Just got word that one of our RC members' 6 yr. old son has been admitted to the hospital with pnuemonia.
Please send your well wishes & prayers to Gabe, especially, & the oberhaus family, at this time.

As of late last night, Gabe had shown slight improvement and remains in the same condition today....... It appears as if he will have to remain hospitalized for the better part of this upcoming week as of now, so please, continue to keep him & his family in your thoughts.

Hang in there, li'l buddy!!! smile.gif

Thanks for all of the prayers everyone, but, they're in need of even more now, as Gabe is in surgery as I type this, having tubes inserted to remove the fluid from around his lungs....... I'm not familiar with what the normal treament of pnuemonia is when it gets to this stage; I just know, as a parent, that this has to be as troubling & upsetting as things can get when something is happening to your baby(ies) and you have no control over the situation......

Thoughts of you are gently wrapped in little prayers, for heaven to smile on you, angels to watch over you, and happiness to fill all of your hearts again, Kevin, Leslie & Gabe...... from all of us at the 'Corner.

Thanks everyone. Not much to do but sit and wait. He wasin a very good mood this morning. Our wonderful neighbors even bought him a Nintendo DS and a game. He was playing it as they rolled him to the surgery prep room. Will post again when he is out.

Oh man, so sorry to read this Ober! I was scared to death about 2 months ago when my 3 year old son had a terrible case of the flu. It never developed into pneumonia, but it was about to that point. You just feel so...............helpless.................

I am saying extra prayers for Gabe and the whole Ober family. I hate to think about what you're all going through (and have gone through).

Gabe is doing much better. The tube has been in for almost 2 days and the drainage is decreasing. The doctors also say that his lung is sounding much much better then before. He had a rough night Monday after the surgery and Tuesday during the day. This was all because the morphine wasnt helping his pain, just making him sleep.

They switched him to Tylenol 3/Coedine and Turidal? This has made a night and day difference. When they gave him the new medicine I saw that his fingers were crossed. I asked him why. He said "so the new medicine will work!" Brought me to tears. Then my mom and I crossed ours too.

Since the switch he has been in a chair quite often which is what the doctors want. He continues to cough which is also good to loosen up the pneumonia. He is actually nodding off in his chair as I type this.

It amazes me how strong he is. Since day one he has answered every question of "How do you feel?" with "great" Sometimes that "great" is mixed in with tears but just him staying strong is uplifting. I could really learn something from my little guy in the attitude department.

We will probably still be here into the weekend which I'm not looking forward to, but if it means having a healthy Gabe...I will take it. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. I know our facebook friends have all been there too.

Got tears welling up now! I don't even know you, ober. I'm not a regualr RCer. Still, I hate to think of what you're going through and what little Gabe is going through. I have a 6 year old and it just puts it into perspective for me as a parent. My heart aches for you all. It's funny how much we are always trying to teach our children. Sometimes we fail to realize how much they teach us.

Continued prayers your way.

From Kevin:
Gabe Update 3-17-11
Gabe is doing good today. He had to fight off some minor fevers through the day yesterday and the night. They seemed to come on towards to end of his pain medicine. So his mood was up and down. Right now he is sitting in the chair watching Chuggington and playing his Nintendo DS....

Very glad to hear at this time he was doing better.....

These pics are from the 15th & 17th.......

(except this one...'just 'cause he is so darn cute in his school pic & i wanted to show it off!! LOL) biggrin.gif The way I want to see him again, SOON!!!!!!

15th-17th

Get well soon, Gabe!! And please keep us updated, obie!! smile.gif Take care, all!

Gabe got his tube taken out yesterday, but he is still spiking fevers. The surgeons weren't happy with his xray this morning. They are worried that there is still fluid/gunk that is pushing on his lung and causing the fevers.

His antibiotics have been changed last night so we will see how that works.

We just got back from going down to the actual xray lab instead of them using the mobile xray. The quality of films are much better down there. Then we went to have an ultrasound on his lung. So once they look at that we will know more on whats going on. There is a possibility that they will need to go back in and physically drain some more fluid.

Please continue to pray for Gabe to kick this thing in the butt. Also keep Leslie in your prayers. She had a rough night on thursday with Gabe as I was in KY. He spiked a 103 fever and sweated so much that his IV came out and there was blood everywhere. Then last night with me being knocked out from drugs treating my hives, she was up tending to Gabe as it seemed he had to pee every 30 minutes or so. She went home this morning for a few hours to get some stuff done and take a nap.

Gabe's spirits are still up but you can tell he just wants to go home and back to school.

Thanks you all for caring about us. Its been really tuff dealing with this. We are blessed to have a caring family and great friends.
