It is really amazing and sad what HS sports have become. Kids and parents really don't get it.
Here we have two contrasting posts. I happen to agree with the second one. Flounder is right that people will basically shut up about the jock that comes to their school, but ridicule when the jock goes anywhere else.
WHAT ABOUT STAYING PUT??
If kids just went to school (you know the place you go for an EDUCATION) where they lived, we wouldn't have this mess (that's what it has become). If kids wouldn't transfer for selfish reasons...if parents weren't out to get their kid the spotlight, there wouldn't be this greed that exists by the coaches and fans like we see on here. We have people from Ada, L-B, Arlington, and even a mention that there is interest coming from Akron to have this kid come to THEIR school to play for them. Why?...you don't have enough talent of your own? Are you that greedy?
It wasn't too long ago that we would have never really thought about this. It wouldn't have been an issue. The kid would have still played where he lived, and would have just played for a different coach. It seems like NOTHING is out the question any more, and everything and anyone is fair game. I don't like it.
It's one thing to have a family move into a district that happens to have a talented child. It's another thing to have the mentality that this is like college and pros.
It isn't...and it shouldn't be. This is high school. We need to let kids be kids. What's next? Should we start screening kids for athletic ability when they come into kindergarten? Maybe if they don't meet your school's "standards", you could suggest a personal trainer, or maybe even suggest they attend a different school. This has become crazy, IMO.
