You seem to have a bit of an attitude, my friend. Number one now you re now bashing Ottawa. No one here is bashing the kid, but when you make him a public figure with press releases and declaring him "one of the best players in the country," you certainly open things up for discussion. After all this is a forum for discussion. According to the press release a few months ago he is being recruited as a cather third baseman. My question is...is he going to catch this spring...if not, why not? Not bashing him...just a question.

You shouuld probably ask your head coach where he is going to play. I don't have a horse in this race; I am sure he's probably the best SS on your team as well.

Nothing against the fine folks and city of Ottawa at all. Another situation where a kid excels and out works the normal high school player, then you always have a jealous few.

No attitude at all and I could really care less!

Time will tell my friend; beleive it or not there are folks with a lot more baseball knowledge than you and I. They have him rated very capable of playing DI baseball and above. He has proved his talents at much higher levels than local high school baseball that is average at best in this area. Sorry to inform you but there are alot better options out there than Ottawa sports.

When it is all said and done; he'll have the last laugh. Looking back at you still sitting in Ottawa posting things on a public forum about the next kid you might be jealous of.

Continue to stir the pot and try to break him down; it will not matter in the end. biggrin.gif

The kid is a good kid. He just hasn't been able to stay healthy for an extended period of time. The Ottawa Legion incident last summer where he took off for a camp after they had just beaten the highly-touted Napoleon Legion in the winners' bracket of the tournament was not his idea, and then the Legion gets beat by one run in the next game. What's worse is his teammates & coaches were not told the truth about why he wouldn't be there, and that's why unfortunately there's controversy. Incredibly there was a very similar camp a month later in August they could've sent him to if they really thought that camp was all that important. Like I said, he's a good kid with a whole lot of upside as far as baseball talent.
Now as to the original reason for this thread, I do think the program has a bright future if everybody stays on the same page. Has Coach Miller been perfect? No, but who is? I'm sure he's learned a few things about dealing with kids, but you can't say he doesn't have an adequate knowledge of baseball. He does, and if the young kids truly are willing to keep at it in the cages & devote themselves to baseball, there's truly no reason you can't see a turnaround. Defiance baseball prior to coach Inselmann coming there was not nearly what the program is today. Same thing for st John's football. It was in far, far worse shape, but Vic Whiting got a couple dedicated classes to start turning the culture around. No reason really why the same thing can't happen here

Sounds to me like you are a little closer to the situation then you are trying to lead us to believe. Classic online forum tactic.

The coaches were told what was going on...it was a family vacation...the camp was add on and he did the camp. So what!

He is not a distraction to the team. The weekend you now have in question...the coach knew about it. Not a distraction. Only a distraction if it distracted YOU.

He is going to be a fine baseball player. Whether you believe that or not is totally up to you. I know the scout that was involved in his evaluation. He is no slouch scout and knows his stuff extremely well. I know the family and they are good people. The dad has worked with many other kids in the area...he isn't just about his own son. The player is a good kid. Works hard...is always pushing himself to be better. He had some set backs and overcame them. I think alot of other kids would have caved in...he didn't. He is in great condition physically and mentally.
If you were starting a team up...you would build up the middle...I would start with him..he can play SS/2B and catch. He can play 3B as well. Switch hitter...quick hands...great foot speed...strong arm. INtangibles that can't be coached...

Leave the kid alone. He isn't hurting you or anyone else. Why get on here and bash him? Call him a distraction...blah, blah, blah...
I think everytime someone gets on here and bashes a kid...and I mean any kid... Rocketman should reveal who they are...that would keep everyone on the up and up...and maybe reduce the stupid people that get on here hidden behind a name so they can bash some kid...
Just my two cents.

Could that scout be the former Reds Scout himself, Stan Myers? Cause I heard a story once about how he scouted Derek Jeter so I think he would fit your billing about knowing his stuff extremely well. biggrin.gif Of course, I kid I kid.

Thanks for the insight....it's really appreciated.

Overrated? Really? By who? I've yet to see OG mentioned in any ratings, rankings, polls, etc.

Care to enlighten us?

Only problem here is, no one is bashing the kid. If he is as good as you say my Cubs better be watching him! I hope he and the Titans do well, you know there will be 8 other players out there with him. Maybe those other kids deserve some discusion.

So this player that everybody keeps on talking about has not been to practice yet this week. I heard it is because he got his wisdom teeth taken out. But yet he can hit in the batting cage after practice with his dad. This does not make a lot of sense to me. Also back to someone saying that he is one of the top players in the nation, I have not found him on any websites saying he is a top recruit. If someone can found a site that says that, please share a link.

He's not listed on any websites....Perfect Game, Buckeye Scout, etc, etc because he didn't attend their events. Those lists are essentially limited only to players who've PAID to attend an event run by that organization. He isn't listed because he didn't have to attend their events, he got an offer from Tennessee and a lot of other schools by working hard and attending camps & events that get you noticed...but don't have their own publications. Look at the Blue Gray Classic from last September in SC. He went there as an invited player...and was named defensive player of the event. He started getting offers right after that. You don't have to attend a PG event to get noticed by colleges...but you do have to attend if you want to be named to their "top recruit" list.

The only thing that this kid has is a dad that has overhyped this kid!

He made a verbal commitment which means as much as the paper its written on. A verbal is not binding to anyone. There is no scholarship money!

Guru, I'm on to your game...why are you so down on this kid? Why not be suppportive of him...or is your beef really with his dad? Cause it really comes across to me that you don't like his dad. You have been on him since the Legion thing from last summer...really comes across as you being really close to the legion scene which kinds makes me think you are someone associated with the Legion....hmmmmmm....kinda makes sense your statements about the kid and last summer, the statements about his dad.

I find it highly interesting that you and a few others come on here to be down on this kid and for what??? Are you jealous that your kid (if you have one) isn't as good. Or are you stinging because you didn't get to have your way last summer with the Legion team...

If you really don't have a problem with this kid...then leave it alone.
If you really have a problem with his dad...go and confront him and let him know your beef...or is the yellow streak to wide???

16/17/18 year old kids are being talked about on this forum and one has success and has a verbal offer to Tenn., and you come on here talking about how it isn't worth a thing...or the paper??? Come on???
Go meet his dad, set up a meeting and go air it out with him...
Cowards come on here and do what you do.

Rocketman - please kill this thread; it will only get worse. The only one losing in this mess is the kid being discussed!
