I'd go with Pat EVERY time. Class act. CONTROLLED Discipline something Knight always lacked. Proven winner and a TEACHER.

However, if I was an AD and had to pick one to coach one game for a championship, it would be Knight. Nothing against Summit, she's a great coach. But she's never coached men, and, frankly, I'm not sure how a group of guys would react to a woman coaching them. So really nothing against Summit or her coaching, it's just that college males wouldn't take her seriously.
Other than those 2, other great choices are Phog Allen, Adolph Rupp, John Wooden, Coach K, Dean Smith, and my personal choice for coach who taught kids the most about life, the late Kay Yow.

I disagree with a lot of your statements here. Knight has never harmed anyone. There was the chin slap and the "choke/grab", but nobody really ever got hurt. Those were merely a way to get the kids attention. A way to let them know that they are not more impotant than the team. and it will be Knight's way or the highway.
Secondly how can you say you would rather have Knight for a one game situation when Summit has 8 National Championships to Knight's 3.
Thirdly, i think college males would listen to Summit, she's demanding and she holds players accountable. i think she could get the most out of either men or woman. If they wanted to win, they'd pay attention to her.
I would gladly let my kid play for either one.

She didn't say she was lucky, fortunate, but BLESSED. She is very humble and knows it took a lot of people to make this happen.
Men or women. Pat Summitt hands down.
Check out her books: Reach for the Summitt or Raise the Roof. Both GREAT reads for any age, m or f, athlete or not.

I've got nothing against Knight and I think he got a bad rap at IU. But the fact is, when a coach is throwing a chair across the floor, or choking a player, the chance of injury is there. I have no problem with the chin slap, because he only did it when the player wasn't paying attention. He just lost his temper way too easily, and while no one ever got hurt, I consider that more luck than anything.
I still think that college aged males wouldn't listen to a woman. Yes, she's demanding, and yes she's a great coach. Just there just seems to be an overall lack of respect, especially among 18-21 year olds these days. I would rather have the hard nose coach who isn't afraid to get in their face for one game. Plus, nothing against Summit or Tennessee, because the 8 titles is a great accomplishment, but the overall quality of play in the women's game isn't all that great. You go UT and UCONN every year, then you have about 5 or 6 teams in any year that can win a title. Other than that, there are a lot of teams that just aren't very good.
But I do agree, I'd gladly have my kid play for either one.

And Summitt over-rated?!?!?!?!? AND not really having to coach with good players?!?!?!?! You're goofy.
ESPN had a ranking of the top 15 coaches of all time. John Wooden was #1, Pat #2 -- those two are so far ahead of ANYone, especially Knight. As I said before, Pat has CONTROLLED discipline, NO ego, and a fantastic teacher. When it comes to a class act, NO comparison -- Summitt.

nothing against Pat Summit she obviously knows her *******,
but its relatively easy to see why she hasnt been hyped.
womens basketball, plain and simple, isnt as big of a cash cow as mens is. thats the easiest cut and dry way of putting it.
now as far as the best basketball coach, ill take john wooden any day over both knight and summit.
what he did at UCLA will never, ever be duplicated.

Wooden won't ever be topped, although there have been reports that have come out showing that there may have been quite a bit of boosters helping the program by getting those top players.

I wouldn't say basketball is a man's sport. Sure, men are better at it, but men are better at everything.
