The Barely Varsity Conference strikes again. Good job AHS! Got a chance to drive though A-town on my way to a wedding last Friday and loved the spirit signs. This is something the folks of Arlington have been waiting on for a long time so enjoy the moment. Hopefully the guys can make it 2 for 2.

Amazing, and this happens sometimes. Arlington's toughest games in the tournament were oddly at the district level where they were 5 seconds and one three pointer away from going home. The old adage that defense wins championships really rings true here. Arlington rarely let any opponent get in any kind of flow offensively. So many times in baskeball, kids just want to work on their offensive games, but this team rode their defense to a state title. NW Ohio appears to be truly the strength of the state this year with Ottoville, Holgate, New Riegel and a few others with outstanding years.

Great job Atown.......I think Newlove and PostPlayer owe the scorekeeper at LB district game a steak dinner (at least). Sometimes a little luck is all that is needed.

BVC proud!

Red,
I think Arlington is actually the favorite in this one............later tonight when Flound and i go over over our cribs I think we'll both come to the same conclusion.....
wouldn't it be something if the boys team could win tomorrow night (and I believe they will) and then beat the Hiland boys team down at state?.........that would
set Ohio sports on their ear!.........RM

sometimes I just think I can see the future :whistling:

Think about this for a minute...

Arlington girls win 27 games this year, 24 last year.
Arlington boys win 21 games (& counting!) this year

I am thinking Atown is officially a basketball town!! I don't have the energy to go back and count wins over the past 8 years for both programs, but it would be tough to find a DIV team in this area with as many combined wins IMO. Surely, someone will prove me wrong which is fine. Here's to hoping the boys can pull the upset on Berlin Hiland Thursday....

Bottom line - ATOWN IS GOOD AT BASKETBALL!!!

Rocketman, any comments on the game?? I know you predicted Arlington as a winner, but did you expect it to be by this much? Were you surprised by the quality of the two teams in the finals (because it has been said on here and that other "site" that these two teams were weaker than previous years). I just wondered what the "expert" thought about the game. :D

A big congrats to Arlington Girls' Team, I was impressed with their "D"

Good luck to the Arlington boys, hopefully it will be 2 for 2 vs. Hiland (a tall task)!

Post, I was beginning to think Arlington was trying to take on the role as a football town, what with the couple trips to the playoffs recently. But, I'd have to agree the tides have turned in favor of basketball!

Blaster,
if you listen to "the other experts" on things such as girls basketball you'll always find yourself dumber.........if you continue to follow
the "Flounder & Rocketman's" advice you'll be able to answer all those people's questions knowing that YOU know girls basketball!

I'm not saying I predicted that big of a margin, only a fool would think that Hiland would roll over.........those Hiland Hawks were going to go down
fighting to the end and there's no quit in any of them............it's what they do.......Flounder and I had been able to watch them earlier during the
summer and then again at the Classic in the Country in mid January......we just thought that the matchup favored the Devils in the Red Dress!

I don't know if any of you have realized this yet, but Flounder and myself had a pretty good year  ........both Twinsburg and Hathaway Brown
were our pre-season #1's......... Africentric was our #2 (Anna #1) and Arlington was also in both of our Top 10's.........NO OTHER service can
claim better results than this........NONE!! .......for 10 years now we have continued to bring the best rankings of anyone and our record is there
for everyone to see......did we do as good as we'd like this year?.......nope, the Flound and I take great pride in this and when we don't have at least
80% of our top 10 teams (pre-season) playing this past weekend it means we have work to do for next year...........thanks RM

Attendance for each division goes like this for the finals:

D1--3,404
D2--3,776
D3--4,191
D4--5,080

Funny how attendance decreased as the games went on from the start of d4 game to the big girl schools.

Any thoughts?

I calculated the averages for each division the last five years in the girls state tournament the results are of no surprise to me and for many others that follow girls basketball religiously.

D1 averages 3,852 in attendance which is the lowest
D2 averages 4,111 second lowest
D4 averages 4,555
D3 averages 4,745

D3 was the most consistent in attendance by having over 4,000 fans besides the 2008 finals between Versailles and Sugarcreek Garaway which had 3,796.

The highest attendance for one game was in 2009 D2 was 6,502 between Wapakoneta and of course Hathaway Brown. (can thank the 6,000) Wapakoneta fans)

The lowest attendance in a finals game was also in D2 in 2008's finals between 2 private schools nonetheless. (Hathaway Brown and Kettering alter) At a whopping 3,091.

I wouldn't say the defense is what does it for Arlington. It is their confidence. There was never a doubt that the Recker girls were in charge of that game, and they were hungry for a championship.
