No problem Irish Viking. Leispsic has a good team here in the Northwest part of the state and could be that Distritct winner. Although as far as my opinion on the competitiveness in NW girls basketball is a bit down this year. In recent years there were some good teams in the NW that I felt confident enough that one of those teams would get to state and compete. So far it looks like that now but I don't know so much on the competing part. Don't get me wrong, I think the district will be competitive for those teams involved and the winner of that will probably go on to play Hiland in that state semi final. There have been times throughout the season that Crestview, Leispic and Holgate looked really good. Then there were some games that they didn't look too good. So that's why I kind of feel that way, but one of those teams or somebody else in that Elida Regional will advance to state. Be nice to see a team from the NW (Lima area) to represent and compete well.

My predictions:

Reedsville vs Ft Loramie

Hiland vs Crestview

Loramie vs Hiland

Loramie

Finally, some love for my Lady Vikes. Thanks Mysterio and Tiger. I haven't said anything because of the dreaded jinx. But they are 19-3 with their only losses to state ranked Liberty Benton, Holgate(both close games) and an early season loss by about 20 to state ranked Ottawa Glandorf.

They do have good size, team speed, and a few girls that can hit the three. They move the ball extremely well on offense also. The only things that concern me are 1. sometimes they get going too fast and then tend to turn the ball over and 2. they haven't lost since Dec. 19th.(I hope the don't get complacent) I'm pretty sure Gary won't let this happen.

If the seeds hold true Saturday, it will be a great district with Leipsic, Pandora-Gilboa(who gave Carey 1 of it's 2 losses this year) Crestview, and Ottoville. Leipsic has all the elements to make a deep tourney run, but they have to put it all together every night from here on out because now each game is winner take all.

Having called about 10 of their games this year I'd say your point on moving too fast sometimes is fair, I've personally seen that a couple of times....it happened against Kalida for instance but they were able to weather the storm and pull out the win.

PG is a much better team now than they were at the beginning of the season, the problem I see with them however is they shoot an extremely low % from 3 as a team (about 24.7%) and that could be an issue against a good perimeter oriented team.

Crestview has a plethora of 3 point shooters....

Bauer girl is a sophomore down low and is really good. Motycka is the best on the team and can score all around. Of course Crestview has great defense and can hold you to under 30 points per game....deliberate....well coached.

P.S. Crestview softball program has shown us what a real program is so we all are very well versed....but thanks for the expertise.
There's a state tournament for softball? I thought it was for something to do before summer break. Is it tough to get hotel reservations?

I was thinking those players were going to be back. May change this.
Versailles only won by 8 the other night but have until next Saturday off before their district final, probably against Georgetown. Hopefully Versailles can hang on the boards with Georgetown center Patricia Ewing :-)

Loved watching them vs Ottoville last year, excited to call that PG/CV game on Thursday at Lima Sr.

That was a dreadful game for Crestview last year against Ottoville lol . Ottoville owned them with their pressure defense.

Captain........

Settle down their my friend.....after all, you were noted earlier as hiding out in a confessional at DSJ.......lmao.....on a more serious note.....I am pulling for your lady Knights and boys, but both teams seem to be not playing their best basketball right now......just curious to your thoughts.....watched them both recently and I didn't think either team was playing as well as earlier in the season!!!!!

Flounder---
Not worried about the boys. A close game to Grove at home on senior night is perfect timing in my opinion. Gets them in a close game environment. The Knights didn't shoot well on Friday and still managed to win. I think their collective body of work speaks more than one game. Their 30 point win over WT was impressive....going on the road at Celina and winning....beating LCC by double digits....win at Spencerville at New Knoxville....beating Arlington....22-0 for a reason IMO. We all know tournament upsets do in fact happen. Just hope it isn't Crestview. But otherwise Crestview has been impressive on nearly every single outing....
Girls---who knows. We don't blow teams out. Haven't all season long but manage to go 21-1. Girls will have their hands full the rest of the way but if they play their ball that's all you can ask.

Well then let's hear the predictions of the experts and the people who know girls basketball before the regional finals. Just got home from work and saw two girls scores listed for last night. Never claimed to know all the players or names but know a lot about Ohio High School girls basketball even though I haven't lived in that area for years. Keep up by reading on the Internet, listening to games and watching some on websites and on satellite. Know more about the history than current area players but pay enough attention that I probably know a lot more than alot of people who live in that area. Bonus point to any of the expert if they can tell me who Cindy Noble was without looking it up. The poster basically said what I had said earlier, that the winner of Hiland-Rosecrans should win D4. And she didn't name any players names she was just talking about 2 headed monsters, what about Gremlins and Goonies :-) Besides not many people posting new topics on girls basketball so I thought I'd try it. My expert boys Final Four predictions: will be coming tomorrow :-)

For what its worth - I wasn't trying to knock you, just going off of what I've seen since you all in NW Ohio tend to not know as much as about the Eastern side of the state, just as I don't where you're concerned. By two-headed monster at Newark Catholic, I mean that they have two legit 6-1 posts that can handle guard play, AND they're point guard is back. If you knew that, I apologize :) Otherwise, don't get huffy! I'm just giving my two cents and flounder loves to sing my praises lol. If NC has a fault, it is that the play off of momentum, so depending on when they gain or lose it could hurt them.

On a side note....I am thankful that someone other than Hathaway Brown will win Division 2 this year!! Saw they didn't even make it past sectionals and was a 6 seed. Are they lacking quality recruits lately or what's their issue?!

Wasn't doubting her. Just you were making it sound like nobody else who had posted on that thread knew anything about girls basketball. If she lives in that part of the state she should know more than the rest of us in this part of the state about teams from eastern Ohio. Good to have some eyes over there to give scouting reports to the teams from this area :-) Are you going to the Hiland/Rosecrans game tflo? Know Hiland has the Hochstetler girl back from last year who threw up about half of their shots, I think her name is Gina. Hiland normally pretty balanced but would imagine Rosecrans would concentrate mainly on her and make other people step up to beat them. Want Rosecrans to win(Even though they knocked out St. John's in state semis in 82&83-tired of seeing Hiland there) And by saying Newark Catholic plays off momentum do you mean they press a lot? Remember the great St Johns girls teams of the late 70's, when they got their press going they had all the momentum for long stretches, sometimes the whole game :-) And I thought one of the more odd things I heard legendary St. John's boys coach Arnzen say once on a radio interview was that he didn't believe in momentum. That was kind of odd to hear him say that

Yes, Regina (Gina) Hochstetler is a senior this year. If there is a year Rosecrans will get Hiland it's this one. Both have great senior leadership but Rosecrans will have the height advantage. Being a Hiland alum of course I want them to win this, but I know how some others feel about it. Hiland will-as always-have a coaching & scouting advantage. If weather allows, I'll be there.

As for Newark Catholic - they played at the Classic without their PG. In the first 11 minutes of the game, my thought was "I have NO idea why they are ranked no. 1 in D4 - Hiland will KIILL them if they play like this!" Then, it was like a flip switched and they turned into a COMPLETELY different team. I've hardly seen anything like it. I'm sure some of this had to do with their playing the 10 am game... I'm sure they'll be up for tournament play, and they have their PG back, but I could see where they might get out of sorts if calls aren't going their way.
