It would be interesting to see what the "true" cost of Hardin Northern's decision will be. Leipsic gives up a home game AND now jumps on a bus for 4+ hours. Their fans (who choose to go) will easily have a $100 trip (gas + tickets + food).

The penalty applies only to gate receipts.

Still applies right, because Leipsic gave up a home game yes?

They just go by a divisor of 9 instead of 10. It actually could help a team and in this case it probably would seeing how teams wouldn't get much from beating HN.

Don't forget the 2nd level divisor because that's where the real difference is made. As it stands now, if no one else finds a game, the 2nd level divisors would be: 100 for Ada, 95 for Arlington/Leipsic/Van Buren/Vanlue, and 86 for Arcadia/Cory Rawson/LB/McComb/PG. It is especially beneficial for schools like LB and McComb because it could mean the difference between having a home game or hitting the road in Week 11.

That should be good computer points for Ada, considering they wouldn't get much from HN. East Clinton will be D4 and probably pick up a few wins over larger schools, so good secondary points. I don't know much about East Clinton lately outside of their numbers issue for players. Ada should win, but who knows with all the changes and new faces over there. They are going to need all the points they can get being in the new D6.
If Ada wins??

I think HN got off easy. They have to pay an average for lost gate receipts, but look at the other costs. Leipsic loses a home game which I would assume means they stil have to pay the officials because they were under contract. Not included in the gate receipts is some portion of season ticket holders and now the expense of traveling. I sure hope HN administration is not under the illusion that all will be forgiven.

The conference should act now to allow Riverdale to play the BVC schedule in place of Hardin Northern in 2014 instead of beginning in 2015.

Oh I guarantee they are! That's how those people role. No regard for anybody but themselves, and there personal agendas! Hopefully from what I m hearing this will change this fall. Here's an idea also when making HN pay they should go on gate receipts from the Brunow years instead of the last three. But I got a better idea for HN collectively pull up your man pants and play! What a community, alumni, past administration, athletes built over the last 40 years in a conference has been shredded apart Ina matter of months. Kudos to the present board of education and superintendent. Hope you can live with yourselves.

To blame the superintendent and BOE is a joke. You want to blame somebody? Blame the kids for not stepping up to the plate and being committed to playing and for making excuses for why they can't do this or that. And blame their parents for enabling their excuses and blaming the coach or whomever when something goes wrong. The FACT is that a lot of people in that community, yourself included, are in denial about why things have gone completely down the *******. It is YOUR fault - period, You want all the positive, hunky-dory results, but aren't willing to put forth the concerted effort required to reach them.

Leipsic didn't have to lose a home game. They coulda held out for a home game.

After this fiasco, I think you'll see schools with low numbers looked at much differently.

As we can clearly see, finding an opponent on a certain week isn't as easy as many would think. Most schools have their games scheduled way in advance. The only other option would be to just wait and see if another really small program would have to bail on their season once it got started and that's just luck.

You don't get it. They knew the kids weren't going to step up in January, and waited to June. Don't preach t me ericles about a concerted effort put forth I've been there done that with the hunky dory results to follow. There are no kids in the top two grades as stated. Culpability lies somewhere and to me it all starts at the top.

I agree that the admin. Knew this a LONG time ago. The Super was to afraid of the public out-cry. He did however, try and get the kids and the parents to step up and many failed.
