I need to rant. I am so P**sed!! Last night by some miracle my husband made it home after falling from the top of a front loader. (it's one of them heavy duty like bull dozer that has a 10 yd bucket on it) He had been moving snow all day. Anyway he slipped from the top step and broke his foot pretty badly. He gets home and I rush him to Emg. at St Rita's. We get in there, get xrays, see 2 different Doctors and countless nurses. Take the standard Drug testing since it was on the job and now Workers Comp is going to be involved. They tell us his foot is broken in 2 places. Ankle and shin are ok although badly bruised. He gets a "soft cast". They come with his walking papers and tell us he "needs to see a specialist at OIO tomorrow morning" for possible surgery. Sends him home with a few pain pills. WTF do they do all that and not call in or have an special Dr on duty is beon me. We and our Ins had to pay for all that.

So we call OIO this morning. We cannot just go in we have to have an appointment. They give us one for TOMORROW-Tuesday. I throw a fit. They must have heard me ranting in the background because they moved him up to noon today after I am yelling how the foot is broken in two places, he doesn't sleep all night because of the pain and his foot is blacker than an ink blob, it looks like it's dead. Now we get to go to OIO at noon, have more xrays taken see more doctors, get more bills and have to deal with Workers Comp again. And on top of all this....they refused to give us an appointment until we gave them our health care information OVER THE PHONE. When they asked for SS number I hit the roof. Information like that should not be given over the phone, I can't believe they were even asking, Hello...Homeland Security???. It is not a wonder the USA is becoming so F***ed up. Health cares the cause of it!!!!

Wow, the two places I wouldn't send my worstest enemeies and you're going to both of them. I've heard more horror stories about St. Rita's an OIO than you would believe. I will just say that whatever OIO tells you...get a second opinion. I will guarantee that they gonna try to schedule a surgery for tomorrow and get you in quick before you can find out you don't really need it. I no at least 3 people who had surgerys scheduled that OIO said that they "had to have" and found out from another doctors that they didn't need it. Don't trust 'em.

I don't really want to go to OIO either. Would be heading down to Beacon in Cincinnati if I could but my husband is in so much pain and his toes are going purple. I just hope we get a good Dr. They said a foot specialist is on call to day from out of town. So hopefully its someone good.

I do sympathize with you. Nobody should have to go through that when in that much pain.

Can't help but wonder...how will Obamacare handle this.....

Actually, I have been in the hospital twice recently for kidney stones and my experience was not bad at all. (Maybe because I had a morphine pump that I could press every 6 minutes???) My wife kind of got mad at me when I came home after the surgery and she started in on me with the questions and telling me what I should be doing..... "I said-while in the hospital I could get a nurse to do just about anything I wanted with the push of a button...and the rest of the time they just left me alone."

Doctors and their billings are a complete joke in this country today. I recently went for a follow up visit to a Doctor for a surgery I had 4 months ago. I waited in his office for over 2 and a half hours and when I finally got in to see him he spent an entire 5 minutes with me. And now for the kicker, that 5 minutes he spent looking at me cost my insurance company $1833. But of course the insurance company got that bill reduced to a reasonable (cough, cough) $795........WTF ........Now work out this math problem. At a rate of $795 for 5 minutes if he spent 5 minutes with 12 patients it would equal one hours time. That amounts to a very cool $9540 an hour. Just a tad over minimum wage don't ya think?

4me........

I went to OIO, and had great success there......I have no complaints and know of many others who feel the same way.....their evaluation was right on......of course, a second opinion never hurts, but the second opinion that I received was far worse than what OIO told me.......guess it just depends on the injury.......and Dido is right.....all doctors are extremely high in costs!!!!!

yeah i had the same problem when i had swine flu. our insurance claim was denied because the emergency room visit was "unnecessary".
2 reasons this is bs:
#1: i had passed out on the living room floor and when i came too i could barely maintain consciousness
#2: we have no emergency care facility in paulding county, and there was no way we were going to wait another 12 hours to go to the family doctor, especially when he would've sent me to the same place.

Right On!!!! The people at OIO would schedule someone for surgery if they had a bloody nose. And what makes it worse, they have these little "trainers" working at the high schools that seem like they are getting kick backs for referring kids. These "trainers" diagnose and tell athletes and their parents their player needs knee surgery if they jam a finger. St. Rita's can afford to totally change the geography & demographics of Lima and have a "floating ball of granite" in their lobby, but are laying off nurses and continually shooting our costs off the charts. Everyone should consider (when possible) exploring the Cleveland Clinic, Medical College of Ohio, or O.S.U. as options when having to schedule a procedure. Each of these wonderful institutions, generally will take your insurance payment as paymnent in full. Hell, with St. Rita's, there are times your out of pocket is more than what the insurance will pay. Starbucks coffee in the lobby....lol. 14% unemployment in Lima and we have Starbucks in the lobby. With their costs they should have free coffee for everyone. Dan Beck gave coffee to the inmates...but then they also get free medical care!!! What is wrong with this picture????? If you are incarcerated you get: free coffee, free medical, and free education/vocational training. Something to think about!!

We seen the Dr at OIO and he was very through with us. Showed us the xrays, explained everything on a "model" foot. Seems like a great guy. Told us there was a chance surgery might be needed but was holding off on that until the swelling went down and a MRI could be performed and show how bad the tendons were torn. Both my husband and I liked him.

I still feel that if you go to emg they should have a dr on call for all needs. We would have been willing to wait till he got there. I can understand it was not a life and death matter but emg care should be just that...emg care. In St Rita's favor tho the staff was great, everyone was very nice, we didn't sit and wait forever like you hear stories about. It just gets under ones skin when they go for treatment get billed and then get told to go else where for the final treatment. With today's financial problems and the problems with health care it just seems "fishy". Like they are trying to find a way to beat the PPO cost and stuff. And when a loved one is in so much pain and there is not a thing you can do to erase that pain and hurt...one freaks and rants!!! - like ME! tongue.gif

Costs will be higher if Dr's are oncall at all times. Honestly, with the swelling in your husbands foot, there wasn't much even a doctor could have done. For the most part, you have to wait in pain until things are able to proceed.

I'd rather shower at Penn State than root for Michigan.

First of all....if LIMA had real hospitals,,,,there should be a doctor...ON CALL....there should be several doctors 24 hours a day on a assigned shift to deal with "PROBLEMS" that occur 24 hours a day......to DEAL WITH ANYTHING that occurs.......LIMA HOSPITALS SUCK.....I WILL SAY THIS TO THE DAY I DIE ....7 years ago...their "specialst" really ******ED UP MY SONS HEALTH he had to get life flighted to Cleveland Clinic....cause they ******ED UP......Cleveland DOCTORS ASKED US >>>>WHY THE HELLL>>>>>>DID THEY DO WHAT THEY DID....they were amazed......he has now been fighting cancer for 7 years cause your trusted LIMA health care officials were not smart enough to any kind of testing....****** LIMA

I am sorry to hear this.....My wife had California insefalitis (sp) and they brought in specialists to see her...she was on life support for 3 days and had seizers for those 3 days, but in reality they did save her life, so yes I do have some respect for them....

A wise man once told me, "Remember, 50% of all doctors graduate in the lower half of their class." It does hold true. Which half of the class do you get when you see a doctor?
