WOW
She should be a beast
I heard she played summer ball and did really well
She was the first to go, and honestly I agree with the move. Nobody should have had to go through what she went through. Coaches yell at teams, but going after individual players is uncalled for.

Its not like i hang out with them.
I just know her parents.
And what does matter.
Simple questions.
and by what i gather it took alot of verbal abuse becuase she loves basketball.
And boy oh boy if any coach would say some things i heard he said i would go off and not verbally either there would be a mouth wired shut and sure wouldnt be mine.
Absoutly no adult coach, teacher, friend parent, priest, pastor andyone should talk to a kid like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not going to argue with your points on the treatment of the girls. I used to have a daughter that played. It was time that a change was made.

As I mentioned before, I knew Ted years ago. While he could be over the top once in a while, he would pat you on the back in the next minute. I'm sure when it gets down to it, he truly cares for all of his players.

That said, I've never seen him coach Basketball for any extended period of time. Only the parents and players have. While I personally have no problem with the Bobby Knight style of coaching, I might get pissed if it was directed at my kid.

I think they are making the best of the situation at hand. From the outside, we can't speculate how the team is doing, who should coach, why things were are were not done. It's time to let this team heal and play ball. At small schools, you have a different dynamic. And anyone who has issues with how it was handled, please put your name in for the school board when seats are available. My guess, like most communities these days is that people run for the board like the plague. They don't want to get involved, but they'll criticize from the sidelines all the time. Get involved!

lep.........

I think your post is right on....it seems that in today's high school sports, the parents feel it is their responsibility to help the coach by doing a bit of coaching when their child comes home......man....I feel for today's athlete that thinks he or she is going to get a break from the sport they are participating in by leaving the gym and going home......only to arrive home and hear all the negative bs from the all knowing parents.........

You know people.....and I am not bsIing anyone here.....let your kids alone and let the coach do the coaching........I know of many great coaches in the past that would make coach Patton look like a saint.........it toughens the player mentally and really prepares that player for life........and, I really find it hard to believe that these players and their parents had no clue what to expect from coach Patton.........

I guess it is what is becoming of today's society.....a bunch of pansies....when I played, I was belittled, screamed at, and heard many profane statements........it was used as a positive and I feel it made me a tougher person......i did benefit from it......and to this day.....I respect my coach as much as I respect anyone........it might be time that some of us grow up!!!!!!

And one last thing........'mysteryman'.....you sure ask a lot of questions!!!!!!!!!!

All,

We decided ( Kessler`s parents) that enough was enough, are duaghter was not enjoying the game, she was very frustrated, and misserable with what was going on, this was decided over a period of 10-14 days.I could write a book on what has went on the last 4 years, it doesnt matter now.Her coach told her he didn`t need her, he could win with out her, quit the team, and a few other choice words after a game, things didn`t let up.Her father and I went and informed the principle she was done, and the reasons why, it was brief and to the point. We asked for nothing from the school to be done, nothing from the board to be done.My daughter has worked her tail off for him and any coach or team she has played for, school teams, club teams , and she continues to put 25 hours a week in now for JO VB and core training.

Everyone is entitled to there opionions, everyone!

She will continue to play club sports, and we will continue as parents to surround her with suppotive, and knowlegable coaches and enjoy watching are girls play the sports they chosse to participate in.

I didnt want to turn my post into a finger pointing or bashing, just give a little insight. Also we had no clue the other girl was leaving the team, till after the fact, just to be clear

This may be one of the single saddest posts / situations I've seen on here. It should never, ever get to this point. Times change and people change, especially kids. I've always said that the 8th grade/ freshman/ sophomore years in high school may be the toughest 3 year stretch of a kids life, especially girls. They are going through regular physical maturity/ classes getting tougher/ maybe some speculation on what kind of career they want/ peer pressures/ boyfriend/ girlfriend stuff/ driving soon/ working/ friendships get stressed....and we've not even talked about sports yet. I hope, I hope, I hope that this young lady does not regret missing high school hoops in a year or two. I just know so many kids who quit high school sports who regret it when they are 20 years old. Never get these years back. I applaud this post though as i'm sure it's a very difficult situation. My only other comment is I wonder if the 25 hours a week of core training and club volleyball (during basketball season) has anything at all to do with this???

All this stuff that select girls cant handle the heat that Patton dished out is Bull*******. I know first hand that one of these girls targeted was told she gets screamed at because she can handle it. Obviously when someone goes home from practice crying and screaming, he is mentally hurting the girl. I am not saying he didn't coach good fundamentals but its the way he did it. You cant verbally and in some cases physically abuse young girls and not think you are doing some damage. There needs to be more looked into this such as someone by the name of Solomon or the abbreviation CPS, this went to far. Even the spineless guidance counselor/ asst. coach should be sent packing too. He didn't report some of the stuff going on. That's his main job, to protect and help guide in a proper direction his students. Lets remember they are students first and that education will get them farther than the sports. There are not too many athletes in Waynesfield who will go D-1 for full ride scholarships, education will help them more in the long run. Seen it first hand, twice again.

Ok, just curious. I know if I was a high school basketball coach, and it's basketball season, I wouldn't be real happy with some of my key players doing volleyball and core training during the season. You just invite injuries and wear kids down. Please take my words correctly waynesfield2014, I'm not preaching, but be really careful with this young lady. For some reason, we've morphed into this society that feels that kids need to do all this extra training. She's 13-14-15 years old, their bodies can't go through 10+ hours of basketball practices, 3-4 hours of volleyball and some extra core training, they break down. Kids today are in better shape than anytime in history, and we just keep piling on. The net effect, more repetitive stress injuries, stress fractures, knee injuries (especially with girls), fatigue, stress...is it really worth it? These places like the Performance Zone and these fitness places are for kids "out of season" or for adults who want to stay fit. Sorry, don't mean to preach, but I continually see the same things happening. The byproduct, high school girls teams with 1 -2 seniors year after year.

Really??? This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've read in a long time. You don't know this girl....you have no idea how she handles workouts or manages her time. Your "If I was the basketball coach" comment says it all about HS sports today. Coaches will say they want kids to play other sports....and "be a kid"....but when it comes down to it, most coaches will do everything possible to keep kids from doing anything related to another sport during the season. Kids are kids....they can handle it....they've got all kinds of energy. People wonder why kids are focusing so much on one sport.....well there's the reason....just like you said....coaches are forcing the kids to make choices....not the other way around as everyone seems to believe. Sounds to me like VB was this girls main sport...if the basketball coach can't handle it....tough luck...it is what it is and with the size of most schools around here, coaches can't afford to alienate kids....there just aren't enough to go around and keep all the sports competitive.
