"Now, I'm not crying about having to hit into the wind at my high school ballpark, but I sure would have loved hitting at MC 15 times every spring."

And I would have loved to pitch in your ballpark.

That is the BEST reply post I have ever seen on RC, by far! You are so true and trump my comment! lol

I'm not exactly sure how all of the fields are set up now, it's been alot of years since I have been to most of the following ballparks. But, these are the ones I can remember. Now, take into consideration I hit Righty, as do most high school players.

Kalida- LF is dead west into wind
Ottoville- their old high school field faces the entire west into the wind
Conti- their old field faced west into wind
I believe the other PCL schools fields faced east, with the wind

Ayersville- faces due west into wind
Holgate- faced the west wind (but didnt they get a new field with their new school?)
Wayne Trace- faced the west ino the wind (unless they have gotten a new field lately)
Crestview- ugghhh. Wind always blows in 30mph there!
St Johns- park field faces west into wind
Perry- ugghhhhh. another Crestview!
Patrick Henry- faces the west wind

These are just a small pool of the fields in NW Ohio, but they are the ones I played on the most.

While reading your post with great interest - I took it upon myself to add to the records for PCL championships. These are taken out of Dan Kern's outstanding book on Putnam County Baseball. It does stop after the 2007 season- It looks to me like several schools can boast of great PCL success & tradition also.

You chose 35 years so I started from that season -
Continental- has won 1 PCL title
Columbus Grove has won 3 PCL titles
Fort Jennings has won 2 PCL titles
Leipsic has won 10 PCL titles
Kalida has won 11 PCL titles
Miller City has won 12 PCL titles
Pandora Gilboa has won 1 PCL title
Ottoville has won 5 PCL titles

I also found this very interesting:
In the last 37 years the PCL has had 30 years of at least 1 team in the sweet 16 regional OHSAA tournament with : Fort Jennings -1,Leipsic-1,Kalida-2,Miller City-4- all sending teams to state tournament-(also Vaughnsville sent 1 team in 1942.-but not in the totals as did OG in 1979)
Here is what Coach Kern's book has :
Continental- 0 times
Columbus Grove - 2 times - '76 & "82
Fort Jennings- 5 times - "75,"82,"84,"94,"98
Leipsic- 6 times - "76,"78,"84,"96,"01,"03
Kalida- 5 times - "95,"04,"05,"06,"07
Miller City- 12 times-'"77,"79,"81,"'83,"84,"85,"88,"89,"91,"92,"93,"02
Pandora Gilboa- 0 times
Ottoville- 1 time- "77

Also, 5 years of the 30 the PCL had 2 teams in the sweet sixteen. Clearly the MAC has more teams and titles at state- I would like to have a way to compare other small school leagues with the PCL and see how they would match up.

I believe Continental made it to Regionals in 1972. I will have to double check but I though that they had a banner in the gym stating that.

Continental's new field has right field facing to the east so lefty's have fun and left field going to the north for righty's. The old field did suck most days as that was back in my time. Probably cost me 1-2 hr's over the years, but that is all I could get to the fence!! biggrin.gif

I'm showing my age here, but didnt they have a player back in the late 80s or early 90s that hit like 15 HRs and had approx 70 RBIs? Can someone verify that he did NOT win PCL POY that year? I cant remember for sure, but it seems that my memory is telling me a pitcher from another school got the award. Help with this.

I looked this up in Dan Kern's stat book for Putnam County Baseball.

I am not sure if this is the instance you were talking about but the stats read.

IN 1991.....

Matt Michel from Miller City hit .489 with 13 Home runs, 68 RBI's, 11 doubles, 3 triples.

Player of the Year in the PCL was Brian Klausing from Kalida as Kalida won the PCL that year.

What were Klausing's stats like?

13 bombs is a ton in one spring, and that's not a stat that is easily embellished. Where did he go to play in college?

According to Kalida Schools website under records : good site-I've looked at it before

Brian Klausing - 1991
- 1 No Hitter vs LCC
- Has 3 of the top 12 school record listed strikeouts in in his career games of 19 ,18,16
- 102 Strikeouts in 1991
- 0.89 E.R.A
- 8-0 Record
-They did win the PCL that year @ 7-0
No Hitting stats found for him- I think Brian played college baseball not sure of where however

Matt Michel's offensive stats are/were freakishly impressive! As the voting went, seems that Klausing's pitching stats were more impressive to the voters. To have two players in the same conference put up those types of numbers (in two separate categories) is amazing! And, can you imagine how tough it must have been to vote on the POY? The voting must have come down to the head to head game match-up??? It would be neat to find out what Michel's numbers were against Klausing head to head that year/game! That must have been the deal "sealer"???

Hard to argue the against the stats at Miller City through the years when they had the success listed in the aforementioned reply. whistling.gif

But to address the topic of the thread, I like Miller City's chances to win the PCL with the amount of pitching back and the fact that they made it to the ACME district finals.

nobody has ever messed with the stats in miller city. rusty lammers earned every point of a .567 average last year. it came to the point at the end of the season where everyone would look at each other in complete disbelief if lammers ever made an out. the kid is unbelievable

well this sucks...jared niese is now questionable for the upcoming baseball season. he did something to his knee against ottawa hills in the last basketball game, and now doesnt even know if he will be able to play his senior year. thats just too bad. hopefully things go well jared...

i think if the Hovest kid from grove played for MC it would be a tie between him and Lammers....but since he don't i'm sure it will go to Lammers because he has alot more help around him then Hovest does

What kind of help does Lammers have? Their team offense has been abysmal. Lammers has shown to be the best pitcher in the league.

yeah i think he is the best pitcher in the league no question about it but it's about the best player in the league.....whats Lammers battin this year how many RBIs.......i think as far as offense both teams are the same but MC has a much better D.........does MC play everyone in the PCL twice i don't think Grove does but i could be wrong......if so that gives him more exposure to the PCL......... i'm just sayin it's hard to tell it would be easier if they were on the same team

Playing every team in the PCL twice gives you better competition as well. I do not know stats but I do know that he was getting walked a lot early on.

and yes he is still getting walked. its hard to get into a flow or to even have good numbers when you get walked at least once or twice a game. i remember the PH game he litterly saw 16 pitches in his four at-bats or something crazy like that. and yes he got walked all four times. lammers will get the POY again and if he doesnt...wow
