If a kid from say Lima Senior wanted to switch schools, fine, take that share of "public" dollars and chose another public school that offers a better education. There are what, 4, public schools that surround Lima City schools that offer better educational opportunities.Pick 1 of them. ( and again, I have no idea where those 4 schools stand on the standarizes testing)

They do and by the hundreds.

The Non-Catholics are Not there on a weekly basis, unless they are married to a Catholic.

How do you know that?

How do you know that?

Why would they attend on a weekly basis?

Flounder, I applaud you and others who have financed DSJ. My hat is off to you. I also applaud you for voting for the public levy. Now this is where we differ. You chose to send your kids to DSJ, so you should support it. You also CHOSE to be in Delphos City School District, so dont come back and say your tax dollars support a public school. They do but again you chose to live in that district and that is part of that choice. I should NOT however help support a private school ( and please people I do not hate privates) with tax dollars going to said private. The state board is so screwed up on how to run schools, i know another argument, but vouchers is NOT the answer. If a kid from say Lima Senior wanted to switch schools, fine, take that share of "public" dollars and chose another public school that offers a better education. You and others here ( and other chat boards I frequent) from private schools bemoan the fact that enrollment is dropping in a lot of private schools. I understand that...but do not use tax dollars to boost your enrollment.
I will be the 1st to say that throwing money at schools is not the answer to public education woes, but to take monies away is definitely not the answer.

ADog......

I think we are both pretty much on the same page here.....and I think you misunderstood what I said....my kids attending a private school was my choosing....I should pay....and I do not expect to get money from the public school system.....I also feel that I should support the public school system.....and I do by voting for all levies......my biggest complaint is this.....if the privates can vote to support the levy....why in the hell can't the publics....after all, they are the people who benefit.....and believe me when I say that most public schools throw their money away!!!!!!!!!

Gotcha....yes I agree 100% that publics need to pass levies, but in long run, the state needs fix school funding like they were ordered to do by the courts years ago(and building all these new schools is not "fixing" the problem). I thought you were backing vouchers. Vouchers to private schools (Catholic, Luthern, Charters, etc), in my eyes are wrong. Vouchers are the same thing "fiscal conservative" politicians are against....taking public dollars to support private individulas( in this case schools)

You didn't answer the question posed to you initially. How do you know non- Cathollics don't attend Mass on a weekly basis unless they're married to a Catholic?? I know of several that do, and many more that have in the past. Some have converted to Catholicism, and some have not, but they've attended often, if not weekly.

I guess it just doesn't make sense to me, unless the person is considering converting. Maybe I am looking at it different/wrong though.
