Ok its a preview but your best player didnt take a shot or look at the hoop? Does he take shots in practice?

This preview stuff is for the birds anyways - nothing more than a money maker for the conference I guess. I went to one many years ago, and have not went back to a girls or boys preview since. You know it has no significance when the teams practice that day of the event.

If you think VB is going to be good this year, I have some land to sell you.

As for the preview, Arlington's best player was told not to shoot the ball against Van Buren, guess the coach felt sorry for the Knights.

I also heard that Recker was told not to shoot or dribble. Maybe the Arlington coach did feel sorry for VB. I'm sure Vermillion knows VB was left with no returning letterman and only 3 on the varsity team even started at the JV level last year. He is a classy coach, so I'm sure he wasn't out to humiliate VB. I hope people realize it is a rebuilding year for them. They have two starters on the injury list already, so it will be a challenging year for them. I'm sure they will do the best they can with the cards they were dealt.

Arlington, LB, Leipsic are the three to beat. I do not think there is a gap at all, When Arlington plays with INTENSITY they are a very good team. The big problem last year was the lack of Intensity.

Why is everyone so high on Arlington? I know about Recker, but did not realize he had much help otherwise. Don't sleep on Vanlue.

Slingblade said Arlington had enough talent for 2 varsity teams that would each finish top 5 in the BVC. I'm not attacking Arlington so no need to attack any other team. Just asking a question. So I'll ask again, why is everyone so high on Arlington? Who are the top players for them? I know about Recker but that is it.

Haven't heard much from supporters in the BVC. So here comes my uninformed guess at the BVC.

Leipsic - Most athletic team in league, with top guards. Ty Maag and Devin Mangas. Plus are very well coached.
*note I root for the Vikes

Vanlue - Biggest team in league. If they can find a guard to go with Garber and Kloepfer, they will be very tough to beat. Plus play Leipsic and Arlington at home in there crackerjack box.

Arlington - Recker will be the toughest player to defend in league and despite not being as tall as Garber may as well be the best rebounder in the Conference. If they have as much depth as everyone from there seems to think they will be tough to beat.

McComb - Toss up with Liberty Benton in this spot. I gave the Panthers the nod because of Jerry Brown and the athleticism of the Panthers. Confidence is one thing McComb never lacks. They get this from there coach and he is a good one.

Liberty Benton - Linhart is a good scorer and Rucki can shoot well from outside. If they can come up with some support, Williman will get them some wins and could very well move up this list.

Pandora-Gilboa - Big gap after LB in my opinion, but here goes. Call it a gut feeling but I think Coach Josh Klear gets the best out of his guys to finish just well enough to beat out CR. P-G has some size and will play hard.

Corey-Rawson - Jeremiah Alspach is not bad and I believe he has a freshman brother who will help some this year.

Van Buren - Don't know much at all about the Knights this year. I do know they had a solid JV team last year and its hard to put Arcadia and Hardin Northern above anyone in the league. Good luck to the new coach this year, he may need some.

Arcadia - Casey Mock won some league honors last year and will need to carry this team to earn a few wins.

Hardin Northern - Do not know anything about them other than recent history and a bad JV team last year.

That folks is my two cents, feel free to rip on my picks or give your own. Games start this week so lets pick up the chatter and have fun this year!!

There are some good ball players who have not proved a thing on Arlington's team, that being said they do have a lot of players with a lot of potential.

NWSPORTS - No question, we will all have to "wait and see" about this team. Not sure what that means about "I've heard this before"....it wasn't all that long ago that Vermillion's boys team went 20-0, and since that time several very good teams since. I guess that qualifies as having good talent doesn't it? Am I missing something?

Well I guess LB has a bit of talent as well.

Congrats to Arlington and LB as co-champs of the BVC.

This was probably as even at the top with 4 teams as ever in the BVC. They could all play each other again and we'd have a different champions. Wonder if Leipsic would have been better off playing LB at the start of the season?

I was/am shocked that LB somehow shared the title with Arlington. I expected Leipsic or Vanlue to be there with Atown, but NOT LB. Either LB really got it together late in the year (obviously) or Leipsic/Vanlue tanked late. I do think that Leipsic tanked late, which is odd considering how good their team is.

I will say this, when we thumped LB this year, I walked away saying this was the least talented LB team Williman has had in a long time. Kudos to Williman for turning that ship around, cause I would have never thought that would happen.

So...since Atown beat LB handily in the head-to-head....just saying :pickles:

I must say that having watched LB Boys Bball from the mid 90's this is by far the single best coaching performance by Steve Williman. He took an average team and won the BVC with it. He has been spoiled with talent since I started attending LB games to watch my nephew years ago. The state champion team was loaded, followed up by Hyde and Craft. This year he did it with youth. If Williman ever deserved a BVC coach of the year, this will be the year. Of course, Post will lobby for Co-Coach of the year honors.

I look forward to the next couple years to see what this LB group will do. They have some nice talent in the 8th & 9th grade, as well as some more sophomores that should be able to contribute. Good luck LB in the tournament run!

Talent must not include discipline and ball handling, because this LB team grew immensely the last few months. LB will be the easy favorite the next couple of years. This group is mostly sophomores, and there are some good groups coming behind. They are a little perimeter oriented and you could catch them on a cold shooting night, but they defend and take care of the ball.
