Damon Koverman is not ready to be a Head Coach of a Legion team. He needs to be an assistant coach and learn the game through that avenue. To give the reins of the team to such a young person could be disaster in the making.
Reiman, does a nice job...but not sure that he has the knowledge.
There are a couple of other people out there to consider.
Dave Koverman...getting him to come back as the Manager probably won't happen.
Jimmy Morris is at the top of the list in my mind. I think the players would respond to him very positively and he is a former Legion player...former coach at Lima Sr. and played for the Locos and Wright STate.
Coaching some of the best baseball talent in the area would be right up his ally, and I think the area coaches would probably accept that as well.
Another name, Chad Spencer...current Shawnee Baseball Coach...he would be great as well. The knowledge he brings to the table, and the people that he surrounds himself with
Either one of those two would be excellent choices...and they don't have "language issues"!!! LOL
Shoffner...long shot in getting him to come to Lima with the travel involved. I heard he may be leaving Russia...but not confirmed yet. The St. Marys team folded.
There is some talk that it could come back next year...and possible that you could see a Koverman surface there...maybe both of them...which would be a coup for St. Marys.
I wonder if SM ever thought of talking to Mike Wyss from Minster or Jon Dorner from St. Henry about taking that program over again.
The big thing is going to be Legion Support for the team.
Lima's Legion post seems to be pretty strong yet, but they are not as vested financially as they have been in the past.
SM is very supportive and wants the team to be strong...
Another name for SM or LIma to consider...Jason Brandt.

Lima may have trouble with money for travel but you cannot question the quality. Every tourney they have entered they have won. Be it in Ottowa, Cincinnati or Columbus. The kids have shown that they can play with anyone. Last year they ended up third in the state with the youngest team in the tourney. Lima Legion may not be playing the best teams in the state but the teams they do play, they show up and play well. Getting looks from colleges may be a problem, but at the state tourney there is a whole host of D1 schools.
The future is in question though, if Legion teams continue to fold, Lima will have to move on. To what league and what sponsor, ?

Hey Dr. when we played you were encouraged to play multiple sports. Now every coach believes that their sport is the only one at the school. I get it if the kid is on the couch, get him in the weight room. Make him run sprints and get ready for the season. Legion kids are playing all over the state and are sharpening their skills. I have a child that plays and in one day he went to the weight room for football, played basket ball for the school and then played nine innings for the Legion. I have heard multiple sports athletes say they could stop playing one sport just to get the coach off their backs. You said baseball would go. These kids said it would be football. An entire season of workouts for ten games. Basesball, if you play school and Legion you can get seventy five to eighty games in. These kids are not slackers, these are some of the hardest working players in the school. They are just asking for a little understanding. Remember it is called playing sports, PLAYING sports.

Spencer is not a Nazi...he is a good baseball guy that has alot of fun and the kids that play for him in the spring will attest to that.
Morris would be a good nod for the program in the long haul...He coached with the Locos and knows how to have fun in the summer. It is about managing egos and getting the stars from other HS to mesh together...Morris and Spencer could both pull that off with ease.
Damon will be ready in time...but he isn't ready right now or even next summer. How is he respected in the community??? You can't be respected due to what your father has built...what has he done to be respected??? He is 30 games into being an assistant coach and you are ready to hand him the reins to the program????
It is his only coaching experience to my knowledge...
I don't know him very well...so not trying to kick him or anything...just saying...his first asst. coaching gig and you are ready to give him the reins...I think there are other people out there that are ready now and he could do good by tutoring under them as well.
Problem they will have is that most legion coaches do not get paid to be there...it is all volunteer. I am sure that the Legion does some special things for the guys over the summer...
It is more than just getting games together, driving to the away games...or even arguing...you better thoroughly know the game or you can get boxed in pretty quickly.

Good luck to the Lima Legion at the State Tournament! I believe this will be their best shot to win the tournament for the next couple years.

Napoleon can be defeated...bringing the "A" game is important. Getting down to them early could be a disaster. Hopefully they won't see each other until late in the winner's bracket.
If Lima can hit and pitch consistently throughout the tournament they could pull it off.

In Baseball, I could see where hitting and pitching consistently would help!!!

You still have to think though, Lima can beat anybody in the state. They had the Locos beat by 2 runs and blew it in the bottom of the 9th. They also beat the Cinci Storm big time who is apparently full of D1 players. Also, did Sandusky even make it out of their district this year? I remember last year they lost twice to White House? correct me if i'm mistaken.

Pickerington has a number of players all who played college ball this past spring...not sure of the number.
Napoleon has a few...Yeager Post has 4 or 5 from what I have been told.
It will be interesting to see how the teams are seeded...and who will play who right off the bat!
Double Elimination puts a huge stress on pitching. Staying out of the losers bracket is going to be THE key to winning state...no matter who you are!

Not sure who Lima has next...but Napoleon and Utica play each other...loser I think will play Lima but not sure on that...could be dead wrong.
