So sorry that I ruffled a few feathers when I suggested that Usher stick to his music and leave girls basketball to "the experts".....
all of the girls that have been mentioned are deserving.........but if he were to say "I contacted some local coaches"
this would have made more sense..........and not knowing who Usha asked to be a part of this poll I have my doubts on the results.....

I'd have to find the article again but from memory I think it said it was the sports staff that put the list together.
Go Bath Wildcats and Wildkittens! Go Ohio State!

I'm pretty sure Vanessa did not reach 2,000 points. I don't think any player, boy or girl, in the 6 county NW OH area (Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding or Putnam) has ever reached 2,000 points. Dan Neff - Ayersville, Vanessa Rothman - Holgate, Jenni Heisler - Edgerton, Fritz - Farmer in 1940's, all scored over 1,900. There may be others. Vanessa also played in over 100 varsity games - a rare achievement, so did Dan Neff.

Vanessa Rothman (Holgate)--1,908 career points

in today's Lima News they have taken a very proactive approach to the way that the boys top 25 is presented...........
they spell out the areas that are included......
they mention that Craft, Hyde, Roethlisberger, etc are not included because they aren't in "the Lima News coverage area"

I guess that they have been reading the RC and thought it prudent to explain themselves before the maelstrom inevitably hits
home to the "Flounder & Rocketman's" Girls HS rankings

The Hicks girl and there was another one ( cant remember her name ) on those USV teams that scored over 1000 points also. (Along with the Hurly girl.) Those were fun games to watch! Even being from a neighboring school. Two 1000 point scorers out of the same class isnt totally uncommon, but 3 is probably not been done to many times! They would have smoked alot of boys teams.

Sue Youngpeter -- 1245 points -- 1976-79

Jeanne Arnzen -- 1085 points -- 1976-79

Didnt say it had never been done or that it was the first time ot had been done. Just saying that 3 1000is point scores from the same graduating class is /would be rare.

The worst boys teams in the area would blow-out the best girls teams in the area. The difference in athleticism, strength, and speed is staggering.

And 99% of the time I would agree with this. But THAT team was the 1%. No i didnt go to school there and no I didnt have family or a relative on that team.

Do I think they could have beaten a boys team that won 10-15 +games? No. But under that 10 win total.... lets just say Id have liked to seen if they could have, and leave it at that. Agree or disagree with it I dont care... I'm not going to turn this into a jr hi $issing contest.
Your entitled to yours as am I.

I would take this year's Ottoville girl's team over this year's Bettsville boy's team. Probably would put money on that. :whistling:

Here's a good article on Convoy Crestview's Jackie Motycka---arguably the best women's player in BGSU history and a MAC Legend.
Boy, she was special!!
She even gives a shout out to Delphos St Johns and her coach Fran Voll.

I know it's not in the counties you listed but Allen County has at least one, Lisa Bradley from Bath (2015 career points).

she was outside of the 25 year window for the article, though.

so in retrospect, I'm not rally adding anything to this thread :D

I believe HH75 was referring to Tonya Burkett (tall girl that could dribble, shoot inside and the three ball) and LeAnn Hicks (Cleveland State setting some 3 point shooting records while there) along with Gwen Hurley. All three with well over 1,000 points.

Another great player that played at Holgate in the early 90's was Nicole Like. She went on to play at Xavier. Both her and Vanessa Rothman were only 5' 2" tall maybe.
