The value of a player is not, and should not be, based solely on statistics alone. Personally, I'd have taken Corbin over Alspach for second team, but admittedly that's nit-picking. I don't have any major beef with the coaches' selections.

That's not the point. Everyone is missing the point. If stats are kept, then when the coaches go into the meetings at the end of the year, they should have the stat sheets pulled up in front of them. They are posted in the Courier weekly. I don't care if your kid is a senior or a freshman. The kid with the best stats should be awarded. Not that they are a senior, their dad kisses but the best, the mom is the best baker, etc. It should be based on something concrete! Something you CAN'T refute.
I don't know how you can do this. There are kids on great teams who are better basketball players than a star on a bad team. Basketball isn't all stats. Defense, coachability, ball handling, passing are not something stats are kept on. Many people just look at the points and rebounds and only use those as the value of a player. I've always said I'll take a kid who scores 10 points a game shooting 50% from the field than a kid who scores 15 points per game shooing 35% from the field.

Common, I think you and I (and 99% of the people on this board) are on the same page on this. Oftentimes, it's the intelligent pass that sets up the pass that gets the assist. There's no stat for that. Oftentimes, a smartly-set screen frees up a teammate for an open shot. There's no stat for that. Oftentimes, the ability to get through a screen keeps the defense in a strong position. There's no stat for that. Your points are all excellent ones, as anyone with even a passing familiarity with the game will agree.
