Dear Buckeye Fans, I live in So. Calif. (unfotunately, weather is nice). What will happen in the USC (Best College Football Team money can buy) vs. OSU in 3 weeks? I feel USC is ripe for a big upset by the Buckeyes. This could be their bowl game for the whole year. The only problem is USC is 3-4 deep at every position. I hate USC like, Michigan, but the Bucks have to be ready to play & hard. I pick the Bucks 30-27. What do the Bucks Fans think? This is not Toledo, Miami, OU or Northwestern, this is a BIG GAME.

tOSU-34
USC-10

tOSU is a MUCH better team this year than last year, while USC still is getting their feet wet amongst QB inexperience and controversy. 2009 tOSU has a GREAT opportunity at that "National championship" thing they supposedly have in CFB, but 2010 should be even better.

I don't see USC to be the problem, and personally........I don't think PSU will be all that great either. My concern comes from one of those other games like Iowa or Wisconsin. We don't need another year of devastation like 1998 again. crybaby.gif

Just to elaborate:

I'm really sick of how the media makes up BS about tOSU not being able to to handle the SEC and "great" teams...........please..... rolleyes.gif

The problem for tOSU is quite honestly a REALLY simple one. Against Florida, LSU, and USC, tOSU sat back in zone >90% of the time. It might be one of the most idiotic things Heacock has ever done. Against talented teams, it gives them ample opportunity to take advantage of zones, they know they can very easily clear out and vacate for back out in the backfield or 3WR sets. Honestly, it's just pitch and catch and I have NO CLUE why he decided to sit back in zone >90% of the time. Let's not forget to mention how PREDICTABLE that makes your defense.

Now let's look at the flipside. Against Texas, tOSU gave up quite a few yards, but they bent and didn't break. They pretty much made Texas's explosive offense stagnant and frustrated the whole night. Why is that? Because they DIDN'T sit in zone the whole game. In fact, the majority of the time they sat in man coverage or other coverage sets OTHER than zone. If tOSU does this against USC, the results will DEFINITELY be much better than the other year's failures. Quite frankly, common sense would say it would have to be.

Offensively, last year tOSU had no QB. Boeckman was a terrible QB for tOSU and Pryor was a new player that wasn't much better AT THAT TIME. Chris Wells was also out. Roles are somewhat reversed this year. Controversy at USC for QB and either one will be new to the game. Pryor looked OUTSTANDING in the spring game.....yes it's a spring game........but it's not about the stats.......it's about the mannerisms and how he looks. Let's not forget that was in late APRIL. You could clearly tell he was already much more composed in the pocket, much more fluent in his progression, and while his passing mechanics are far from beautiful, the balls he threw was gorgeous throws. The one he threw to Small for TD was one of the best passes I have EVER seen. I will admit Wells is a HUGE loss.......it hurts.......however I feel it lowers our dependency on the "Tressel run" all the time. You can't deny the talent we have at WR. This WR will hit the field and already be better than the 08 WR core. Devier Posey, Taurian Washington, Ray Small, Dane Sanzenbacher, Lamaar Thomas, Duron Carter, etc, etc. are all LOADED with talent. You can't deny that talent on the field and with Pryor's improved passing, it proves to be a deadly combination. Don't forget Saine and Herron can also catch the ball out of the backfield AND Jamaal Berry may be able to work his way into the mix. Hyde and Martin are HUGE RBs and can carry the power running game. O-line?........young, but improved in my opinion. They will be the biggest question mark, but I think they will be at worst a solid group.

not sure about MUCH better, they lost great players on defense but i think most of their D-line is back which is most important....but the biggest factor will be USC QB (whoever it will be) dealing with OSU noise and playing such a good team this early in the season, i look for OSU to have a big game, 31-3

I am also a huge Ohio State fan, but If I was to put money on this game it would be on USC. To fast for the Bucks. Last year we could have had Bennie, Archie and George in the backfield and it would not have made a differance. I really hope the Bucks pull it off but the past has showed me that we can't get excited for the big games. Again, go Bucks atleast make it respectable.

When was the last time that NFL combine numbers put points on the board for a team??? If you do not beleive that OSU has been a much slower team in the BCS games and againt USC last year then you are in denial. The 40 times are the most overated numbers in football. USC attacks the football and they do it damn quick, if they have a slow 40 time at the combine all the coaches need to do is watch game film and see them on the field where it counts. Don't give me this crap, "oh OSU players run faster 40 times" THen why was the score the way it has been in the past against other powerhouse teams?

Ohio State 24
USC 14

I just don't see a defense who lost pretty much EVERYTHING(outside of Mays) and an offense breaking in a brand new QB winning a game in the Shoe in week 2. If the 2 teams meet again in the Rose Bowl, it could be a completely different story, but early on I see OSU being the better team.

