Kessler is one of the girls that left. She took a majority of the verbal barrage during games, even though she is still only a freshman. Hopefully, with the right coach in place, and not somebody on the current staff, she will come back next year.

The Varisty Assistant was named interim coach and yes she was asked to come back. However, that coach was there during all this and the former coach's wife was named an assistant which is beyond crazy. Makes for an awkward situation.

Coach Patton has been accused of mistreatment of these players, but keep in mind that they both, and other players, traveled with Coach Patton on scouting trips, allowing him to pay for their admission and meals while on those trips. Also keep in mind that one of them spent considerable time in his home AFTER the Elida game, where he 'berated' her in the locker room following the game. Is it only me who thinks it odd that a parent would allow his/her daughter to participate in such activities, or that the child herself would want to be in that close a proximity to him, after those accusations?
In all honesty, I think the timing of this is a collective 'screw you' to all WG student athletes. Every sport's coaching staff now has to consider the possibility of being forced to resign at any time should there be discontent among a vocal few. I can't imagine that quality coaching is going to be busting down the doors to run undisciplined, no accountability programs. It seems that the list of horrible coaches is getting longer while the list of those desired is non-existent. I hope that I am wrong, but I can see many other athletes leaving the district to pursue quality programs that will further their athletic goals. Sad but true when you consider that athletics will help fund post-secondary education for some. And with them goes the future of WG athletics.

So, a student athlete is supposed to give up the game they love to play because their adult coach isn't mature enough to teach & coach the game without continually screaming and yelling at the student. Really? That's really the argument you want to use here?
It's not the fault of the 14-16 y.o. girls that the school board and the administration stuck their head in the sand for way too long and let Ted treat these girls the way he has. It's my opinion that the board and admin need replaced as well for allowing it to happen for this long. But that's another argument probably best made somewhere other than here.
I may not agree with the way that these girls handled the situation (quitting mid season), but how much do you have to ask these girls to endure.
I know there have been some of his former players on here supporting him. But I know I have personally talked to some that literally hated basketball after 4 years of JV & Varsity with Ted. MANY Other girls that have given up the game before exhausting their eligibility, because of Ted.
I don't think all the coaches need to worry about being forced to resign as long as they treat their players reasonably. Coaches need to yell at players sometimes, I get that. But if you do it the right way, mixed in with positive feedback and actual teaching, you might get better results and not have to be looking over your shoulder all the time.
As to your comment about athletes leaving WG to further their athletic goals, let them go. We want student athletes at WG that want to be the best that they can be as a TEAM with their classmates/friends. We don't want those selfish individuals that don't give a damn about their friends and give a collective 'screw you' as they run off into the sunset seeking that scholarship. Work hard, attend the right camps and if you actually have the talent, the colleges will find you, even in waynesfield.
It may be difficult to find quality coaches. But you can lay that on the shoulders of the admin and board for allowing this situation to escalate to this point.

Then recall the B of E, fired the administration if they were not able to figure this out after a few years. They work for the school district. Who elects these people? Why do kids go to school? What kind of teacher was this guy or was he a walk-on. Students who play sports in HS put in a lot of time, but when you are yelled at and put down, why play? Schools are for kids, parents support their kids, so parents need keep an eye on their schools, if you think something is not right, you try to change it. Let's quit blaming the kids and the parents. It is their job to raise thier kids. They need new blood in the girls' program, start with someone unknown to the area. AMEN

Well said Von. I agree, stop blaming the kids. They have taken enough. There have been parents that have tried to make change happen. Thanks to the admin and most of the board, they didnt get far.
Ted isnt a teacher. He used to work at PTC in Lima. I believe he works at the hospital in Bellefontaine now. Which if you believe the rumor mill is an interesting story in its self, but again, probably not a story for the corner.

Thats a very good question mystery. Considering the asst is also the guidance counselor, you would have thought he would have kept Ted in line and protected these girls.
So many questions I'm sure will go unanswered.
With that being said, atleast Ted is out. Some may not fully support the new alternative, there has been some change. Janet is a sweetheart that will treat the girls with the respect they deserve. I cannot speak on her coaching ability. If she is lacking, Foley should be able to help.
The key to success here is keeping Ted away from these girls. If he gets any where near the bench during a game, sits in the stands and yells at the girls or gets anywhere near the gym before, during or after practice, he must be removed.

Defintly kick his @$$ out.
He is now just a spectator and if a spectator yells or screams they can get kicked out.

We decided ( Kessler`s parents) that enough was enough, are duaghter was not enjoying the game, she was very frustrated, and misserable with what was going on, this was decided over a period of 10-14 days.I could write a book on what has went on the last 4 years, it doesnt matter now.Her coach told her he didn`t need her, he could win with out her, quit the team, and a few other choice words after a game, things didn`t let up.Her father and I went and informed the principle she was done, and the reasons why, it was brief and to the point. We asked for nothing from the school to be done, nothing from the board to be done.My daughter has worked her tail off for him and any coach or team she has played for, school teams, club teams , and she continues to put 25 hours a week in now for JO VB and core training.
Everyone is entitled to there opionions, everyone!
She will continue to play club sports, and we will continue as parents to surround her with suppotive, and knowlegable coaches and enjoy watching are girls play the sports they chosse to participate in.
I didnt want to turn my post into a finger pointing or bashing, just give a little insight. Also we had no clue the other girl was leaving the team, till after the fact, just to be clear

I enjoyed reading your post [If it's correct family] and understand what you and your family have experienced. I am with you 100% on everything except not playing bb again for Waynesfield. If that is the case---my assumption. AAU basketball and AAU volleyball are good things with the correct team. But, there are experiences [good ones] that she will miss by not being a part of a school team. The purpose and goals from AAU to school ball are completely different and both important to development. All I can say, is unless she is a major college recruit, I KNOW there are college programs who would look at an athlete who doesn't play school ball and have some doubt. In the college recruiting game, SOME DOUBT, may go along ways to seeing another girl get the offer. Don't know what her goals are, but wanted to bring this angle to the discussion because it could become relevant. Now, I assure you that most if not all AAU people would scream NO WAY to my opinion. Maybe they are correct, but I have been around the basketball part of AAU at the highest level and I firmly believe she needs hs basketball for many reasons in her development. I have no dog in this fight and don't care about WG girls basketball. Have not been to any of their games this year, but did see them play multiple times in Bluffton this summer. My only reason for posting this post, believe it or not, is the welfare of the the student athlete in question. If I have offended anyone or your family, that was not my intention. I wish you guys and everyone involved in this issue the best and hope the community pulls together for the benefit of all. There are no winners resulting from this situation, but there could be a chance that all involved give a little and better times could lie ahead. LJ
