Basketball Season is FINALLY in sight!

Opening weekend is VERY near. Paulding opens on the road at Continental on Friday (Nov. 30), followed by another away game the following Saturday (Dec.1) at Antwerp. The Paulding group stayed extremely basketball active in the off-season, I have very high expectations for this years group and I don't see them having any issues in their opening weekend, I believe Paulding will jump out to a fast 2-0 start.

Anybody agree or disagree?

Not familiar with what the antwerp team is doing this year but I know continental always shows up to play. But I agree that paulding will be more then a handful for either team. No reason paulding shouldnt walk away with 2 wins under there belt early.

I think it'll be a pretty good season in Paulding this year considering how young they were last year. I think they'll go 2-0 opening weekend as well but going to Continental is never easy no matter how good they are.

I look forward to our season opener in Paulding the next week. With everything the Panthers have back and everything we lost it should be a great game this year.

I too think that Paulding will win the first two games of the year. Continental, though they have one of the best coaches in the area in Kevin Homier coming back to patrol the sidelines, just doesn't have the weapons that they are used to having year in and year out in Pirate country. Continental will play scrappy and physical, as they always do, but I think Paulding will ultimately make enough shots to win a game that probably will end up being a 6 or 7 point affair.

As for the Saturday county matchup, Antwerp's size makes me a little curious about what they bring to the table, but Scott McMichael has a pretty young team this year and I think Paulding's experience will give them the edge. Margin of victory: probably around 9 or 10, but I could be wrong.

Great comments PHSfan, I think the margin of victory will be slightly larger in both games but you make very good points, but this is the ONE concern I have about Paulding this year. Instead of running up the score and finishing teams off when they have the chance, Coach always seems to make early subs and lets teams hang around. I'm just hoping with this years deep bench these types of choices won't be such an issue. I hope these boys come out and make a huge statement this coming weekend! CAN'T WAIT!

Creatingballers, you seem to know an awful lot about this Panther team. I like your optimism concerning this season. Just curious what your vantage point is.

I wonder what he is going to say when Paulding lays a egg, and ends up a .500 or below team.

Haha! .500? That's insulting yourself, to say this team is going to go 11-11 doesn't even make sense, you obviously have no clue what they have this year.

Bleacherman, I do know this Paulding team very well, and my only point is that people always count Paulding out, and every once in a great while they will get a group that has the potential to make alot of noise, and with this years depth, talent and pure athletic ability, I truly believe it can be one of the best years Paulding Basketball has witnessed. The great thing about it, only 4 more days and people can start listening with their eyes instead of their ears.

I have to side with "Badlands" on this one, Paulding has had groups with potential over the past 50 years or so. None seem to live up to it. Start planning your excuses.

No excuses needed, like I've said a million times before, I couldn't care any less about previous years, I am only speaking up for this years group. But yes you have a valid point that previous Paulding teams haven't lived up to the expectations, but I have no idea how whatever happened in 1962 (50 years ago) has anything to do with this years 2012 team. I also have no idea how this topic started out asking how everybody thought the Panthers would do opening weekend to Pauldings lack of success in the last 50 years.

Just a few more days until Tip-Off..........

Well creatingballers and caldwell, you both have short memories. Two years ago Paulding had a team of Bermejo, Pease and company that ended with an impressive 17-6 record, (impressive for a Paulding team). That team swept all 6 GMC teams they played including the GMC champion, and only had 2 conference losses in a rather strong NWC. All their losses came to teams that went far into the tourneys. Second best record in Paulding history and best record in 50 years. So at least one past team has lived up to expectations. Now this years team does have alot of speed, talent and athleticism. We'll just have to see what happens starting Friday night at the Pirate Cove. I truly hope that all of Creatingballers hopes and expections come true.

Haha, I don't play for Paulding, just a big fan of basketball. And bleacherman, I didn't forget the group that Paulding had 2 years ago, I just didn't find it quite as impressive as the rest of the town. Like you said, it was impressive for Paulding, but that's about it. Don't get me wrong they also had a great group and I would never take anything away from the kids, what they did was an awesome accomplishment, but I don't think the town should be satisfied, they need hunger in the town, people, coaches, players, fans all need to strive for more and stop settling. I know the group 2 years ago had a heck of a season compared to what Paulding is use to, I just believe this years group has the pure potential to take it to the next level. But, it's one game at a time, and I'm anxious to see what happens Friday night.....

Paulding was up by 21 in the 4th quarter and coasted to a great 12 point victory! Didn't look too bad for an opening night, they look like they got the nerves shook out, and they will be ready to get back at it tomorrow night! PAULDING PANTHERS 1-0

If the sectional assignments stay as they were last season..........and this is looking waaaaay ahead, the Defiance sectional looks to be strong with Wayne Trace and Paulding probably nailing down the top 2 seeds.

I sure hope you're right, Falcon, but you're forgetting that Ottawa-Glandorf is also in that sectional. All the preseason hype I've heard makes me think that the Titans will probably take that top seed and the Paulding county rivals will be fighting for the 2nd

Maybe..........but it sounds like Paulding may be an unstoppable force, I mean beating Continental by 12 at the Cove is quite an accomplishment. OG and Wayne Trace may have to play early on to determine who may potentially play Paulding in the district final.

I wish Paulding and OG still played in the regular season like they used to not that long ago. It would really help as a barometer for the teams season and give the kids a chance to play arguably the best team in the area.

Yes, because it was such a competitive matchup over the years.......I bet OG would love to play Paulding this year to see how they stack up against the big boys in the area.
