Question: Does Ottoville have a girls JV team? If so, do they have a lot more girls in their school than boys?

This was discussed on the boys thread. Probably one difference, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that there is no CYO ball for girls. The boys actually have a avenue to still play ball without the practices and other commitments. That said, I'm sure Coach Kleman has a fantastic youth program where all those elementary girls are being exposed to basketball at a young age and THAT's how you keep a program strong.

I believe there is girls CYO but might not be as popular as the boys. The boys high school program is in a rebuilding period. Not to mention the former coach turned a lot of boys off of wanting to play - hence the bigger CYO program.

The girls youth program is and has been very strong for most of Coach K's 20+ years at Ottoville and one of the main reasons is he and the other coaches put in countless hours during basketball season and in the summer showing their kids the right way to play basketball. Also, success at the high school level tends to grow interest in the younger kids. Going to state ever 3-4 years usually breeds a whole new crop of girls who want to do the same thing.

Nothing coming up like Siefker but there are several girls on the JV that will be ready to battle inside. The team as a whole will be much quicker.

Last year's JV went 19-1 and has only lost one game (to OG) this year.

There is a girls CYO team and always has been. A few years ago they made it to "state" CYO.

Von, the 7th & 8th grade girls teams are both very competitive and athletic, and yes there is more height coming up! Hard to tell if they'll grow as tall as 6'2 though. And the last Siefker ball player is for the Big Green; her younger brother who plays for the 7th grade team.

Thanks for the update, I think the Big Green are in great shape for the next few years. I was in Ottoville in July for my (50th) ouch, reunion & at the church fair, with Fr. John, but no one shared with me the up and comming younger Lady Green. That makes me proud.

Just guessing, Was their last home loss against Minster when Ottoville was ranked No. 1 in the state?

Not sure who they last lost to in the regular season to be honest but I'll look it up and get back to you.

Another thing I found interesting that I recently heard is that Ottoville coaches can't remember when they last lost at home.........they're thinking 2005 against Miller City.

If I am correct Ottoville's last home loss was against Delphos Jefferson on January 29, 2011.

Ottoville lost to Minster in Jan 07 32-35. if I am right that makes it around 46 straight home games.
