts for the Devils upcoming season. A-town should be the cream of the BVC in 2014 and the schedule looks to set up nice for them. You got LB, Leipsic and McComb at home. Those teams were 24-5 regular season in 2013. Your 5 road games are vs. teams with a combined record of 17-33.

A very good team that will play the good teams at home and the bad teams on the road.

For what its worth, my take on LB: They will struggle with their line this year. This could make for some closer games in 2014. Leipsic, Arlington, Bowling Green, Wynford, and possibly VB and HL could all be interesting games. Due to the new make up of the conference, it has allow LB to now schedule four D6 teams and a D3. This will help them a bit in the computer "if" they win games. If they win the close games mentioned above they should make the playoffs, but I would think their chances are slim they would advance from week 11. If they stumble in some of those game they could very well lose 2 to 3 games and miss week 11.

But who knows, its JMHO.

HL will prob be .500 or so.
Always a watchful eyes on those Tiffin Calvert Senecas, Marion Local Flyers, Fort Loramie Redskins , New Albany Eagles.

Not sure yet. I met the new coach Friday night. Seems like a good guy. I was told his demeanor will work well with our kids and that's a plus there. Coach K got some kids out that might not of come out for different reasons. I hope Coach Mangas can do the same. Not sure what kind of offense or defense we will run yet. Coming from Findlay, I know at times they liked to air it out, but two years ago they had they Settlemier kids at RB that was all-state and ran the ball a lot. I'm hoping for a good balance as we have an all-league RB and WR returning. We do have to break in a new QB though, so we may lean toward the run early on.

We will still be young as we played a lot of sophomores last year. The upcoming senior class doesn't have real big numbers, although the ones that do play are talented. Wednesday night, when it was announced that Coach Mangas had been hired, there seemed to be a little more electricity in the crowd so I think the Viking faithful are excited.

As far as the staff goes, I know some of the old staff went to PH with Coach K, some decided to call it quits, and some are open to coming back with Coach Mangas. I don't know if he's bringing guys in from Findlay but I think at least half of the staff will be new.

The schedule does cause some concerns. The four on the road to open will be tough and four of the six are approximately hour bus trips. Fremont St. Joe is a one year deal, so when Columbus Grove slides in there in 2015, it will be back to a 5 home and 5 away schedule. Going to St. Joe I feel is a good thing as it lets the kids play on turf early in the season.

There's a lot of talent in next years junior class, but with a new coach and new system, I think it all depends on how fast the kids buy in and adapt. The schedule didn't do us any favors, but you still have to play 10 games and the following year all those teams will have to make the long trip to Leipsic. There is a buzz of excitement over here, I hope Coach Mangas builds on that and keeps the program moving in the right direction. From meeting him briefly and talking to other people, I think he will.
