Was anyone else besides NB/HL invited? or is that a secret. I really could not see Ada being that interested the whole time, unless Grove and/or Bluffton would have shown some interest. I did not say this before as I figured I would just take a wait and see attitude and see how it unfolded.

Tiffin Calvert and Ada were the other two schools to give presentations to the BVC. I'd like to know how the voting process went and why two schoils refused to vote.
Always a watchful eyes on those Tiffin Calvert Senecas, Marion Local Flyers, Fort Loramie Redskins , New Albany Eagles.

if the 'lue was one of the 2 to abstain, as stated by 1 or 2 other posters, i'd think everyone would be thankful for their abstinence....?? :shrug2:

North Baltimore brings ZERO to the table. Not liking it; can't imagine that LB likes it either. What did LB gain on this BTW? HL is D6 correct? NB has to be D7 I would think.

Bottom line - HL will be a nice addition in about all sports, but I for the life of me, cannot figure out why anyone (except the NB faithful) are excited about NB being in the BVC.

NB has to be a location thing....it can't be based on successful sports.

NB will come in and compete just fine in football with Arc, Vanlue, C-R, PG, and HN. Softball will do just fine as well and against more than just those 5.

NB could be a sleeping giant if the rail yard pays off. Who knows...maybe in 20 years they'll join LB in the Too Big for the BVC Club.

Very disappointed in this. How the heck does NB get in and the BVC not be pro-active in recruiting Riverdale who is a much better fit? I don't blame Rdale...they had to play it close to the vest with the Northern 10.

They tried...repeatedly to get R-dale to no avail. I've also heard speculation that phone calls were placed by certain bvc schools to R-dale to sabotage their interest in joining the bvc.

They said as much the day presentations were made. They needed a Riverdale, Bluffton, Carey, Grove mix to seal their interests.

Which schools would want to sabotage Riverdale joining the BVC? And how would they go about doing so? I would think Riverdale would be appealing to almost everyone.

I believe this expansion begins in 2013/2014. There is no split divisions. Football will be played on a 2 year rotation. The BVC is still hoping Ada and Riverdale will join to make it a 14 team league. Fact of the matter is they weren't ready to join. Vanlue and Arlington were the two non-voters.

You are absolutely correct. I really thought that the timing was right (with the break-up of the NCC) for the BVC to expand and for Riverdale to join. I still feel that Riverdale in the BVC is a win-win situation...but have to emphasize that there was no guarantee of anything happening with the BVC. The N10 was a sure thing.

I'm extremely disappointed that the BVC didn't go after Riverdale more than they did. I am also extremely upset with the administration/board for making this such of a non-issue. I think they are cheating the district residents of having a league which offers natural rivals, better gates, shorter bus rides for the kids on school nights, and having a league where we weren't viewed as an outsider. I know that we will be in a better situation geographically with the N10 than we are in the NCC, but having our closest league "neighbor" almost 40 miles away for the better part of 25 years, it seems like we'd jump at the chance to be a part of the BVC, where our furthest league opponent would be about 40 miles away. I would LOVE to hear explanations from the board, AD, or administration about how this was handled.

BTW,
Even without adding "bigger" schools this helps L-B tremendously. I have to agree with HH75's post about scheduling and extra non-conference football opponents. That alone can help L-B more than just having a 10 team league of D5 schools.

This won't take effect until the 2014-2015 season. Why? I have no idea. So this years freshman class will be seniors for the first season of this. Typical education, it takes years before things happen. The 'Lue and Hardin Northern may scrap football by then, or move to another league. This is really the only option that made sense in trying to keep LB in the league. Unfortunate part is that you can have two undefeated teams in the league. In fact, it could happen very easily.

My reply would be that some schools have contracts that might be that far out with other schools that they can't break. Also, this gives the heads of the BVC time to figure out the scheduling issues.

Most leagues require members to give a 2 year notice of leaving.

Correct....Virtually ALL leagues now require a 2 year notice before leaving.

Article in Findlay paper today really seemed to indicate BVC wants 14 teams so they are not going to give up on the logical schools to get them to 14 as they have some time before 2014 school year. I bet they keep making overtures to Riverdale and try and secure one more along with them among Carey/Ada or Grove. Commish said they are going to be at 12 teams for 2014 but model would easily accomodate 14 if they get two more by then.

If Ada/Bluffton/Grove come over with Rdale in 3-4 yrs I think it would be great.

Not sure I like two small divisions at all. Did I mention, I DO NOT like the NB inclusion? Sure hope that new school & gym are ready to roll soon cause their existing gym is the worst gym I have ever seen for a high school....

Just so you know, Arlington did vote in favor of inviting both NB and H-L. Both CR and PG were against these schools. I don't know if they were opposed to one or the other or both, but they voted against admitting those schools.

Riverdale stated that there was no way they could join the BVC at this time. I suspect that if expansion talk had started 3 or 4 months earlier, that we would have seen a 14 team conference, which Arlington perfers to a 12 team conference. The door is open for both Riverdale and Ada, so we will see if they both accept. If the both choose to come in, then no other vote is needed. I do wonder if Ada will come, as they didn't seem to have a desire to join the BVC if either HL or TC were in the mix. But maybe with Riverdale, they'll make the move.

It will be most interesting to see how this all plays out five years from now.

Dang Crop - you really hate us Atown folks I guess! Sorry you feel that way, and I agree that not getting a new school stinks. If there was ever a time to run it up the flagpole (again) - it would be now with all of the success the basketball program had and will have the next several years...
