I know in the past few years you could account for all of the Bath baseball players either playing Legion or ACME. That was the template for my position. Maybe Topflight is saying that the kids from the surrounding schools are playing travel ball, therefore weakening the competition during the summer. Maybe someone from one of the other WBL schools could let us know what Pct. of your kids play ACME and Legion

So we get back to my original premise; If Shawnee and Defiance play their kids in ACME and Legion, and we beat them in ACME and our kids do as good or better than theirs in Legion, then why do we win in the summer and lose in the spring?

I dont think Bath has played Defiance in ACME in a while, other than the state tournament. For your answer to why we do we not win in the spring here is an example. lets say Defiance has every one on their spring team play ACME except for Kime and bath has everyone and bath beats Defiance. Well come spring time Kime is back on the team and beats bath. in the WBL one dominant player on a team, usually pitcher, can be a big impact on the turnout of a game. Although baseball is and always will be a team sport, Having one strong pitcher is vital in hte WBL and haVing 2 is special. This is why summer ball should not really reflect a spring team.

That's the answer I was looking for. I understand the impact travel ball could have on your ACME teams, I just didnt know how common it was for kids to play travel ball instead of ACME. Does Bath, Shawnee, or Elida have kids playing travel instead of ACME?

If my kid was offered the option of playing on a top travel then I would pick that - as it would help him out tremendously in the spring. But it also hinders a team concept when one player "leaves" the team to pursue their own individual needs. It's a double edged sword.

So true. There is also a resentment from those not playing travel ball. The kid is told that he is not a team player and that he only thinks of himself. I would say that if travel ball is ok for Coach Held, it would be hard to argue with a guy that has had his success.

I guess it depends on what the player is looking for. Playing upper level travel baseball is going to go much further in the development of a player than playing Acme....no comparision. If a kid wants to play baseball after HS, he should do whatever he can to make that a priority. I can't imagine a varsity coach not wanting his kids to play at the highest level possible in the summer, it's got to make his varsity team stronger.