I already explained this earlier. tOSU sat in zone well over 90% of the time against those teams. You are drinking the same Kool-Aid the media wants you to believe............that tOSU is slower. This statement is TOTALLY erroneous and FACTS from combine numbers in 40yd dash, shuttle, and cone times support my claims. What supports yours?.......the media? If you are taking the claim of USC attacking the football as your definition of "speed", then you need to take the equivalent of tOSU or any other team attacking like USC does. Not everybody blitzes the same or as often as all other teams. Food for thought.

Here is some food for thought for you and your "extreme knowledge of coaching" What is OSU record in the big games in the past five years. Here is another reason they beat OSU and the "Zone" to beat a zone you either get in the gaps and then OUTRUN them. You are just another "Jerry Springer OSU fan that cannot get it throught you head that OSU in not the best team on the field all the time. IM pretty sure that the coaching staff for OSU can put together a better game plan than you can. Why do you think that they ran a zone against those teams? REASON= they could not keep up with them in man to man coverage!!!!
Listen Mel Kiper, the only thing that the 40 and shuttle times prove is they can run around cones and in a straight line. So please tell me one more time that OSU is a quick and has the speed that USC had last year. I need to show this to other people so we can get a good laugh.

quit being homers people, usc may have lost many good players but they have the best recuits year in and year out...usc wins by 10 points because they are just faster and more tallented than the buckeyes.

What's their record have to do with speed?.........I love your "logic" in how that supposedly translates to their record. I guess every sprinter should join the football team and they will be a star. rolleyes.gif I think you are the bandwagon tOSU fan. You follow the media instead of breaking down game film after the games. For what it's worth, I predicted tOSU was going to get CRUSHED last year against USC. Why?

Zone defense
Boeckman at QB...also controversy amongst QB(see Texas '05)
Wells being out

Now if Heacock wants to go back to zone this year against USC, then I surely won't be so confident in picking tOSU over USC. Why does tOSU sit in zone all the time?.............because they have sat in a soft zone for the majority of the time in almost all their games ever since Heacock arrived. You remember that Mark Dantonio guy at MSU?..........the one that used to be the tOSU Def Coord.......he didn't sit in soft zone ALL the time like Heacock loves to do. Don't believe me? Hit the play button on your DVR and look for yourself. tOSU couldn't keep up with USC in man to man?..........really?..........the thorpe/all american Jenkins, Chekwa(tOSU track team), and the other DBs couldn't keep up with them in man to man?..........really?......really?........I mean are you kidding? I don't think the 40 times and all that garbage are the end all of how great a player is. The fact of the matter is that you make the absurd claim that these teams are "faster" than tOSU based off of media garbage, while I can factually disprove those claims with actual data.

Kiper, you and this zone defence kill me, NO I am not kidding.....really!....Really!.....REALLY!!!! It sounds like you need to be out protesting the media and holding VIVA REVOLUTION flags over your feelings for the media. LIsten Kiper, they write your paychecks, don't piss them off or down comes your big board on ESPN.
Listen Kiper, While you sit there and playback all the game film in you non life that you must have. Why has OSU got there ass handed to them against other good teams. I bet you and your Brutus Tattoo on you arm when you watch the USC game from last year you will see atleast three times when the receivers from USC got behind the OSU track team. LIsten Kiper, I love the bucks, but lets face it the media is right, we are a slow confrence and a under talented confrence compared to the SEC, Big 12 and USC. You can deny it all night long but the facts lye in the records. Hey just wait Im going to go run the 40 and see if that puts points on the board for the Bucks.

Here is your data that you were going to prove me wrong with

USC vs OSU
[edit] Scoring Summary
1st Quarter

3:06 OSU Pretorius 29 yard field goal 3-0 OSU
0:33 USC Havili 35 yard pass from Sanchez (Buehler kick) 7-3 USC
2nd Quarter

11:00 USC Ayles 1 yard pass from Sanchez (Buehler kick) 14-3 USC
2:49 USC Maualuga 48 yard interception return (Buehler kick) 21-3 USC
3rd Quarter

6:02 USC Williams 24 yard pass from Sanchez (Buehler kick) 28-3 USC
1:33 USC Williams 17 yard pass from Sanchez (Buehler kick) 35-3 USC

Dude, Kiper no other stats are needed.

Doesn't ND and Tenn usually get pretty solid recruiting classes?..............how has that panned out for them?

Recruiting ranks are BS..........just as much BS as the BCS. Somebody's opinion is not greater than the product on the field as a team.

I might give it some thought if Heacock goes back to zone all the time vs. USC. Not that it will matter because he will gone after this year if that's the case.
