Poor ole Gumshoe, it seems like they are hating on your Birds. There is no doubt Father Herr and Seggerson use to bring in a lot of "troubled souls" in the 70's. And you are correct that the trend has slowed if not stopped. Let the haters hate and keep doing what your doing. Winning!! Personally hope Frank get the boys job instead of the other name mentioned. You are also correct, Bluffton needs to act like they been there. But remember when Coop had the bird for the folks from St. Henry a few years back in football??? Sometimes emotion over runs common sense. When is the T Bird / Mustang make up. They beat ya last year! Take care.

From the time the school opened until the early 80's, LCC took in alot of kids from Lima, troubled souls as you called them. This however was as much to rear ends into seats to build population as much as it was for athletics. The school was new back then and Fr Herr wanted bodies in the house. When Seg started out , I would imagaine he was delighted when they could play. But how do you think Derry Glenn got in back then? Not for Athletics, not for academics obviously, but to fill seats build poplulation and get funding to build a school. Again all this a long time ago that none of us today can control.

As far as the St Henry thing we took our beating on the field, took it on here and what can you say. Embarassing and the whole school was mocked for it. That too was several years ago but still gets brought up when posters cant come up with anything new.

LCC and Allen East will tangle either tonite or Saturday morning to finish the baseball league this year. I hope we do not take them lightly, I know they can play.

With $5000 tuition, LCC is basically recruiting a better quality of student from the get go. A student with a better chance of success is both sports and education. The potential for success is better.

How many special educations students are counted in LCC's numbers?
What percentage of their students are receiveing free or reduced lunches?
What percentage of their students live in low income housing?
How many of their students spend their Juniour and Senior years attending Appollo?

Public schools all have these type of students counted in their numbers.

It is just like "Army" v/s "Marines". The Marines start out recruiting better candidates, thus should eventually end up with a slightly better end result.

For the record OG plays in the WBL which is MUCH better than the NWC.. Paulding beat Bluffton and OG swept paulding in a DH.. so I have no idea why bluffton people are so confindent your still bluffton..

DW---You can't use comparative scores in baseball like you do in football & basketball. The only thing our sweep of Paulding proved is that our second-tier pitchers are much better than Paulding's second tier, because that's who pitches Saturday doubleheaders in high school games. Also, Bluffton wisely pitched their #2 against Paulding's #1 pitcher last Thursday because they wanted to save Cheney for an 18-5 St Henry team in sectionals. Plenty of weak/mediocre teams become a very different team when their #1 either is or isn't on the mound that day. Look at a 6-win wauseon team beating 18-win Napoleon Monday in sectionals. As incredible as this statement may have seemed even as recently as two years ago, the Bluffton Pirates with Cheney pitching will indeed be the favorite in the district against us if we win tonight against L-B. If we still had Trent pitching for us instead of U-D it would be a different story, but their #1 is stronger. Not saying we can't win, but they are indeed the favorite, just as the winner of that game will not be the favorite in the next game because Coldwater has a better #2 than both teams, assuming the Cavs win tonight

Bluffton lost 2-1 in 8 innings. Had a chance to win in bottom of seventh with baserunner on 3rd with number three hitter up...couldn't get him in.

Gumshoe ---

Correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand Open Enrollment in the Public System a student must not participate in athletics for a full year if they are in grades 9 - 12. I am not aware of that rule when it comes to "transfers" in the Private Schools. Call it what you like, there has been more than one case in the past that a football player has appeared as a Jr or Sr and a "scholarship" for a "better education" was provided. Back to the topic.........

Good Luck Bluffton Baseball

Good Luck Bluffton Softball

It has been enjoyable to follow you both in 2010

You don't have to sit out a year if you transfer from a private school to a public school, but you do if you go from public to public or public to private (assuming you haven't moved your place of residence to a different school district). That's why Ryan Nathan and Jamhiir Williams didn't have to sit out a year when they transferred from LCC to LSH, but Rufus Johnson and the Lombardos had to sit out a year when they came to LCC. (Daniel also later transferred to Kenton and didn't have to sit out a year)

Some advantage for the big bad private schools, huh?

L.C.C. has brought players in since the days of Curly Baker and Tom (Mutt) Terry playing on the playgrounds of Garfield Elementary. Segs use to work the playgrounds in the summer. GET REAL!! Kendal Nance, Jimmy Freeman, Shane & Shawn Foster, Steve Mowery, Aaron Hutchins, the list goes on. Heck, Tony Caprella (Shawnee), Todd Ruggley (Bath). GET REAL!! Fact of the matter now, with the Lima City Schools on academic probation, people like the great councilman (L.C.C. grad) Derry Glenn, go around passing out vouchers to city kids like candy and they get to go for free. Grant it, their are a great number of kids who come up through the Catholic schools and their families have for generations. The catholic kids that participate in baseball are nurtured through the Shawnee summer programs (most of the families live in the district) through the beginning years. (t ball, little league, and pony league) They have a drawing base that encompasses a large geographical area. Not to mention capitalizing on the "free voucher" plan with the city schools. No, they do not have to "recruit"...but....if it walks like a duck.......................

You're either incredibly ignorant, misinformed, just lying, or living in your own little world. There is so much incorrect information in this post.
