Portsmouth beat OG in the state semis back in 1978, the score was 59-46...I'll leave it to boater to fill in the blanks. Titans are looking for some revenge 35 years later.

I like OG's chances vs. Portsmouth, who only scored 50 against Ironton. I say OG wins 57-42. It's the high scoring teams that concern me.

From yesterday's game story in the Portsmouth paper the Trojan's coach seemed pretty pleased with the matchup they got in Columbus:

The attention now turns to the Titans, whom Collins is excited for the contest. Among the things he likes is the time situation is pretty much the same as it has been all tournament and it’s a game of youth versus experience.
“It’s a favorable matchup, Ottawa-Glandorf is playing a bunch of young kids, they’ve got a post kid that’s a freshman,” Collins said. “It’s kind of a Cinderella story with them, they werent’ expected to get this far and they were able to.”

They gotta be pretty decent.
They got Chilicothe a couple times and Chili made it to the D2 regional semis and lost by 7 to St Clairsville who will play Elida in the D2 state semis.

Portsmouth has been D2 in the past and beat a very good Van Wert team in 92 I believe.
My guess is they are a large district like OG, on that border between D2 & 3. Pretty rough style of play down there, they'll bring it.

any suggestions on tickets. I have bought tickets through the school before but was not thrilled with my seats. Is is better to just buy them at the gate or is there a web site where people sell their unused ticket?

Ticketmaster does have tickets available online........

$18.00 each, includes carrying charges

best available seat for session #4 is Sec. 230 Row H
according to site, that is the home side which OG will be during this game (that is their claim, not mine)

every year fans who've not been there get all excited about tickets...........slow down, enjoy the experience :)
and you are correct.........the tickets the school will receive will be bad........that's the way it's always worked

IN '78 we started out leading by 8 points in the first quarter until the Spartans got over there jitters, we got in a slump in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and had too many T/O's to catch up - but did win the 4th quarter - just too little too late.
Interestingly enough in 1978 Portsmouth dropped form "AAA" down to "AA" abck when we had only 3 divisions.

Another interesting fact in both "77 and '78 Putnam County had 2 teams playing in the final 4 - '77 it was Continental and in '78 it was Ottoville that joined the Titans in C-bus!
The radio announcer from WOWO out of Fort Wayne - the same one ( can't recall his name off the top of my head) who called the game on the Movie "Hoosiers" used the this example to lobby Indiana to go to a similiar system that we had in Ohio. Back then they still had 1 tournament and only 1 champion in the entire state.

I saw this and thought I'd share :

The radio announcer you are referring to in Hilliard Gates. He was actually a TV sports announcer for Channel 33 in Ft. Wayne.

Gates - that was it - however he not only started his career @ WOWO and in radio, but also broadcasted the actual Milan game - then went on to to channel 33! I believe he still had a sports program on WOWO - because I recall listening to that broadcast.

I am guessing I am the only person in the state that has seen both teams play. I was in Athens last week for business and watched both games at Ohio U on Wednesday evening, which included the Portsmouth/Chesapeake game. By far and away, Portsmouth's best player is McKinley. He is big, physical and athletic. The game I saw he scored 30 of the first 45 points fro Portsmouth. He does all of his work within 10 feet of the basket and is an excellent rebounder. IMO, if you keep him off the glass, don't let him catch it deep and double when he does get it, O-G should be able to win this game. Portsmouth played exclusively man - man on the defensive end. When I left that evening, I told myself that NW Ohio would have a team in the state finals because O-G and LCC both could beat any of the teams I watched.

Titan fans will need to keep an eye on Portsmouth's bench for a familiar face. Jim Arnzen, son of long time DSJ coach Bob is an assistant for the Trojans
