Here is my take on the WBL this year.
Rememebr it all is about points giving and taking in the Duals and Torunament. In the Dual it will depend on who has the pinners. In the tournament it will come down to the ones that have the kids that can get 3/4 place points.
With all that said the ultimate goal needs to be making State. I'd rather see a kid blow the league/sectional and make state.
Bath - Beemer, Hefner, Mcginnest should be locks for 1st/2nd finishers. Incoming Freshman could be a darkhorse finisher. Top nationally ranked Fresh. After that not sure if they will have many top finishers getting points. That could be a big problem. Need help from Chandler and Harmon for points. This team has a possibility of 3 kids making State. Duals are questionable.
Coaching is great. Great JH feeder system. Heard many great things of Chandler.
Celina - Dues is the lone leader in winning in title. Now here is where it gets good. This is a team that is being overlooked. They have many kids that will be fighting for placement points. I can see this team in a battle of top 2/3 place finishers. I might be under estimating Doner. They could have one kid making State.
Duals are favored here with solid line up.
Defiance - Miller and Gonzalez are the leaders here for Champs. Gonzalez out for awhile could hurt. They have Wagonhouser and Hurst that may fight a little for the top but will get at least 2/3rd place points. 1 to 2 possibley State Qualifiers.
Young up and coming Coaching is a plus here. Met him a couple times and will only improve. Duals are questionable.
Elida - Kinda scared to say anything here...lol. Ok here goes, Team is Senior lead with Brunk, Troyer, Green and Wittkamp all returning with 1/2 place credentials. Follow that with Leis and Painter with 3/4 place. Incoming Fresh Green could make some noise for placement points along with the 112. Other weights are questionable on points. Duals are yet to be proven. Possible 3/4 State Qualifiers.
Coaching is good. Diglia is very passionate about the sport and Bowers is just Bowers.
Kenton - This is not basketball or Football.
O.G.- This is not Basketball or Football. Watch out for Klausing.
Shawnee - ok, here we go. Lead by Washam if at 152 is there only possible Champ (maybe 103??). After this they don't have to many returning that bring placement points. They are young. Alot lost from last year. Elida will be in this boat next year. A couple surprises could be the Croft boys, maybe Bowdle and Downard, unless he is out as Irons is. They have one returning WBL placer.
Coaching has great background in Wrestling and credentials. Unproven as Coach but seems to have the tools to make it happen. Will sure bring energy into the program. Duals may be low with many inexperienced kids.
St.Marys - Lauth and Neal are leaders here. Lauth depending on Weight. Neal should have a break out season. Big drop off after these two. Rebuilding time now. Program is on the rebound with the starting of the youth program. Not many point scorers after these two.
Coaching is in need of overhaul. Nothing bad but just a change could shoot some adrenaline for the program. Look at Bath.
Van Wert - Leading the crew is Massillo,he should be a Champ. He was very good as a freshman. Should do much more this year. Noggle and Custer could provide some placement points as well. Many placement points can be earned with their squad at 2/3 place finishes. Noggle will be depending on weight. Custer if at HWT could surprise some. After these not many more placing points. Duals will be good. This isa team may be overlooked after further research.
Not sure of Coaching here. I see one maybe 2 making State.
Wapak - Erb will be a 4 time WBL Champ and 4 time State Qualifier. Beemer boys have a shot at top 2 at WBL. Now this is what seperates them. They have the most kids I think that will get placement points. Solid kids up and down the lineup. Coaching is vrey good. The big man does great and with some of the history they have along with partners they can get into the room, WOW. Duals will be strong due to solid up and down.

WBL top returning placers.
Bath - 5
Celina - 5
Defiance - 4
Elida - 6
Kenton - 3
O.G. - 2
SHawnee - 1
St.Marys - 3
Van Wert - 5 or 6 (I think)
Wapak - 4. This was with Mitch Beemer out who would of placed and Carpenter whowas a dsitrict qualifier.

Once again, Wapak leads the way and Van Wert is being way to underlooked. Celina comesequippedwith a full line up and the willingness to push.
There is no clear cut favorite. More inmy opinion can be covered once weights are known.

