Thought I'd start a thread about our dear Lady Pirates. That way the PCL thread can be PCL and not just about the Pirates.

Weather looks good this week -- 70+ tomorrow. Hope outdoor practice goes well ! HUGE difference playing in the gym and outside.

Good Luck Lady Pirates and Coaches Eding and Striecher

We better hope that they do well this year, there is rumor that there may not be a team next season. Not enough young ladies going out. No jv team this year. There might not be very many jr high girls to come up. That will be ashame. It can happen, vb for next season might be done, no jv team and no coach at this time. I believe the school needs to remove their policy of one sport per semister.

No jv team does not really worry me. Not a whole lot of schools of our size have enough for jv -- you'd need close to 30 girls to have both programs strong. There are summer programs to hone their skills.

I think the Pirates will be fine.

Now volleyball is a different story. You only need a solid 15 players. There is no real summer league to teach so vball could be in trouble. Plus most parents don't really "get into it" - they never played. No Dads played for sure. Virtually everyone has played soft or baseball and understand most of the idea of the game.

Pirateblue, there is 16 or 17 girls this year. 10 are seniors. I believe that the jr high program has 3 maybe 4 that will come up to play next year.

You are absolutely right Trueblue. After this group of seniors graduate there is not much moving in. It is not just at thr Jr.High level but throughout. If you just look at the current Jrs. playing, there are only two. In the whole Jr. class there are only the same five girls that play sports(soccer,b-ball,softball). I believe some of the Jr.high girls will probably run track next year, this is what I heard through the grapevine. I hope you're not right about next year,I know my daughters really enjoy playing softball. Until then "Good Luck Lady Pirates,Have Fun and Enjoy the game" thumbup1.gif thumbup1.gif

WOW -- I did not realize there were that many seniors -- I knew there were many, but not THAT many. I still think they will be fine -- especially if they have another good season.

Just read in Crescent News V-ball is done at CHS. Reasoning behind it,lack of numbers and economy. So what does this mean for softball for next season?????Just need to make the best of this season and enjoy watching the girls play.

I think a positive attitude by all would help. We WILL have a team. Not dwell on it who know what happens next year. Think THIS year!

You're Right Blue,Sorry.....This should be a very fun and exciting year!!Lots of experienced girls mixed in with some younger talent. Will be fun to watch them play. The Pirates have a pretty deep pitching lineup, with Jess being the ace, Kyleigh gained some experience last season after Jess's injury,Cam and Whit are coming right along. I think they have some very good bats again this year also. With the bench as deep as it is, the coaches have so many options this year. Again will be fun and exciting to watch!!! I am hoping the co-champs will make them be more determined. To stay on top of their game and strive to b PCL CHAMPS...I see alot of talent that can change positions so more options for the coaches, Quite a few girl have excellent arm strength for the field. Jess looks as strong as ever. Kyleigh will be there if needed, now there are two other girls throwng. They're sophomores.

Green24, Our #1 pitcher took a line drive to the forehead 4 days before the Ottoville game and the coaches were not sure if she was going to be able to play. When they put her in, we were already down to far to come completely back. If I remember right, we were down by 7 and only lost by 2, but it was still a loss. When she got taken out of play, it affected all our players. I don't think big heads had alot to do with it. (except the pitcher's forehead..Ha Ha)

At their scrimmage tonight , they played in 2 inning sets of outs. The coachs removed starters placed players in different positions The infield really didn't seem as if anybody had moved. Jess look good for first competition type practice. thumbup1.gif
