Fort Recovery starts season 2-0

by Tom Galdeen

Fort Recovery boys basketball team started the 2011-12 campaign by hosting a pair of WBL teams on the first weekend of the season. Friday night the Indians hosted the St. Marys Roughriders. The Roughriders got off to a fast start, leading 6-0 after a pair of early three pointers, but the Indians roared back scoring the next 11 points. The first quarter ended with the Indians holding a slim 15-14 lead. Fort Recovery then exploded for 22 second quarter points to only 8 for St. Marys to extend the lead to 37-22 at halftime. The Indians defense then held SM to only 7 points in the second half as the Indians cruised to the 54-29 win. Elijah Kahlig led 4 Indians in double figures with 14 points. Wade Gelhaus added 13 points, Jason Pottkotter and Jared Kahlig adding 11 points to the balanced attack.

Saturday night saw the Wapak Redskins come into the Fort Site Fieldhouse. The Indians started out hot from the field as they hit 67% of their shots in the first half including 6 of 10 from behind the three-point arc. They raced to a 21 -13 first quarter lead and were never threatened after that winning 61-38. Elijah Kahlig again was the leading scorer for Fort Recovery with 18 points as they had 4 players hit double digit scoring for the second night in a row. Gelhaus and Jared Kahlig added 15 points apiece and Pottkotter added 11 points. Gelhaus pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The Indians return to action Friday night travelling to Delphos to take on Jefferson.

Just what we needed...
I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

Delphos...Friday night! We don't really need the drubbing that is coming! :wallbash:
