Good or bad? Any opinion of how it will effect us in the long run?

Bad, everytime there is an increase in the minimum wage, jobs are lost, and the price of goods go up.

Anyone with even a shred of economic cognizance realizes this is a terrible idea with disastrous consequences. Guaranteed inflation, guaranteed job losses, guaranteed increase in persons living below the poverty line, etc etc etc. Dependence on social programs is an an all-time high right now and this is a maneuver to bring more people onto the welfare rolls to ensure as many people possible feel pigeonholed into voting for candidates who support Obama in order to keep their government assistance.

It is nothing more than a "pretty idea" aimed at enticing the mindless masses to support the failed agenda of one of the greatest failures ever to occupy the Oval Office.

Short, sweet, and to the point. Couldn't have said it any better myself.

I'm not that smart - we probably need jeffcatbucki or bluejay to explain to us how this is going to create jobs and spur on the economy.

I agree with both above post. People seem to forget businesses are in business to make money not just to give people jobs. So they are going to still turn a profit so if labor goes up then the only way to make money is to Charge comsumers more or cut back employees and benefits.

I also, don't think anyone who wasn't doing an 8.00 /hr job. Isn't going to do the same job for $9.00.

It also limits an small time employer from handing out as many raises to good employees if they have to hire people in a more maximum level to begin with.
This is just bad for mom and pop business, and restuarants.

And this is the major problem in Washington. The man in charge has never run a business before. Doesn't know how it works. The only way this works is to give company's big tax breaks so they can afford to pay their employees. We all know that the cost of benefits are going up due to mandated health care. So where's this money coming from???

And if he can't give the big companies tax breaks, because he has been compaigning that the Higher 1% needs to pay more, and he wants to cut the breaks the republicans were giving the big businesses.

I was in a Wendy's a while back listening to workers complain about what they were making. The girl working the register contended her job was worth "at least $20 an hour" while talking to someone working the deep fat fryer and ignoring the fact I was waiting to place an order. After waiting a minute or two listening to their contentions about how hard their jobs were as they stood around ignoring customers, she finally took my order. While assembling my order, she forgot the fries. I reminded her of my fries. She said "Oh", went back to the fryer and returned to tell me that she'd bring them out to me. Time passed. I listening to more of their complaining about how they all deserved more than the $8 an hour or whatever it was they were receiving while standing around in a pack, all the while watching the fries be removed from the fryer and prepared for serving. Five more minutes passed. No fries. Finally, I walked up to ask when she was going to bring my fries. She said "oh" again and turned to the fryer, saw fries, and told me she'd bring them right out. She then proceeded to fill a fry container and stand there holding it while she complained more.

I eventually got my fries, but it was pretty clear that most of those employees were overpaid...

Dull, I think its pretty clear that employee has no idea what work really is all about. She will be on public assist within a few years!!!

My thoughts are the same as those above. This min wage raise is going to hurt us and hurt us bad. What gets me is, so many people know it....how does the Goverement not know it???

Somehow I think this will be yet another nail in the coffin of small business who as a whole is struggling to survive right now anyways.

Nothing yet from either of these 2 to tell us we are wrong and to explain why this is a good thing?

I have worked all my life. I believe if you are unemployed nothing should be given to you. No food stamps, no unemployment check, NOTHING. Now, if you are willing to go work those minimum wage jobs, I would gladly support the govt helping pay for skilled job training and maybe even money to pay some rent or heat etc......as long as you stay employed. NO WORK, NO EAT would be my platform if I ran for PRESIDENT.

I doubt flounder has a larger family. Throw in my practicing Catholicism and the fact that I have 'All-American' in my name...

BINGO!!! I am your guy!

No work, no eat!

I will need plenty of campaign money. Both seem qualified. I will let the $$$$$$$ talk. My first executive order will be to mandate school prayer in schools, return paddling to schools, and eliminate the ACLU either by pen or drone, whichever will work.

President LJ

Since mandating school prayer somewhere other than schools is an option???

And here I was hoping for a mandate of school prayer in the line for a strip club...
