I remember thinking in both 2010 AND 2012 watching an 0-4 Defiance take on a 1-3 St. Marys(the year they both finished 1-9) and then a 1-4 Defiance take on an 0-5 St. Marys just how much things can change overnight in HS football. I'm just thankful our program at least still seems competitive. St. Marys is a mess right now. Kinda hard to watch knowing what they were for decades before this.

Much like Defiance, Saint Marys has undergone quite a demographic shift - this is why you are seeing the shift in the kids that are out for the sport.

As much as you and many other Hardin county fans hate Dave, he does posses an abundant amount of knowledge when it comes to HS and college sports. Many past and present college athletes give great thanks to him because he puts their name out there in the college spotlight.

H&H, 1)I do not hate Dave...I don't hate anyone. Now I may hate methodsyes. If he wants to be a reporter and report on sports great!. Do it, just don't come on sites like this and link an article to "his" site passing it off as his work, but when you go to the site, you are redirected to the original article on another site. If he wants respect don't pass off others works as your own.
2) me being from Hardin county has nothing to do with my dislike for his ways.I really could not care what conference Kenton was in and that is my point. He should noteeither, but he comes across as the know all on what is best for Kenton and other schools. If they want out or the other schools inthe WBL want them out, fine. He is just strirring up crap and still willl not answer why he wants them out of the WBL.
3) If he really is helping highschool players get recongnition..fantastic..my hat is off to him. but to do so to prop himself up is wrong

The thing about the field…the old field was within walking distance for quite a few people. There were also locally owned businesses that did a good food and drink business before and after games. Now-there may be on or 2 houses within walking distance….and those local small businesses are going to lose customers to BW3's and the chain restaurants out that way.

The old field days are numbered. It's time for the community to step up and get the new field completed. It will be a big asset to the Riders and the rest of the WBL.

As someone who played in the WBL, I really enjoyed going on the road at two stadiums: Memorial and Elida

As crazy as it sounds, I loved the guys up on the tracks swearing at me and throwing rocks ... amused me and made me want to play.

Elida was fun because the stands were basically right on top of you, and when I played (late 90's) you were guaranteed a win ;)

I would have been interested to see what a renovation of that field, with field turf, would have looked like. There is something to be said for tradition and history, but times are changing, and a lot of schools are trying to do what they can to upgrade as soon as possible.

If they make the stadium look like they planned. They could easily hold playoff games there which could benefit the school and it's booster clubs. WIth Wapak, St.Mary's, and Lima. That would make 3 quality places to hold tourney games.

That link should work. Shows the current progress of the field. Loooong way to go yet. Very poorly planned. Think about this - No one in St Marys wanted to move the field. They love their current location. LOVE it. So the board/boosters build a new field with current funds. St Mary's people start to grumble. They really don't want to move. So then the board/boosters come out and say "There, we got us this far with funds available. Time for you guys to pony up to finish this thing". Well, guess what? No one was lining up to donate to a new field that NO ONE wanted int eh first place! Like I said, they have a long way to go.

I would say their community needs to suck it up then and donate to complete it, instead of being stubborn and whining about how it was a bad idea to begin with. You have an opportunity to build a beautiful multi sport use turf complex with a new track next to your new school....take advantage of it instead of living on your memories of how things "should be" in your eyes St. Mary's fans/alum/boosters. Your other option is to sit back and cry about it while you continue to be an embarrassment in the state by just sitting by and watching a stagnant project/opportunity just sit there and rot away. Make the most of the opportunity that has presented itself, regardless of if you wanted it in the first place or not. I'm about an hour and half from St. Mary's with no ties and even I'm half tempted to donate some money towards it.

Yeah, it's something that all of us in the area would benefit from. MAC schools would/should love the thought of closer playoff locations. But it's not really up to any of us. It's up to the St Marys residents.
