I saw on the BOE minutes from Tuesday's meeting that Deb Stetler resigned...... up next???? Maybe a chant of "BRING BACK COACH SKINNER" is in order or will Elida go with yet another parent to be their next coach :shrug2: ???

She did the right thing. It's going to take a lot of work to get that program where it used to be. I've seen there team play from varsity on down to 7th grade and the future looks cloudy for Elida Girls BB.

I've heard a few places that the old Ottoville JV coach, Jeff Schimmoeller was in the mix. I'm not sure of the credibility of this as it was still during the season when I heard about it.

Not sure that would be a good hire. No head coaching experience.

Didn't know they had even started the hiring process. Let's hope the hiring committee does a better job this time.

Dawg66..... they haven't started the hiring process yet. It will probably be a little while as I'm sure this is not on the top of the list with the A.D. right now. With spring sports getting started, finishing up with the boys basketball success, etc. And I agree with you on the "committee"...... Elida is rich in tradition for girls basketball- grant it they have struggled in recent years but what would it take to get the success back? Discipline of the girls? the parents? the coach? more talent? more drive? better support? Who is going to step in? Who would want to step in?

Agree.
There needs to be someone who works there at the school who lives and dies girls' basketball for a few years to get things headed in the right direction. Not an easy task.

PCL..... I agree with the lives and die comment. However, the "works there at the school comment" that is what "the committee" has chosen the past 2 coaches and look at the end results.

Also, bballfanatic, previous Coach Stetler was not employed at Elida, except as a basketball coach.

Whoever takes this job had better take a long term view on when real success will reach this program. This will not turn around overnight.

You are correct about her not being employed THIS YEAR but a position was opening up for her soon. Plus her hubby is the band director so eyes were there at the school. But falcon... I do agree with you on this is not an expectation from the coach, players, PARENTS and administration that this will be an overnight turnaround. It all starts with attitude and discipline............... change the culture on those two things and the hard work, support, etc will all fall into place.

I don't think any established coach will want this rebuilding job in that community.

I don't know, but I think any coach with Ego would want the job. The building blocks need put in place, no doubt, but it was done once before in short order. I think Vicki Mauk was the coach.

I could see an established coach or a younger coach jumping at the chance. They will take their lumps early and often, but if they put the blocks together correctly, they could be very successful at Elida.

They have a lot of potential, but to reach that potential, and maintain success, the most important thing is a great administration. I don't know a lot about the details of how they operate at Elida, but it sure seems like their administration has botched quite a few issues involving athletics in the pretty recent past. Again, this is an outsiders view, but when your coaching interviews deal little with coaching basketball and more with the politics of the community and coaching, I'd say I'm not too far off.

whether the 'problem' there is the admin or some of the parents in that community (or a combination of the two), whomever takes the position better have more balls than a Chinese ping-pong tournament.

Ok has anyone heard who is in the running for the coaching position????? This program only has one way to go and that would be get better. Not the only girls sport not doing well. Got to get the winning drive in the girls.