Washam, croft boys, schofield are capable of doing well this season. Assuming all work hard and want it. Also Mcdermitt is a promising new comer and could definitely turn some heads this year.

Josh Croft and Schofield will be in possible brutal weight classes that will hurt them getting the necessary points. 119/125/130 and possibly 135 could be 3 to 4 deep this year.
Once againit will depend on weight for much of this discussion.
Mcdermott, I didforget about thisyoungman, but the transition to High School will hurt this year. Not everyone can be Massillo or Meeks.
I in no way ment any ill will. But with what you just mentioned how can they pull off a WBL Championship?

I personally believe that if you start a topic like this as darkrider did u sould not be so biased against some schools like he has been. Oh well maybe he just likes to create arguments over high school sports and kids who play or wrestle for fun and experience to be able to lead later in life. If you r the kind of person who criticizes and tears down high school kids be my guest I know I will not partake in that at all. Please show class and respect for all of the athletes because they are just 15-18 year old kids. I guess some people just forget that fact.

"Congratulations darkrider doing ur homework on a bunch of high school kids. We basically are just wondering what drives you to speak this way about high school kids. "

I am just curious on what you are refering to? Everyone is biased to one school in some manner.
Now, also I have not said anything derogatory towards any high school kids, nothing.
I gave my assesment on what I have personally witnessed and researched. I have reread and rearead my posts, if you take my words to mean something so wrongful to the kids cause I haven't mentioned their name than I can't do anything about that. I spoke of Shawnee concerning an uproven Coach at the helm, that is true, I spoke of one stand out, Washam, as of nowthat is true. Nothing wrong or bad on what i have said.

The action on the mat will determine who is going to be the champ not on this forum. So guess all you want ,but don't degrade any of the kids. Good luck to all wrestlers and may injuries be a none factor.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure I see any kids being down graded?
Dark - You have missed some kids from a couple schools. Overall though nice asesment. I like how you used placemnet points as your analysis. Some Coaches at our scrimmage were having the same conversation concerning the WBL and NWC outlook.
The WBL will be tighter than many think. There could be a few schools going 7-2 / 6-3 keeping their hopes alive come Tournament time.
I have witnessed Coach Sanchez on the Coaching side of it all. Having some kids that belonged to Stomp and myself witnessing first hand, I believe the WBL will be lucky to have him. He might be uproven in the league as a Coach but did do very well in his club. Good Luck Nick.
The league could put over a dozen plus at State this year. It will be interesting. Weights are going to mean alot down the stretch.

D2 Rankings by Bucksman
The WBL gets some deserved love, but some kids are missed in my opinion.
112 - BJ Miller 4th Defiance
130 - Josh Beemer 11th Bath
140 - Mitch Beemer 6th Wapak
Matt Hefner 10th Bath
152 - Connor Massillo 6th Van Wert
171 - Paul Lauth 12th St. Marys
189 - Cody Wittkamp 4th Elida
215 - Logan Erb 3rd Wapak
HWT - Marcus Neal 9th St.Marys

Not sure if Hefner and Beemer will be at those weights. Most likely not. Either way they stil will be ranked respectfully.
I believe by the next updated rankings by Bucksman you will see Brunk, Washam, Green (Cody), Troyer(Shane), McGinnest, Alex Dues to name a few in there somewhere.

I was off on Bath, I ate my foot already. A little deeper than thought.
Wapak looked good and deeper than originally thought as well. That still puts them on top. Beemers and Erb looked good. They sure looked like a 1st place team.
Elida looked good as well. Didn't look like a 5th place team.
Bath looked even better when they beat Celina. Meeks and Hefner looked very good. The Hefner and Beemer match was good. They did earn that top 3 ranking.
Shawnee is young and learning. Talent in a few years as a top team right now not there but alot of good young kids. Might be a favorite next year. Where was Washam?
I only saw the first three rounds. Why does the WBL run the pools on a school night?

Trying to maximize points and also make the league mean something with this being the best that could done at this time. Bath looks really solid and Wapak looked like Wapak. Heard Washam hurt his knee and will be out for some time and Brady Croft is hurt also for shawnee. Hows the foot taste.
