Let me preface this by saying that I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to what is, or is not, NBA talent........But I would say yes, he is probably good enough, lol.

He has offers from WV, Purdue and Boston College and is rated a 3 star (out of 5) so he seems to have a future as a D1 baller....but at the end of the day he is a 6-5 white shooting guard so you may want to hold up on spending the NBA money for a little while.

This kid can score the ball as good as anyone I've ever seen. He could score it last year as a sophomore as well. We're already seeing what this young man is capable of as a junior in high school and if that isn't enough , watch him play AAU. The kid is dynamite and may have the best range shooting the ball of anybody in the state and possibly across the country. That I do not know but if you can bring me a high school ball player that can step out and shoot the 25-30 footers like he can , please do. All I'm saying is in today's game, you're seeing more and more vital "white guys" on NBA teams (Novak , redick, Nash, Blake, etc...). Most of which have the purse stroke in the game. I'm not asking if he will be the next Lebron ...that's obvious. I just feel like if anyone has a shot of going big time out of our area, it's gotta be Dakota.

alot of people "felt" their cousin John Doe Baller would be in the NBA, feelings are illogical, as is trying to predict a HS players prospects at an NBA future. Mathias has a pure jumper, great court vision and can dish as well as anyone in our area...but he is not the second coming.

a little more size on him and continues to improve, Xavier Simpson has the potential to a great player from this area also. I'm certainly not an LCC shill, but I say that to show a couple of local youngsters could make an impact at the NCAA level... anything further than that, is a guess.

John Diebler was a much, much better all around player than Mathias (at this point at least)....and he's not in the NBA. How can you say Mathias is the best jump-shooter in the country. How many people have you seen outside of this area?

The thing that makes mathias such a great player is his basketball IQ. One of the smartest basketball players I have personally seen. Along with that the kid can stroke. I can't wait to see what a good college program can do with Dakota in further developing his skills. Only downfall I see is his lack of speed may be a concern in college.

Nothing against Purdue, West Virgina and Boston College, but if this kid was future NBA material, I'd think Ohio State, Indiana and Kentucky would be on the list?? And maybe he's got some interest in those schools and they've not committed as of yet?

I disagree with this. Jon Diebler was an average shooter in H.S. He was very talented, but scored a lot because his dad was the coach and he had the green light to shoot 40 times a game. Dakota is a better shooter and passer as a junior in H.S. than Diebler was. I would also rate Mathias as a better ball handler. Much of Diebler's success resulted from coaching philosphy and style of play. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Jon Diebler, but I think Mathias is more talented at the same stage of their careers. Just my opinion. I'm not going to comment on the NBA thing. It is way to early for that.

Maybe he is. Most likely he isn't. But let's let the kid at least get through high school first............

Fact is, there are almost 350 division 1 schools in the NCAA. Factor in 5 starters on each, and there's almost 2000 kids starting in D1 every year. Now I understand most are at schools that get not attention and will never even get noticed by an NBA scout....but every once in a while a small school kid comes up and ends up a lottery pick, so we can't just count them all out. So that's almost 2000 kids fighting to get drafted every year.....for 60 draft spots. And that's not even factoring in all the international players that are draft eligible and decide to come out. The odds are simply against him. Even if he becomes a great D1 player, the odds are against him.

I hope he gets there, but let's not get ahead of ourselves before the kid even steps foot on a college floor.

Akron is a good fit for Mathias.
