The 4th annual WBL-PCL Senior Challenge will take place on Sunday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Ryan Field in Wapakoneta. The WBL-PCL Challenge pits the top senior girls soccer players from the Western Buckeye League against those from the Putnam County League. Teams that have been invited to play are: Bath, Celina, Defiance, Elida, Kenton, Ottawa-Glandorf, Lima Shawnee, St. Marys Memorial, Van Wert, Wapakoneta, Continental, Ft. Jennings, Kalida, Miller City, Ottoville, Delphos St. Johns, Lima Central Catholic and Miami East.

The WBL has won the first three years, can the PCL break their streak this year?

Here's to hoping that DSJ can win Wednesday night and then Saturday so that our seniors can dream of the next game in Columbus and not this all star game. I know it will take a maximum effort but this team has surprised us all year. GO JAYS!

They are one of the non-league invitees to boost the numbers as is Delphos St. Johns and LCC

Why call it the WBL - PCL challenge if almost half of the PCL team isn't from the PCL....and how the heck does Miami East fit into this? Not that it matters, but that's a long way for a couple kids to go to play in an All-Star game with a bunch of kids they don't know.

The short answer is because the "WBL-PCL/Catholic Schools/Lima Senior/whoever else we can find Senior Challenge" doesnt fit well onto a T-shirt. tongue.gif

The long answer is that in the past the two leagues have had enough senior players on their own to field two full teams. However, as we all know some years there are a large number of seniors and some years there are not. This is one of the years where there arent many senior girls able to play on the PCL side, therefore some other teams were invited to fill out the roster. The teams that are outside of the two leagues that are invited are usually picked because they are stronger area teams with a connection to the coaches in those two leagues. As far as Miami East is concerned, its actually a shorter trip for them to Wapak than it is for the Defiance girls.

Just surprised that you couldn't find another team from the Northwest District. What is Miami East ties to the local coaches??

District affiliation had nothing to do with the invitations, they actually have been invited the past couple of years but have not had anyone albe to play. She is a former ONU player and friends with area coaches.

Exactly what I was asking....makes perfect sense. Just wondered what the connection was.
