What's a Man Cave? man cave n. A dedicated area of a house, such as a basement, workshop, or garage, where a man can be alone or socialize with his friends. I love seeing mancaves & with WLIO advertising their special report this week, I thought this is the perfect place to have a discussion on them!!! football.gif sudsy.gif football.gif punk.gif football.gif beer.gif football.gif So, who all here has one or has friends that have one & how is your's/their's set up? If you don't have one, but, wish you did, or expect to have one in the future, what would your ultimate mancave necessities include? btw...If you have pics of any mancaves, let's see 'em!! punk.gif

Don't have one currently. But I will someday have a sports bar in my basement or garage.

This will include at least one big screen, a pool table, a few dart boards, and probably a couch or two for a place to sit while watching the game.

And of course, a whole lot of beer.

Come to Putnam county, they are all over the place. In fact, in Glandorf, people build little sheds in their back yards that are fully functioning bars with fridges, grills and TV's. Not sure where it started, maybe Kalida or down in Mercer county.

Who wants one ? the name MAN cave should give that one away tongue.gif

Although, if you don't want an actual man cave...does that make you less of a man?

I wanted one in my basement but it just won't work. I have an older home and the basement is too low for my friends. I made mine in the garage. Pull the cars out and there's PLENTY of room for the guys. The fridge out there is always stocked. I have a BIG 2 car garage with about 10 feet extra on the far side. I have a work bench that has been trasnformed into my Entertainment Center. Console tv sits underneath it, stereo on top. I have the tv hooked to the stereo with two 15" speakers in there. I brought my old computer out (with 2,000 songs plus internet so I can get more) so it's main purpose now is a jukebox. That's also hooked through the stereo. And a man cave for a almost-30 man wouldn't be complete without an original Nintendo hooked up with Tecmo Super Bowl in it at all times! The guys will come and watch football all day and play Tecmo all night with the music bumpin'! Of course there's a table in the one corner for cards. It's still a work in progress but it'll get there. Next project - HEAT!

My ideal Man Cave would have a full bar, pool table, projection tv, a few smaller tv's for the "other" games, and a stage for my band to use for practice or to entertain my guests after the BIG games. Then I'd have a place for all of my OSU stuff!

Week 10....don't despair, I'm sure it will happen.
That was actually my gift for Christmas to other half this year. Got a room cleaned out that had been claimed by kid's old stuff. The room isn't very big...I didn't do anything else to it...but it has been funny to see him planning and playing in it because it is HIS. biggrin.gif

Yep. When the kids are living at home, you got no room- when they move out, you got too much.

Wife said the same thing the other day. Something to the effect of 'When the kids move out maybe we should move into a condo or something"

Got mine in the basement. Dart board, pool table, a bar, a TV, a refrigerator, a couple of couches, a Nintendo and a playstation. The only thing I need is an Area 54 arcade system. I am pretty darn happy with what I have right now. It took me a long time to get that crap together, and to fix up my basement.

Had one at my old house in my garage before i had kids and a fire. Heat, pool table, kegerator, tv, surround sound, couches, ping pong, xbox, nintendo, sega, atari, and radio. There were parties at my house every weekend and even during the week back in the day. Now in my new house I will have to wait until the kids get older to finish mine.

I run a portable cable line to my building from house. Have about 70' by 50' area with a basketball goal on one end. 50" tv and heated. Works okay, but not much of a party guy. Have about one event a year.

What I like about mine is when the weather's nice, the kids want to go out and play. I pull the cars out and they can ride the bikes around. I flip on the tube or the stereo and can stay out there for hours. I enjoy playing with my kids but I can only handle watching them go in circles on their bikes for about an hour. Having something else in the background helps!
What I don't like about mine - winter! I hope to insulate and heat it at some point but not sure if that'll happen or not.

I don't really have a "mancave" as such-but I do have a room where I can go to kind of "get away" from things. I am in the process of building an HO scale train layout in my "room". It is about 5' x 9' right now with 3 operating trains. I have another board with track on it...but so far the wife isn't willing to totally surrender the room to me to allow for that.

I suppose these days a guy playing with his trains isn't exactly "cool"...but I kind of enjoy it. I need to build some more buildings and do the landscaping....so it is something that occupies my time (and money).

My dad always loved his until it was in a box in the basement when it flooded and ruined his old trains. It's something he said he'd like to get into again. Any ideas on a good starter setup that could get the ball rolling for him again? He's retired and I'm sure he'd get a kick out of having his trains again.

My best guess would be to go to the Hobby Store downtown in St. Marys. That is where I get most of my stuff-and I am sure they have some good sets for sale.
