Since both Wayne & Engel are retire - rehires, their teaching contracts were non renewed. They are paid as step 5 teachers, and the board wants to save money by replacing them with first year teachers. That is really kind of a weak excuse since the savings aren't all that much. I think the board still has interest in Wayne coaching basketball, but he is not happy with the way this was handled and may be making other plans. This was a very short sighted decision by the board since it has really ticked off the loyalist of supporters of the school, those who have lead efforts to keep the school and ensured that every school levy issue in the past 50 years has passed. This might result in short term savings, but is a long term disaster. They are killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Holgate's Board decision may lead to a Napoleon type situation. Napoleon has historically had issues with passing levies, teacher - board conflicts. You may not like Wayne's coaching style, but the residents, teachers, administration, and board have always worked together to support the school, at least up to now.

If he is in fact set on doing both tben I see the BOE going in a different direction. For the number of wins the man has he also has to have tbe lowest ppg. avg.... ..

And Ike is correct, the story I read was that the three coaches/teachers in question would command a $49K salary if re-hired vs. $33K for a level one teacher. Feedback I'm hearing from people in the school district is that if the BOE want the levy to pass in the Fall, they may want to re-think their position...but refer back to my opening comment for that one

These is a board meeting on May 20, so I guess those who would like Coach Wayne to stay have until then to convince the BOE to keep him, otherwise this meeting may be the one where the reignation is accepted.
Unless the Tigers find a suitable replacement you can expect Holgate's boys basketball program to drop to the levels of mediocrity, or worse.

Any fans who would rather lose 70-65 then win 30-28 aren't really fans. And come on, he was talking about Fairview. What do kids looking to get to college have to do with Fairview? Have you seen the kids they have?

Not sure if that job posting is indicative of Wayno not being back. Tying the AD job to a teaching position is fairly common. The coaching position would be a seperate supplemental contract, no?
