Why would Bluffton join the NWC? Plus their former AD Jim Raabe was just named Commish of the NWC replacing Mike Mullen. I think this happened a couple of months ago.

I think its going to be tough to lure any of the NWC schools away.

All the NWC schools have upgraded facilities for football even though Paulding could still due some work to their lockerroom for the visiting team. Plus, all but Delphos have a newer gym for basketball.

First of all, I hope that the BOE does not disappoint the district residents on this vote. Next, I almost have to say a small "I told you so" about the way this whole process went, and the fact that the BVC should not give up on sending Riverdale an invitation...regardless of the absence of any paperwork showing that we had "interest in joining." That was not really something we could oblige to at that time and in those circumstances. If anyone knows the history of Riverdale at all, you would realize that we have tried at least twice to join, only to get voted down by a few schools...so the interest has been there for years (at least on our part).

It's really too bad the whole NCC expansion/breakup went the way it did. If all of the NCC drama would have never happened, I believe we would have seen Riverdale jumping at the opportunity when NB and H-L joined. Riverdale was in a very touchy situation then, and I'm sure we will add more schools to the list that won't like us too well if/when we exit the N10. It's really a kind of sad, yet very exciting development.

I would absolutely love to see Carey come along with us, but probably not gonna happen, since they seem to be joined at the hip with Mohawk. This is 40+ years overdue, in my opinion (as far as a geographic fit goes). In the early years, the NCC was a much better conference, but in recent years, the BVC has been very competitive...and that is what ultimately prepares teams for the post-season. I hope that Riverdale is still able to keep ties to some of the NCC/N10 opponents we have played for years.

I really look forward to having bigger gates at conference games. Believe me, Riverdale will not disappoint host schools when it comes to bringing fans.

I couldn't agree more with these three statements Falcon.

Didn't Ada inquire or indicate interest? I think Carey wouldn't be a bad add as they are close to or in D3 in some sports and seem competitive in most sports. Although, I would like to see them get a new gym/school as their gym bleachers suck.

As much sense as it makes, I can't see Carey leaving this N10 marriage (and Mohawk).
Always a watchful eyes on those Tiffin Calvert Senecas, Marion Local Flyers, Fort Loramie Redskins , New Albany Eagles.

Riverdale will be just fine in the BVC, there are enough bottomfeeders they'll probably have a more overall successul athletic program.

Don't know why Elmwood would even want to.

North Baltimore is a great fit for the BVC. With the rail yard, I look for this district to grow some the next decade. Very few BVC schools/ communities are growing, or even can grow.

Some things I'm curious about...how do P-G and Leipsic handle being in 2 leagues in basketball, softball, baseball, etc.? Won't there will be 13 BVC games and 9 PCL games for each of these schools? That pretty much fills the schedule, doesn't it? Will the P-G/Leipsic game count for both leagues? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Congratulations! :)

There's only 8 teams in the PCL so Leipsic and PG will have 20 league games. Nothing against Riverdale, but I would have preferred it for Leipsic's sake to stay at 12 teams. Two non-league games won't be enough. Leipsic has developed nice rivalries throughout the years with Patrick Henry and Holgate, and recently the games with OG have been great, especially this year with such a close team between two teams that made the state finals. Add in Ayersville (who I don't really consider a non-league rival, but they've been playing them every year since long before I was a student) and Leipsic is going to have to cut ties with schools that they have had long relations with.

12 would have been great to solve the football scheduling problems but now I feel like the league is getting too large to handle both leagues.

Maybe there could be a way to get Grove as the 14th team in the BVC, and have the games with PG and Grove count for both leagues at once, which would still leave room for 4 non-conference games.

If I remember and heard correctly, when all of this came out awhile back, Ada along with other schools, received a letter of interest from the BVC to see if anyone was interested in possibly joining the BVC. What I was told and my understanding is Ada did fill out the form just to see what the BVC had to offer. Ada did not inquire about joining the BVC other than the courtesy reply. Could be wrong but think this is the way it went down

Ada did a little more than that... they attended an informational meeting/presentation with the wheels and big whigs of the BVC.

I would guess Leipsic and PG could care less if the BVC gets any bigger. My concern is how long until Vanlue and Hardin Northern give it up? Or maybe with 12 teams, the league can force out Vanlue and HN. You can't go into every season wondering week by week if these schools will have enough healthy bodies.

These schools have never had to cancel a game because they didn't have enough kids, so why does everyone insist on bringing up the notion of kicking them out of the league?

Exactly...attended and listened to see what the BVC had to offer..as I stated in numerous other threads/posts concerning this topic

So- you are saying I am right? (Sorry for the clarification but it has been so long since I have been right about anything that I need confirmation. 16 years of marriage will do that to ya.)

^^^^ lol yep.....I am saying though..people have tried to insinuate that Ada approached the BVC expressing an interest in joining while I am saying Ada answered the BVC inquiry..no big deal either way

Its not just those two... Its getting harder for other schools to field a full compliment of basketball teams, baseball/softball numbers shinking, etc.

As long as kids can text, play video games, or get a job @ McDonald's, they don't need sports...

When I was a kid we had 2 JH BB teams and a freshman BB team. We had about 45 on the boys' track team, plus JV and Varsity baseball the same season. Freshman never played varsity ball, because there were freshman teams...including football. Kids have lost the desire to participate in extra-curricular activities.
